  • Chaitén is the largest commune in the province of Palena. Recognized for being the axis of the Carretera Austral, for the eruption of the Chaitén Volcano in 2008, for its ancient larch trees and for being the Chilean commune with the most protected wild areas highlighted by its Pumalin Douglas Tompkins National Park.
Belonging to the tenth region of Los Lagos, the city of Chaitén has recovered little by little after the eruption of the volcano.
Locations: Chaitén, Ayaraca, Poyo, Buill, Reldehue, Caleta Gonzalo, Sendero Cascadas escondidas, Laguna Tronador, Playa Santa Barbara, Parque Pumalin.
