One of my all-time favorite shows, and it helped mold me into the worker I am today. I spent my entire childhood watching this show and this old house and thoroughly enjoyed them both. I didn't live on the East Coast, but I live in northern ohio, and it helped me learn long before I started out in the trades what to do and how to do it. I haven't yet found out how to be as successful as I'd like to be, but I'll get there one day. This made my Saturday/Sunday mornings complete as a child in the 90s. These two shows and Bill Dances' fishing show are shows that I still talk about and molded my life. We need more TV shows like this. Norm and Bob were pleasant while doing construction, and anyone in the trades has had or has a boss that's less than civil on the jobsite. I try my absolute best to be kind, patient, and teach people any and everything I can on my jobsite. They were both great role models and decent human beings. 🎉🎉❤❤
never had a shop class in my life, but I DID watch every episode of New Yankee Workshop, and by learning what Norm taught, I'm passable good, AND never had a shop accident.. Always wear those safety glasses. Thanks Norm.
When you see a title like that usually people take a strike at the person. As one who grew up watching Norm on new yankee workshop or this old house I thank you for the respect that you have given to such a wonderful craftsman.
RUSSIAN AMERICAN HERE, 27.5 YEARS IN USA, 57 years old, mason by trade and some carpentry, 32 years exp. Watched him long time ago quite a while. What a guy! The whole old crew of This Old House was just amazing! Roger Cook, their landscape-hardscape guy passed this year. I'm glad I came to America overlapping them in time, instead of in these times of sheer stupidity and nastiness almost all over the place, bad craftsmanship and nobody knows what. Very sad to see America is changing folks like him, their absolute fantastic shows, on these stupid shows on HGTV. Totally disgusting. These are not to know and grow, but to sit and watch this almost clownish back and forth psychology. Norm taught also me one thing: if you want to know a tradesman you hire, look in to his van. Though I know very good tradesmen guys with messy vans, never the less, I took for myself his advise to continue to keep mine tidy and clean.
Just a guess but I think the reason for the obnoxious background "music" is to prevent copyright strikes by adding to the original content. Yeah, it is annoying. I muted the audio and used the closed captions. I watched the New Yankee Workshop when it was originally broadcast. A great show!
The creator got one thing backwards. Was this a music video or a video about a classic woodworker. The non-essential music over powered the commentary. It was totally distracting. It would be good for the creator to edit this otherwise good video and lower the music volume to nearly audible.
The incessant and wholly unnecessary background noise is far too loud and makes what is being said virtually unintelligible. Both This Old House and The New Yankie Workshop managed perfectly well without any such distractions. Stop it. 🙄😖🤬
Not only was Norm concerned about his eyesight, he also fashioned earplugs, made from North Carolina Juniper, to block the annoying background music that haunted him his entire career.
For those who are worried that AI will replace your job, use this presentation to feel better. Just think for a moment-- if AI did your job as well as it did creating this video, would it be better than the work you do?
Ok. We're totally busted. The DNC Reality Show Hosts to Savagely Sabotage(DIY Division) have been stalking this guy...we finally got him! Remember, we sent Bob Vila packing (he does infomercials now...)! another Dark Government op averted!!! No, seriously, your parody of a MAGA follower was really funny...you nailed it! ( uh, you were kidding, right? Uh-oh....)
Yep it was so sad to see Norm retire.. I was there at the beginning to the last show.. Norm inspired me for years and still does.. Few on T.V have enjoyed such a huge following.. Norm is so real.. Hugs ol bro..
Cliff notes: He retired. You’re welcome, I’ve saved you 18 minutes.
Thank you.
Add my thanks as well. I like 5 minute videos 🙂
Lol
i guess only true Norm Arams fans like me watched every second of this video and enjoyed it. He is truly a master of his craft.

Sadly the background music that plays along with the audio portion of this show is just way too loud and irritating
Music unnecessary
You are correct.

I just loved Norm. Miss the weekly date with sawdust.
He is one of the few people that nothing negative can be said of him.
I always enjoyed watching him. He was good on many levels.
the best ever ive seen up to now
Everytime i touch my tablesaw I think of Norm
News flash. The "Real reason" - man gets old and retires. What a dumb title
Explain one more time how calm Norm was..
What a great guy !!!!

@@blueweld75 Thank you, God bless!
Norm was more important that Bob Villa and his ego.

Great doc! Music too LOUD!!! Thank you.

Can't even watch it😂
Wait, he retired?!?! Oh the humanity!
The incessant and wholly unnecessary background noise is far too loud and makes what is being said virtually unintelligible. Both This Old House and The New Yankie Workshop managed perfectly well without any such distractions. Stop it. 🙄😖🤬
You screwed this up with that rotten music. Thumbs dpwn!!
Turn the volume down and put subtitles on
It would be a good idea to re-edit this video and remove the distracting and annoying music. It doesn't help at all.
People get old.
This video ended suddenly like someone cut the electric off. What’s with that?
Not only was Norm concerned about his eyesight, he also fashioned earplugs, made from North Carolina Juniper, to block the annoying background music that haunted him his entire career.
You can see were Al from home improvements character was probably based on.
The background music is so annoying!
Had to move along.
It was a tv show afterall...

Click-Bait title, how sad and disrespectful to Norm's legacy, Ciao, L
18 minutes to tell us why. He retired…People do. What an utterly dreadful video
The music is awful!
Because he was a "*TRUMP*" SUPPORTER. ?? 👈. 😁As I Imm "**TRUMP 2024**".
Where did he say? He was a Trump supporter the man was tired and he chose to retire and do other things with his life. Had nothing to do with Trump.
