Finally someone who can play cymbals demoing cymbals. You'd think it would be more common but apparently not. You made all of those cymbals sound good. Each one. That sound lab prototype was beautiful. Thanks for this.
1."The Quiet Set": Playing alone - 0:14 With a backing track - 0:54 2."The Modern Ks": Playing alone - 3:15 With a backing Track - 4:07 3."The Old Ks": Playing alone - 6:30 With a backing track - 7:13 4."The Motian Set": Playing alone - 9:32 With a backing Track - 10:20 5."The Dark Set": Plating alone - 12:40 With a backing track - 13:21
The modern Ks were my personal favorite, I really dig the renaissance 22 ride, and that prototype has a great sort of trashy vibe - not to mention that I am a fan of dry dirty hats. The Hollow Block Stamp 20 ride on the Motian set was really nice as well. Great playing and feel as well.
Most drummers presenting cymbals on TH-cam crash them, keep hitting the bell, and you never hear what they sound like for just riding them. this is the best presentation that I've seen. These other drummers need to watch this.
Quiet set sounds great. Hard to find those hats though. I have the 22” K Con REN on the right. A 20” K Con medium thin low on the left. And 14” A Avedis hi hats. I love it. I sometimes use a 20” light flat ride on the left.
Enjoyed the playing and the presentation. Great drummer w/ great time and chops. And these cymbal sets all sound good and provide a tonal palette from wet to dry. What everyone tunes in for is the vintage, unobtanium stuff. The third set - old k's with johan hats. Most of the rest of the stuff is in a store somewhere. But everybody's chasing THAT tone. You have two KILLER vintage cymbals but they are totally different. The 18 OS is darkly bright and crisp without a lot of wash, and the 22 NS with the rivets is holy grail jazz ride sound with good medium bright attack and just a hint of trash followed by the rivet wash reverb. They are both amazing, but I'm not sure the 18 complements the 22 like it would some other rides in your collection. Don't get me wrong, the 18 might be the best, most valuable cymbal in your collection. It probably is. Your Zildjian 20 hollow block stamp from set 4 and your 18 OS from set 3 would be interesting to swap between sets and compare. Some amazing cymbals throughout. Congrats mate
Beautiful playing 😊. I have the 20” left side ride such a great cymbal and compliments the other. Just about to take delivery of a 22” K Constantinople Renaissance
Mozambique I heard Steve Gadd do it at a Zildjian Day clinic in Chicago in the eighties. can sound really good mixed into a rock improv section playing in and out of two and four on snare
Would you recommend the K Dark medium as a good bebop ride? I like all of them but I’m favoring that one in particular, in this instance especially, scenarios can change so I’m wondering if it’ll fit all the scenarios
I use it also for jazz...it's a great all-around cymbal. You will see it fits perfectly everywhere. It's not too dark and not too bright. Heavier than a Constantinople but it's also so controllable that it will not overpower anyone.

I hate the ones where they are like “oh I’m gonna play the bell more than anything” like dude I hate the bell
You’re 100 percent right. All these other presenters crash, bell, and at the end, you still don’t know what it sounds like with stick definition.

@@nram3930 That prototype actually sounds a lot like Bill Stewart's dry complex rides, love it
this is insanely good ....the concept, your playing. thank you mate👍
Agree the comparison is very nicely done. The 20 K con light is my favourite.
So cool to see/hear the Johan Hats paired with the old K setup. I have one of his light rides as my LSR.

Really helpful comparison, and nice drumming! 🥁 Hard to pick my favorite, but I think the Quiet Set paired together really well.
Nice sets, good examples...thank you. ❤
Really nice demo. Loves the pairing you’ve done. Great work. Thanks !
Quiet set sounds great.
Hard to find those hats though.

thank you, one of the best video I have seen on cymbals... very Nice research …the sound of the K ns is magnificent !
Beautiful playing 😊. I have the 20” left side ride such a great cymbal and compliments the other. Just about to take delivery of a 22” K Constantinople Renaissance
Great video, lovely playing too, thanks for that
Thx for expressing 'articulation'.
Don.t ever given up you.re great as a univdrummer
Dude awesome playing!!!
The 18" old Stamp sounds AMAZING!
Thanks for this important video
great playing!
I have a 20" light cons, love the buttery sound. I have also a 19" sabian hh crash that have a similar but clearer tone compare to the cons.
Just received a K Ride.. and a K Custom Left Side Ride. Both sound great.
Great idea ,great playing and great cymbals . Too bad I can't hear them very well because of the music volume
Nice touch!
Just perfect 👏 Thanks for this. ;)
Super, where can I get these backing tracks?
The k Constantinople Ride cymbal's sound is stunning
The 1° end 4° sets... ... wonderfol ...
Please tell me what that Latin groove is

That 22’ K Con Renaissance is it. ❤️
Great 👌 thank youuu
My favourit set was the old Ks and the new Ks
Wonderful...thanks!
Oh, that old 22" K!
Which snare is this?
What type of drums sticks do you have
Vater BeBop 550 hickory

I love that K con 22" Renny ride. just add some 14" new beat hi hat
smoooooooooooooooooooooth
Beautiful video... what Vater sticks are you using?
BeBop 550s
That was awesome! May I ask what what is the snare here?
That´s a 14x6,5 Ludwig Hammered Bronze
Nice playing. What is the tune?
Quiet set
The 22" K Ns is just perfect. How heavy is it?
Do you want to sell it?
I sold my 22" Sound Creation Dark Ride in the early 90s. What an idiot
The volume of the music overpowered the sound of the cymbals. It was hard for me to compare them.
what type of drum set is that? love the setup
waiting for your upload!!
I'm not usually a fan of A's, but that hollow block is sweet.
The first group sounded the best, at least for those songs.
Motian, like in Paul Motian?
Did you ever find out what motian means?
@@daviewavie112 yep, paul motian
I like the Modern Ks the best.
god damn k con light is so buttery i will nibble my fingers off
Why does that 20k custom sounds like it sizzles, is it just me
Might be because the k custom left side ride comes with 3 factory installed rivets ;)
Does Zildjian still make cymbals with rivets?
@@khm5369 - What are the sizes of those 4 drums? (Heads & shell depth). And, what sticks are those? Thanks!
Awesome video! What's the weight on the 20" hollow block? Is it for sale?
did you know there is no cymbal emoji available, while there IS a trumpet emoji 🎺
Which is bullshit
did you know cymbals are called 'bekkens' in Dutch 🇳🇱
Uhh I,ve always preferred A,s for even Jazz. The K types are very washy but A,s are shimmer.
