- This vintage Hoover Junior has been sat waiting for the time someone loves it again for 30 years according to the person who sent it to me, and I can well believe him!
Belonging to the church of St Luke's in Heywood, this time capsule of filth has come to visit me for a bit of a tidy up. But, does it work?

Little did the people who used that vacuum over the years know that a little boy who was still in his pram when it stopped functioning would make it work again. Sam, i know you just done the basics here and have not fully restored it as yet but that was remarkable. That you are giving the people at the church a deal on restoring the vacuum say's much about you as a man and human being in general and not just your exceptional repairing skills. Much respect to you.
The Hoover is still running great, it was nice to see you on the telly this week Sam.
I grew up in heywood. Was a surprise to see St Lukes featured here. Theyve been working hard to restore the church as it was in a bad way a few years ago but its restoration is ongoing and looking great!

I felt positively nauseous through most of that, all the crud and muck and dust. Oddly though, I wasn't at all surprised when the old relic ran pretty well. Good old Hoover, and good on your for taking the job on!

Ju at bought one for a tenner that has been refurbished in the 90s with a cream and brown look. Quite a good cleaner but the cloth bag at the top has some small rips. Any advice on to repair or can you still get spare cloth bags
Nice! You could try iron on patches from the inside, it's never going to look great so your goal is preservation really. A Dyson lower hose (dc04/7/14 etc), some tape, cable ties and a sebo bag make it bagged which helps. Or crack out your inner embroidery skillz. Pattern bags are out there, I have one tucked away but they usually annoyingly come easier with a shitty 119 attached to it. Which you then grow fond of, refurb and get running sweet as new as 119s always come up good mechanically, then you still need another bag 😅
Yeah could try stitching it up. I really hate the fact it’s been painted. They’ve even painted the bakerlite. I might have to run it down and repaint it closer to it’s original colour scheme. Mechanically though it’s brilliant. May have to buy new brush ends as it’ll be the daily I think along with a hetty which I by passed the pcb on to get working.
Test the paint first, often cheap resprays the paint never bonds and you can just wipe it away with solvents or chip or steel wool scrub it off without hurting the original paint. @@robertmij7425
That rubber on the handle might sun melted and that cord is very dry rotten

It's easier to look for an utterly scrap cleaner with the bag than find the bag itself tbh
