- I decided to do another reaction for a group I haven't really listened to! I know it's crazy to think I haven't checked out any BlackPink, but after the debut and 'Pink Venom' I'm instantly hooked! Super fun and super different!

They debuted with two songs. "Whistle" was felt to be the riskier of the two debut tracks, but would win them their first music award in, at the time, a record breaking thirteen days from debut. "Boombayah", their other debut track would prove to be a little more popular than "Whistle" and has over a billion views; with average daily views, still, exceeding 200,000.
Ahh okay. I'll defintiely have to check out Boombayah next. Whistle is a fun song, there were just some parts that I didn't vibe with 100%

Yep, Jennie is actually the main rapper in the group, and she has a great round voice when it comes to singing which I personally like it and they all can rap and sing fyi. And Lisa is the lead rapper and main dancer, couldn’t agree more that Lisa has this voice of rapper and flow, many reactors were talking the same things and that’s why they love her spitting her bar with her raspy voice style.

Whistle was SO different from K-Pop at the time the production company didnt want to release it. But the girls and their producer Teddy Park fought for it and they debuted with this and Boombayah. 13 days later Whistle won them their first award. At that time the fastest debut song to get an award in K-pop history.
That's so cool. I definitely got the vibe that it would be different from the landscape back then. I really want to check out Boombayah too knowing that they released them at the same time!
@@TysonPellegrini Boombayah is definitely worth watching. Personally i find it shows it's age more, but definitely became the more popular of the two songs on TH-cam, probably thanks to having a more club/party vibe. I believe its still the first and only debut song to hit 1billion views on TH-cam.
In the latest songs we barely saw Rapper Jennie so we actually excited to see Rapper Jennie coming back and Jennie will debut as an actress in the idol it’s a weeknd series that will come out this year

The fans have been hoping for Rapper Jennie - Lisa has carried most of the rapping duties lately - rapper Jennie only comes out occasionally.
Lisa can sing, too - she's just not as accomplished a vocalist as the other three.

The string instrument which Jisoo was playing is called 'Geomungo(Geo-Mun-Go)'. It's an old traditional Korean music instrument made about 1600 years ago.

2016 they had two release and both were taken so well that in award shows often the songs will compete for the points leaving other kpop releases behind. And they were the first rookies to do so.
And so began the Blackpink Standard.

People are surprised that Jennie can rap,
but true blinks know that Jennie is a out and out rapper from the beginning.
She is also a very strong vocalist.
Her rap style is definitely more sophisticated and characterful than Lisa. You can watch their early audition videos.
Lisa took on her style by herself later, with references to a few western artists. She was also given more rap parts in recent works. That is why people think that she is The rapper. But it is not true at all. It was purely the design of the song lately.

to me, lisa is more one dimensional, predictable, and has lack of intricate variance in her rap.
Jennie’s in comparison has soul in her flow. Not just hard machine gun rapping.
Good point. As a hip-hop fan, these are my observations:
1. Lisa's strength is her cadence, delivery, and flow
2. Jennie is the more technical rapper: her main tools are wordplay, syllabic acrobics, speed, doubles & triples, punchlines, metaphors/similes

I can definitely see that. Not knowing Jennie had a solo song and then reacting to Lalisa put me in a "rap" bias already. I think they compliment each other well, and hope we get some more Lisa+Jennie verses in the upcoming album!

That new JenLisa rap scene is so reminiscent of the good ol days of Aaliyah, Missy Elliot, Left-Eye (TLC) era. Almost felt like a homage. The nostalgia is soooo real.

How whistle was recieved? well.. in korea it had a PAK(Perfect all kill #1 on ALL korean weekly charts at the same time) and the ONLY kpop act debut song in HISTORY to archive that. no other kpop act did that before and after with a debut song.
That's nuts!! Was it just cuz it was so different from the other kpop songs coming out? I feel that's what BP's style is, is a more aggressive feel.
lots of these comments in this section is very weird about lisa so i’ll let just say lisa is a well rounded idol. thought she’s lead rapper and main dancer she’s also able to sing (her solo proved it). each rap parts she got were her well deserved parts in those songs so i don’t know why some fans keep going with this narrative that jennie is giving her her rap parts especially when it’s not them making these songs. the producer is the one to blame for how he constructs the songs. because as you can see in their debut song too whistle she sang and rapped. and in this recent comeback she sang at the beginning too and in the chorus and rapped along with jennie on the rap part. if you dive into blackpink bsides too lisa has singing parts too. she’s definitely not the best singer in blackpink but she can do both rapping and singing it’s just the producer who has to make better construction because as you can see jennie can rap on the songs too so she can shine as main rapper but it’s been like that to the point that it makes it seem like lisa has been “stealing” rap parts when it’s really not like that. I hope in this album jennie will get more rap parts so people would leave lisa alone with this narrative that she’s getting parts out of some sort of pity and you’re RIGHT blackpink is a hip hop group so it’s logical that there’s a lot of rapping they were never known as vocal heavy group.
I definitely think they work well together rapping. And obviously being super new to BP I kind of have a different perspective. These 2 songs, and Kill This Love definitely made me a fan and want to check other all their other comebacks, probably Boombayah next. And I do love a good Bside!!

ilove blackpink and actually jennie is the "main rapper" and lead vocalist. as jennie bias, its so sad that people didnt recognize her as main rapper because lots of their song, she just sing, not even had single rap line. like in ice cream, love to hate me,playing with fire,really,how you like that. she just sing most of the song. but its ok she had an amazing voice.
She really flexed her rapping skills in Pink Venom and definitely made me want to pay more attention to her, and check her solo stuff too!

I feel like everyone in the comments has cleared everything about each member's positions, but I also want to point out Lisa's dancing skills. THEY ARE AMAZING!! She has her own TH-cam channel where she posts her dance covers. My personal favorites are Lili film 3, Lili film 4, and The Movie. One of the best dancers in her generation. Jennie's vocals are seriously no joke, as well as Jisoo's and Rosé's. Both Rosé and Jennie have solo songs, worth checking out. I also recommend their Netflix documentary. Lots of English since three out of four members are fluent (with Jisoo being able to completely understand the language)

Whistle’s one of their debut songs.This song is for marketing in Korea. Their real debut song is called Boombayah. That was meant to target the rest of the world and that song did a great job.

Great reaction. You aren't getting the right debut experience. They simultaneously came out with Boombayah (in your face, loud and proud Blackpink) and Whistle (gentler and kinder Blackpink). So, go listen to Boombayah and Whistle will make more sense. The fanbase loves Whistle as much as Boombayah. But I think based on your tastes you will like Boombayah much more.

Jennie is the main rapper and the lead vocalist, if in all songs she will take both, the rap lines for lisa will be divided because some of their songs only have 1 rap verse. But if in all their songs were Jennie’s position was followed she always have the longest line that leads to More Hate.

You should check out the previous album in 2020 called "The Album". I love all 10 songs in this album. Actually I love all their songs in every album lol. Some of their songs don't have MV but you can react to their live concert.

Hoping you get to react to Rolling Quartz someday. Their drummer did a drum cover of Lovesick Girls and that is what got me into BlackPink (and KPop in general). They also did a stage cover of Dreamcatcher’s “Good Night” and that got me into Dreamcatcher. They also recently did an actual MV for that cover and they collared with Dreamcatcher’s MV creators on it.
So February 2021 was a pivotal month in my life. In one night I spent 8+ straight hours absorbing everything I could about BlackPink on TH-cam. Same thing happened one month later with Dreamcatcher.
And I owe it all to Rolling Quartz. Who I got to see perform and also meet at Otakon.
I owe those 5 girls everything. They changed my world. And whodathunkit? Rock and metal is considered Indie/underground in he land of KPop. It’s the opposite of Japan that LOVE rock and metal. But those girls have the most TH-cam subs of any KRock band in SK. They are rock’s greatest hope in that country.
Actually the MV Director of Dreamcatcher is the boss of the Good Night MV Director.

Yes, they spelled it wrong in the title.
My actual first intro to RQ was a suggested video. "Blaze Drum Cover". Thumbnail was a pretty, lavender haired girl with red lipstick. I was entranced. But after watching it I saw another suggested MV. "Blaze by Rolling Quartz" and you see her at 0:02.
So I'm like, "Oh, she's in this band". A band that proceeded to blow me away.

Whistle was released in 2016, it was their first number one hit. I remember being surprised at the time because it released as a double A-Side alongside Boombayah and I expected Boombayah, with the more typical Kpop sound, to be more popular on the charts but it wasn’t. Boombayah peaked at, no.7 while Whistle topped the chart.
This makes me excited for Boombayah, which is coming up real fast! Whistle is definitely fun, but very different from the stuff I've been listening too so it took a while to vibe with it.
