This video literally fixed my whole technique problem & i've been doing muay thai for like 3 years. That kick never really felt right for me until now, i literally broke my bag & i've never been happier, tried it twice & was like "daaaamn, i kick this hard???". I'm actually so happy rn. The biggest reason for the kick feeling off was fixed after swinging my arm from the other side of the head, usually i wouldn't "load" that swing by having my right hand on the left side of my head, now i did just that & it all fell into place. Thank you.
This is the best tutorial I have seen, and I have watched quite a few. Great step-by-step explanation. I started doing this right away and I can already see the improvement. Thanks for the lesson!
@@PaulBanasiaklearned a lot from your insights, Paul! So much so that I can recal the videos and the frames I pauses to integrate your insights into my own. Thanks bud, you make us all stronger by sharing your insights
Great stuff coach. Love the way you broke down each step. The kick starting with the knee, initiated first "going straight up" then turning over has to be a first time ive heard it taught that way. But i definitely like that cue.
Yk how your supposed to shoot your knee way higher in order to hit higher kicks, and you don’t extend until full contact, same principle just full extension sooner since the kick is traveling half the distance
firstly i wanted to thank you for the video and taking the time to explain it in such a way thats easily digestible. Do you (or anyone that reads this) have any tips on not "over rotating" the lead foot ? I always tend to almost end up with my lead foots toes facing backwards, im sure this will come with practice but any and all tips are welcomed. Thanks again for the video, watching from melbourne aus 🤝
Just try to stand up in your toes, naturally you will roate what your body needs, in order you must firts stand in your toes, launch the kick vertically, then with help of your arm, twist your chest and hip, the knee arrive first then your shin to the target.
Watch back to the part near the end when coach Jack instructs the reset, then replay the motion. It should be a natural reset back into rhythm, you shouldn't have to force a particular movement. With that said, you could bring it back into a check if you expect a kick to come directly back at you, it is also a helpful motion to know if you aim to take steam off the kick when play sparring bare shin or when kicking into a check.
started Muay thai and I wondered why I get off balance and I have a hard time with my hip rotation. Turns out it was the step in that I was getting wrong. He's right, get the first part wrong and the entire kick is just weird, off balance, and vulnerable. Great tutorial mate
Are the toenails touching the target/pad? (I mean the nailplate) I’m a beginner and it seems I’ve had my toenail hit the pad too many times when doing this kick and it’s really painful now and even feels loose, I’m afraid if it gets any more touches it’s gonna fall off 😩
Definitely not supposed to to do so. Hard to say why it’s hurting, could be lots of things. Best is to check with a professional about it. Could be your hip muscles are weak and not supporting well the impact, lack of mobility or another more serious issue. Worth a check
Do a stretch routine at night. Plus step out and turn your hip and shoulder over. If you don’t turn your hip you’ll force yourself to hit the target incorrectly and stain yourself
it cross blocks as your opposite arm pulls, it's a natural movement that happens as you step and rotate used by every top femur. What do you see as the alternative? If you glue the hand up, it'll simply blind you and limit the follow-through on the kick.

Thank you so much, I'm going to practice this today!
Very beautiful video. I just wanna add that in traditional muay thai you will keep the lead hand on your chin for protection against counters.
Excellent

don't use your toe nail, no toes should be touching the pad or bag. Your shins are mainly hitting it, please don't do that.

Everytime i kick my hip hurts is it supposed to do so because i am no used to it?😢
I got the same issue, I think it’s because my hip isn’t used to the movement but could be something else who knows
You need to stretch and stretch and stretch and stretch
Definitely not supposed to to do so. Hard to say why it’s hurting, could be lots of things. Best is to check with a professional about it. Could be your hip muscles are weak and not supporting well the impact, lack of mobility or another more serious issue. Worth a check

Do Jumping rope.

Thats great, give me kingpin now
Excellent tutorial except the big arm setup. It is not mandatory and does add some risk by compromising defense.
it cross blocks as your opposite arm pulls, it's a natural movement that happens as you step and rotate used by every top femur.
