- March 5, 2013 - While on a safari in Tanzania, we saw 7 lions - 4 lionesses and 3 young males - take down and begin eating a Cape buffalo over the course of 3 hours. The buffalo had a buddy who came to the rescue several times, but eventually had to give up. This is the third of 3 short videos showing the attacks, rescue, feeding frenzy, and vain attempts to escape.
• Lions attack Cape buff... 9:30 AM - The buddy moves far enough away so the lions attack. The buddy returns and chases them off.
• Lions attack Cape buff... 9:50 AM - Lions bring down buffalo, buddy does not return
• Lions attack Cape buff... 10:10 AM - Buffalo manages to get up, in spite of feeding lions
We all thought the following fun to watch. One of several Serengeti lions resting in a tree, falls out of the tree, after vainly trying to hang on for a few seconds. No harm done:

To climb Mt. Kilimanjaro and safari through the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania, I chose to use Thomson Safaris, primarily because it was recommended by National Geographic and because it got many good write-ups. Thomson Safaris www.thomsonsafaris.com/ delivered everything they promised, when they promised. I recommend them.
For the buffalo to get back to it's feet the searing pain must have been excruciating?
Amazing video clarity. AWESOME !!! Thank You For Sharing !!!
Michelle, thank you so much. I was incredibly lucky on this trip to see the things I saw. Bob
Sa vous dérange pas de filmer la souffrance animale et en plus sa vous fait rire vous êtes vraiment des enflures des obsédés
The buffalo had a badly broken front leg, you can see it in the other videos. If anything, the lions are doing it a favor by killing it now. Instead of it having a long, slow and painful death by infection and starvation after days or even weeks of agony and painful suffering.
Indeed it is. It occurred to me that this was a one-time, last thing for the poor buffalo, while for the lions it was just one more activity repeated many times.
Hi Aren, it is sad to watch an animal die. Yet, if people stepped in each time the lions killed another animal, the lions would die a slow, miserable death of starvation.
The water buffalo is an Asian animal, while the cape buffalo is African. They are not related and the water buffalo is a bit larger.
Yes it is. A sad ending for him.
Those are some inexperienced youngsters
Forgive my ignorance but what is the difference between a cape buffalo and a water buffalo, if any.
LegionAire Minion roughly 5000 miles.lol
That's lions semi serious 😒
Awwww is it sad to see him die people ?? Whens the last time you had a nice steak and crab legs..
Lazy lions...
Forgot to biting neck..? 😈😈😈
Please, Cameramen stop wickedness get down to rescue the buffalo from lion attacks
If I was there I would have commandeered the jeep and drive the lions off and save the buffalo.
They are eating it alive because three female lions were not enough to overpower a young powerful male buffalo even with a broken leg. The three young male lions are clearly timid and inexperienced and offered little help in making the kill.
Lazy lions...
