    What a great video, very useful for a guitar player learning steel. So many teachers talk for 10 minutes before showing anything. This is all pickin', right to the point, thanks Eddie!!

    Hello subscribers, thank you for watching Western Swing RULES!!!
    Mrswimmyboy, Eddie just emailed me and here is what he said for the A6 tuning.
    "It's just a standard A6,top to bottom, E,C#,A,F#,E,C#,A,F#."
    I hope that helps. Please, all of you, send me your email addresses so I can communicate better with you. There's a whole lot more to come.
    Robert

      +Robert Huston --Hi Robert, Thanks for the info on the tuning [and for posting these videos]. The lessons with Eddie are exceptional. I have a 6 string lap steel and need to leave off 2 strings. Would it be best to use just the top 6 or the middle 6? Much appreciated.

      mrswimmyboy,
      Here is the answer to your question regarding which strings to leave off.
      From Eddie Rivers;
      Hi Robert.On a 6 string I use the top 6,E,C#,A,F# E,C#. That's what I used on about half of the Willie and the Wheel album,on an old 6 string Rickenbacker.
      I hope that helps. Robert

    Thanks so much for this series. I don't think Eddie has any idea how many huge fans he has but there are tons of them...like ME!

    Holy Moly - always loved me some Eddie Rivers - what a player, and what a gentleman, and a generous one at that. Any NP steel players who don't know yet need to recognize! Thanks so much to Western Swing Rules for this and the other Eddie Rivers lick of the week. And thanks even more to Mr. Rivers for being so great and such a great inspiration and such a generous fellow!

    In reality. The best pedal steel demo I’ve found. Because most of us here already understand the guitar to some level. Way too much explaining in most demos. Great.

    How is Eddie tuned here? We know its A6 and the 3rd and 7th strings are roots.
    So, is it [low to high] E C# A F# E C# A F#? Can anyone confirm?

    • @TonyfromBham
      @TonyfromBham 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mrswimmyboy That is correct.

    • @mrswimmyboy
      @mrswimmyboy 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm confused. You said the E is the lowest string, [low to high= E C# A F# E C# A F#] but in the next post below, Robert Huston says E is the highest string: "It's just a standard A6, top to bottom, E,C#,A,F#,E,C#,A,F#." Which is it?
      I'm guessing E is the highest [pitched] string. Its a closer voicing.

    • @TonyfromBham
      @TonyfromBham 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      mrswimmyboy No, I misread your original post. It's F#, A, C#. E, F# A, C#, E (low to high). That's what I use, and I'm certain that's what Mr. Rivers is using in this video. I should have read your post more closely. 'Sorry.

    • @mrswimmyboy
      @mrswimmyboy 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for clarifying Tony. I have a 23.5" scale Recording King lap steel and want to buy an A6 [ C# E F# A C# E ] set of strings for it. Where can I get the best set?

    • @TonyfromBham
      @TonyfromBham 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mrswimmyboy I use the Herb Remington Signature A6 set from a company called Jagwire. If you cannot find them, message me, and I'll send you a link to the site I use. I love those strings.

    What tuning ?

    • @roberthuston331
      @roberthuston331  ปีที่แล้ว

      Eddie is using a straight A6 tuning. He comments on this in Western Swing RULES #6. You might take a look at that one and be sure and let all your musician friends know about our series. Thanks for watching. I hope that answers your question.

    He says 3rd string and 7th string are root note
    What are names of strings - top to bottom

    I watch your videos and they are very informative. But, you never say what tuning you are using. So, It causes frustration trying to learn what you are doing,.

  • @MrWeedpatch

    Question, on my double eight I have the e13 and c6 necks but you use these a6 which I kinda like. What neck would change on the my 8?

      I'm trying to get an answer from Eddie. RH

    • @roberthuston331
      @roberthuston331  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Eddie responded to your question. Here is his explanation;
      "IT'S REALLY A MATTER OF PERSONAL TASTE. IF IT WERE MINE I'D HAVE A6 RATHER THAN C6 FOR TWO MAIN REASONS. I LIKE THE FATTER AND MEATIER SOUND OF THE A6,BUT IF YOU PREFER A TWANGIER SOUND,STICK TO THE C6. ALSO,BECAUSE E IS THE 5TH IN THE A SCALE YOU CAN JUMP NECKS AND IT WILL BE THE FIVE CHORD OF WHAT EVER KEY YOU'RE PLAYING IN AT THE SAME FRET. VERY HANDY. THAT'S JUST HOW I WOULD DO IT BUT EITHER WAS,DEFINITELY KEEP THE E13."

    • @MrWeedpatch
      @MrWeedpatch 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will try a6 instead of c6 for a while since Eddie Rivers does all his stuff on that tuning. My other question is will the same gauge string work 10 thru 46n? Thanks so much you guys rock and Eddie Rivers is out of sight.

    • @MrWeedpatch
      @MrWeedpatch 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I'm fixin to restring this thing. I hope these 10 thru 46 will work fo a6. Thanks JW Dawson alias [ mr weedpatch]

      MrWeedpatch, Thanks for your interest and feedback. I hope Eddie via me answered your question. I produce Western Swing RULES and run interference for the musicians who appear on the program. Since these professional musicians are usually busy or on the road, getting a question answered by them is always a bonus. Additional followup questions after the fact are even more difficult so it's best to get them all in the first time. Just FYI. Thanks for watching the program and I hope they are helpful. I appreciate your feedback.-RH
