  • Today, we're making a special video for patients. This is to help you better understand the procedures that you will go through at the doctor’s office, from start to finish, including the dental materials and digital impressions. This procedure can be broken down into several steps and can also be very interesting to those who are in dental school.

    Diagnosis 00:00:
The doctor needs to know if there’s enough bone for implants. To do so, you’ll have to go through an X-ray exam, which is called the Cone Beam Computed Technology (CBCT)
01:20 The CBCT gives the doctor a 3D image of the jaw, where it’s possible to examine the height and the width of the bone. It provides more information about the gingiva, the soft tissues, the nerves, tongue structure, etc.
    03:20 Information Processing
Then, this information is processed by the doctor. It is cut into three different slices - a horizontal slice, a vertical one, and a coronal one. The doctor implements additional modifications to the data, to better see the parameters he needs. This enables the doctor to choose the right types of implants and their correct sizes. After choosing the right implants, the doctor needs to find the right place to put them in and at the right angle.
    08:20 CAD/CAM
To place the implant correctly, the doctor needs to have some design of the future crowns that the patient will have. This is done through the CAD CAM technology on the computer (an in our case, the exocad program). Through this technology, the doctor gathers all the information, including the morphology and anatomy of the teeth and in the end, he’ll have the shape of the teeth he needs to place (the crowns). With this information, the doctor can decide where and how the implant should be placed. The doctor chooses a safe space to put the implants without hitting the nerve.
    12:30 Surgical Guide
Next, the doctor makes a surgical guide that will guide the doctor through the implantation process. It will guide the drilling and the placing of the implant. Later on, these guides will be removed.
    13:50 Finishing Touches
The last part involves the implant. The doctor makes an impression and sends it to a technician who designs the crown. Then, the doctor takes an abutment that serves as a connector between the implant and the crown. The abutment is then fitted on the implant, and on top of it, the crown. That’s it.
