- My next video will be better than this one, I promise. But today I talk about Shogo: Mobile Armor Division, a little-known FPS game from 1998 that pleasantly surprised me.

One of the first pc games I ever played. It was incredible. I choose not to replay it to keep that memory pristine. The video was a massive nostalgia bomb though.

I didn't care for this game at first but my kiddo loved it. I think it is one of the first games I ever saw him really enjoy.

Ah yes, a new arc has began. Please more outdated interesting games! I've been craving animes like Evangelion and classic Gundam, this dropped at an appropriate time.

I literally streamed this on Twitch approximately 2yrs ago. And some people questioned if this was an indie project. Nope!
I actually did play this back in the day one a Pentium III (1.1 GZ/128mb ram as I recall) computer. There are actually two endings, with a branching point a few levels from the end. Mecha controls are just fast first person controls, but hey that fits an anime mech more than Battletech movement does. Also the Easter-egg hunt for other anime references can be fun.
The odd combat difficulty seems to come down to random critical hits. Shots to the head do extra damage(and occasionally get the enemy to drop med-kits. Unfortunately, this is not a player-only convenience. Given the spread of NPC shots (especially shot guns) and most weapons being bullet-hose full automatic, the chance of getting hit in the head accidentally is quite high. This means the player can die probably quicker than the designers intended.

As a 38 year old that's had McDonald's quite a bit through their life. The regular hamburger hasn't changed that much from the 90's. Still looks sad and pathetic as always.

Oh hi, as some bad news for ya! Being an old man playing this back first came you may wonder if there is a modern version of this game, much like with the WONDERFUL No One Live Forever, if it was Published by Fox Interactive then the game would be in "Rights Hell" which Nightdive cant do a modern port.
That said it is funny that much of the anime and the OVA of that Era, SHOGO ended in "right hell" along with them, the exact some why can't get GunsmithCats "legally"....

Shogo is a game I enjoy but definitely flawed.
Shogo and Blood 2 basically got screwed by the publisher demanding Blood 2 even though Monolith wanted to make Shogo, so both games were made at the same time and it shows.
Shame Shogo 2 never was a thing despite Monolith teasing it several times.
I heard it was buggy as well and people thought the art-style was ripping off PoliceNauts so it got a bad wrap online. Also I referred to Shogo as Monolith's first game, totally forgot about Blood! 🤦

Blood was Build engine (so Duke Nukem 3D) while Shogo was LithTech.
It's a shame Shogo never got revisited outside of easter eggs in F.E.A.R.
I do occasionally, but then I forget about it just as fast. Unfortunately it's not a very competently made game. LithTech until 2.0 was kind of a mess.
i think two things killed this game. the ugly character faces and the critical hit system which is bullshit and just kills you randomly
