It's a Poem called 'Der Tote Wald" by Erich Limpach, published in his book "Fronterleben" (Frontline-Experiences). The foreword of the book states: "In these Poems lives the great war,, in them the soul of the german frontline-soldier is revealed." While some of the poems in the book are directly dealing with famous battles in WW1, this one is not.
