Thank you for showing how to add the LED lights. I have never done that yet, but feel I now have the information I need to attempt this. I have the second version of The Royal Blue with handrails and tender without the recessed sides, and with the B&O Herald placed to the front of the tender. I did some touch up paint and added the striping that was on the prototype and added the additional prototype paint to the top sides of the tender. I also used a white glue/water/dish soap mixture to glue artificial coal over the stamped coal. The addition of the artificial coal really improves the look of all of these stamped steel tenders.
Doug, i just love your video's and this one warms my heart. The Stream Line Pacific is one my favorite engine types. If you do not want that broken plastic shell I can use it for a project I have. I wanted to put white lights at the Ditch light area and tiny green running lights up on the number board but that is a tricky drilling spot. I am working on 3 Royal Blues at once. Called it the 3 Amigos. This is a different approach. I do not use very much of the AC Gilbert tech. I keep the Motor armature and brush holder but change the fields to DC magnets, I replace the reverse unit with a DC Reverse PCB and I install a 3 D Printed smoke assembly of my design. I think i have written you before.Your work to preserve these beauties is wonderful. Sometimes a new method could make the engines better. I would like to share stuff if your interested. See my work at Frankentrain Laboratories, I want to include your site link on my page because you offer excellent lessons on repair and restoration in a calm and practical manner, everyone needs to be aware of your processes and how to videos. Hoping you have a good year ahead, Dennis in Virginia
Wow, absolutely beautiful. What you can do with these old boring engines. I have done the same thing with American flier. 293 put in a new cam motor. Added LED lights in the front and red l. E! D lights in the cole car along with the flickering. Red light in the firebox and a rebuilt smoke unit. All that makes it look like a million dollar engine. Then you take it to the train show. And the old-timers say oh, you ruined it. It's not original anymore. They don't get it. It looks like a brand new considering it's over 70 years old. I think back in the day of American Flyer would have had the technology to add l. E! D lights, they probably would have done it.
Yes, with the exception of the Casey Jones 21168 and the of the Nickel Plate switchers and possibly the 21004 21005 engines, all other steamers with smoke units are the same type. Have fun.

Great job! It’s always fun to see American Flyer items brought back to life in creative ways.
I like the yellow
This.
Makes me so happy to watch this video now. I know I'm not the only one adding L. E delights in my older American flyer, boring engines.
