Every year in St. Petersburg has place fire-work show and celebration of acomplishing schools and univerities. This event called SCARLET SAILS. Try to watch.
Damn, Jelly, it is my city! Its nice to see this video on your channel! The footage was made presumably at ''white nights'', on May - June, the time, when there is no night at all, only twilights. As example, at 4 a.m. you can read a newspaper on the street without flashlight! Saint-Petersburg was founded in 1703 by Peter the First, great Russian tsar and commander. He wanted to build a fortress-like city to successfully fight against Swedes and establish control over Baltic Sea. Later, he made Saint-Petersburg the capital of the country, the cultural and science centre. Our city also called ''The cradle of two revolutions'' because the were capitalistic revolution in February 1917, when monarchy fell, and, in less then a year, Great October revolution, established new communistic government over the country. The city changed its name to Leningrad. In 1941 our city was blocked by nazi forces, trying to demolish it to the ground and at the same time starve its people to death... Just imagine, nazi planned to capture USSR in a few mouths, to winter. But in the end, they, bombing, setting to fire, killing people with hunger, did not even conquered our heroical city close to the border of the country! Blockade lasted by 900 days, nazis fired 150 000 shells and killed approximately 1 500 000 men, women and children, half of the city! But the city did not surrender. Furthermore , the city kept producing weapon, such as a legendary KV-1 tank, which going to a battle at once after it drove out a factory. I am greatly proud of men, whose will was so strong, that kept them fighting being tired, starve, wounded, dying! There is Russian proverb: ''Die, but do!'' As you see, for my great ancestors even death is not a reason to surrender... In present, Saint-Petersburg is not longer a capital, but it is still a great cultural centre with many museums and monuments. People say that citizens here are very educated and polite. Even homeless - I am serious!) Come visit our beautiful city, I swear you will you like it!

Have you ever heard about the nazi blocade of Leningrad (the name of St. Petersburg after 1917 revolution till 1991)? It was about 1000 days under blocade, on the line of life and death... Thousands of dead children and woman, and so, and so... You should listen or read about this if you are going to St. Petersburg) And of course everytime you are welcome in Russia.

Weak from hunger, people fell in the street and froze in the snow. There was no electricity, and the water supply was frozen. Water was carried on sledges from the river. Furniture, books, and even wood flooring were burned in the stoves to keep warm. There were so many dead that they did not have time to bury them. I live in the North of St. Petersburg, and Piskarevskoe cemetery is not far away. 500 thousand residents of the city are buried there. Grave land was blown up and people were buried in several rows in mass graves. At the beginning of the blockade, there were about 3 million people in the city, and one million of them died from starvation and bombing. This is the most terrible page in the life of our Saint Petersburg.
