I always was sad that bof didn't continue on that ending. I saved Ryu's father and didn't know there was any other ending when I was a kid. My friend told me about the alt ending and I played it again and was overwhelmed. It was like a complete game and I always felt that III should have had II's Ryu wake up in the future to fight Death Evan again or at least move aside for the new generation to.
When talking the 3 endings, I actually prefer to call them "bad ending", "sad ending", and "happy ending". Most people associate the Good Ending as the "best" ending, which I don't think is true. I think the Sad Ending provides the best conclusion to the game, while feeling right when it comes to the story/lore of the game. It packs an emotional gut punch that I can still reminisce about over 25 years later.
It fits with the game having an overall theme of sacrifice. Valerie sacrifices her happiness to protect her family, Garen is ready to die if it means stopping the church of Eva, Ray dies to unlock Ryu's final dragon form, and throughout the entire game a lot of other characters such as Rand's mother, Nina's sister, Tiger the rebel leader and many more either lay down their own life or go down fighting for the sake of the world. It only feels fitting that Ryu puts an end to the story by committing the ultimate sacrifice himself.
...I can never choose between Katt and Nina, but I won't lie, the Nina one always hurt my heart. I'm having a hard time looking at her sad face. Losing her sister, and now, loosing Ryu.
Well I got to see the three endings. The bad one, the alternative/sad one, and the good/best one. The bad one really give you the bad omen, like dang it. Among the sad and good one, I prefer the good one. While the sad one feels so bittersweet (like REALLY bittersweet I felt so sad for Katt and Nina for dragon's sake) but seems to follow the story/lore of the games, the good one actually shows the best possible way of things turning out with Ryu and all his friends together after all. Normally in RPGs there's always that feeling of accomplishment but with the ultimate sacrifice at the end from part of one of the main protagonists that makes it so bittersweet. Usually is weird to see an RPG where everything goes fine and when you do, you actually you feel happy and content with yourself beyong finishing the game, because you feel that everyone you've met can finally rest, that there's less to worry about.
So did him and his sister ever reunite considering she ran off, I know in the best ending he was seen in that tree overlooking the town and forest but do they ever see each other and remember they are siblings.
