    I've always wondered about the moment immediately after Kylo ignites the lightsaber 7:13. It feels like so much is happening. His face relaxes in what almost seemed like relief to me, and I could almost swear there's a smile microexpression in there? He sharply exhales, as though he's suddenly feeling something unexpected. Before the following films bungled it up, I was sure it was him feeling the Dark Side take over. It's the relief of fully picking a side. The constant turmoil of the Light and Dark pulling at him, in a moment, gone. Like a man finally experiencing quiet after years of constant noise.

    • @AndNowIJustSitInSilence
      @AndNowIJustSitInSilence 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I also saw that as a moment of relief, but sometimes we are relieved of something just for it to be over and done, it doesn't have to feel good for us though. It's just like one thing less to worry about. Like when you hand in a really shitty essay and you know it's bad but it's over and you don't have to stress about it anymore

    That reminds me, Mandalorian has really great scenes, Pedro Pascal did a great job playing a character that hides his face behind the helmet for most of the time in the show.
    Even though episode 4 was probably least interesting in season 1, but there was one scene, where main character was asked to stay in village and forget about his way of mandalorian, this moment was really powerful and showed so many emotions even if viewers cannot actually see them.

    For as much as i dislike this trilogy, there is no doubt that Adam Driver was it's strongest point. If he had a better script following this film, he could have made Kylo a trouly stand out character. But as it stands, the character is in real life as in fiction... Living in the shadow of Darth Vader. But Adam Driver did so much with so little. And thus he is one aspect that i still enjoy watching despite these movies being pretty much garbage.

    • @DainLaguna
      @DainLaguna 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wish folks like you would mildly reconsider scenes like the one we have here, and how they are peppered throughout the trilogy, as indicative of the films not being garbage. The script not doing the things you wanted it to ≠ garbage script. There’s more emotion and nuance in this one small scene alone than the entirety of the 3 prequel movies and those films literally show someone being burned alive. I know a lot of Star Wars fans are without nuance, but holy Christ put things in perspective.

    • @MonkeyPowerkey
      @MonkeyPowerkey 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@DainLaguna I wish folk like you would mildly consider trying to ask ''Why'' rather than just jump on to assume ''WhAt i WaNtEd To HaPpEn DiDnT hApPeN sO fiLm BaD''.
      I didn't like the sequel trilogy because they're bad films. Bad Star Wars films. They fundamentaly missunderstand what STAR WARS is.
      I'm sorry you've had a run in with the bad kind. But if you stopped assuming we're all the same and actually asked us why... I can assure you you'd get a propper list of reasons why the sequels are just bad Star Wars films. And it has nothing to do with expectations. It has everything to do with execution.
      I came into all 3 with an open mind. Hell, the third one i went into with no expectations at all. And still i left disappointed.
      I know Sequel fans are unable to grasp all of this. But holy Christ, put things into perspective. And no, i will not be wasting any more time detailing why the sequels are bad. I've spent far too much time detailing all the issues i have. The effects look pretty tho. That's about as deep as it goes for me.

      @@MonkeyPowerkey Sequels are bad, prequels are bad end of story.

    • @writingref
      @writingref 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JacenSolo0 There's a difference. The Sequels are poorly WRITTEN. They are constrained by a lot of "white slaver" meddling.
      The Prequels are merely poorly EDITED. George Lucas with an editor as genius as his first wife makes prequels which are . . . dare I say Oscar worthy? (Especially episode 3) Even with Jar-Jar. There are a lot of ways Episode 1 especially works with better editing and its been shown - even the politics become more interesting and tense. Well . . . I may also concede Lucas isn't the best director to work with child actors. Jake Lloyd was much more capable than a lot of his line delivery suggests.
      Furthermore, in this alternate universe, the sequels would also have been lucas-led, and much better. Part of the reason the sequels fail is because they are, in general, very afraid of making connections to the prequels. I am not sure Lucas wanted another Skywalker to go bad - but he could have been convinced of the idea, because Kira (The original Rey) had a male counterpart who would have gone bad. (And because he really wanted Luke to end up the same as Obi Wan - facing failure as an isolated Jedi.)
      Lets just isolate this scene and imagine if Lucas could have been convinced to kill off Han . . . he would have used it for a purpose not just through Kylo Ren and his family, but also through Rey . . . and the problem with this scene in context to the sequel trilogy is Rey only uses it to blame Kylo Ren for who he is becoming, but she is never able to return to this moment with Kylo and forgive him for it. (And unless you read an extra layer deep into the Han "memory" scene - Leia never gets to forgive much either).
      Instead she almost kills him, and then heals him out of general compassion - which has no link to who she has become, but more of an ability she learned.

      I feel like the movie would have been an okay movie if they had tone back on Ray's powers a bit like her ability to read a trained Sith Apprentice to mind that was a bit far-fetched in Star Wars Canon the most I would give her as her Mary Sue would be her force grabbing the lightsaber semi-clumsily but showing she has extremely strong powers in the force and at least finding off the blows in a defensive form from the Sith Apprentice just barely and the only way that she's able to overcome him is by playing on his emotions granted emotions like anger and such can make a Sith more powerful at Kylo's level of training and mixed emotional state it can also possibly lead to him messing up his form "if there was any lightsaber forms in this movie" and making him slip up just for a moment for an opening for Ray to land a wounding blow. Grated I get this is more or less A New Hope rehash and I hate the fact that Disney just discounts the New Republic and the Pre-quails entirely but I feel like they could have been fixed and subsequent movies. I feel like the first movie was okay and the series could have been salvaged with Lessons Learned but they gave it to another director who wanted to tell a different story and send a different message so the second one killed off what was supposed to be the main end bad guy Snoke forcing the first Director when he came back for the third movie to hastily bring back Palpatine. If it wasn't for Carrie Fisher passing away I wish they would reshoot the last two movies add some proper lightsaber choreography and do justice to Luke Skywalker's character. Have the reason he has yet started the Jedi Order again is because he's trying to find Tython Or some ancient Jedi Homeworld that has been lost to time as a way to build up his Jedi Order and that's where Ray finds him on the fringes of the Galaxy searching for Tython or some ancient Jedi Homeworld a place with a temple that has been lost the time that he's been trying to find with the guidance of the force so he can rebuild the Jedi in peace and make them learn and be more like the Jedi Luke from the Mandalorian and not a old bitter man that gave up. The sequels theoretically could have at least been mediocre to okay I believe if the first director was still on it and or they let true Star Wars fans like Dave filoni or anybody that knew anything about Star Wars in the fan base have a hand and say and making it.

    This scene is so dope when you realize that kylo really cared about his father and was really conflicted when he was about to end him and after (wich is why he fought poorly with rey and the other guy) , he himself knew that there was a strong chance that solo could bring him back to the light, so by "I know what I have to do but I don't know if I have the strength to do it" he meant that he knows that in order for him to gain more power and keep going down the path of the dark side he needed to kill his dad, but this was obviously a tremendously difficult task for him to do due to the emotional conflict, so he asks "will you help me?", for he just couldn't execute his father in cold blood, all he could do was ignite the lightsaber and move on, "thank you".
    Han misinterpreted it all, his son didn't want to be helped back into the light, he asked for his help in killing him.

      Adam Driver is a good actor being told what to do by half assed Disney directors that don't know what Star Wars is, that was the real issue. His delivery's in the first movie were pretty good and this scene made him one of my favorites in how he acts out the character Kylo Ren. He's a good actor I love how we sometimes get a Dark younger style semi-akin to Vader in one scene but it's also shown he is no wear near as in control of his emotions with outburst of rage or has yet to master the dark side like Vader in his prime, the person he aspires to be. Its a great contrast to a man struggling to meet or at least match the power and control his grandfather had as a Sith Lord.

    Episode 9: Kylo Ren kills snoke and becomes the dark lord of the Sith, han tries to save him but Kylo kills him with the same scene, then Kylo destroys the Republic creates the first order (basically a better version of krayts empire)

      The first one didn't massively break new ground, but it was solid. The second one was a steaming pile of crap, not because it was "too progressive" as a lot whined, but because the pacing was terrible and Rian Johnson kept trying to subvert expectations so much that it became predictable...whatever SHOULD happen here, the characters are going to do the opposite. Part 3 had to recover from that steaming pile of crap and try to wrap things up after the previous guy took all the plot points from part one and told them to go fuck themselves in traffic. The third one wasn't horrible, but it had so many pieces to pick up it couldn't stand on its own.

    I never liked the sequel films, but this moment was one of the best in the franchise. Han began the story (Solo & A New Hope) as a man thinking about no one but himself, but in his dying moments, the only person he thought about was his son, even though his own son was the man who killed him. He had the best arc.

    The sequel trilogy is well acted, and the visual effects are truly amazing.
    My qualms are with the plot and story. On its own, the trilogy is perfectly fine. The issue is how Disney went about it - there was already sequel story, and a plethora of lore about non-film Star Wars. Disney chose to disregard it, and replace it. If Disney had made an adaptation of the already established sequel content, there wouldn't have been any controversy. However, for whatever reason, Disney chose to rewrite the story and lore to suit what they wanted - and it is extremely irking. I still feel extremely conflicted about the 3 sequel films, because they were produced really well. The issue is that the content contradicts what Lucasarts already put out over the decades before Disney took control.

    • @DainLaguna
      @DainLaguna 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The problem with this is 1.This is still lucasfilm. This is still a lucasfilm production. Disney is the owner of said company now but it doesn’t control whose at the reins. JJ and Rian were given the space to make the films they wanted to make and 2. Established lore in the EU contradicted itself ALL THE TIME. Star Wars films work much better as personal extensions of the filmmakers helming them, so just adapting a bunch of old books is low key boring. On the flip side of that, the Sequels contain elements, if not straight up adaptations of some of the most interesting things in the EU (Luke’s academy, Han and Leia leading a new republic, their son falling to the dark side, a palpatine clone wreaking havoc )so…everyone kinda wins? This is a made up controversy and depending on how old you are, its 10000% NOT the first time Star Wars fans cried about what was being presented onscreen and how its different than what they thought would happen or what they wanted.

    • @khajiitimanus7432
      @khajiitimanus7432 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DainLaguna My main qualm is the alteration of how lightsaber crystals work, and the initial choice to claim that the EU entirely is noncanonical. It is true that the sequel films did use elements of the old sequel content, though - they don't entirely disregard everything. Still, considering that the sequel comics was something of a generalized section of Star Wars lore, the fact that it was scrapped and redesigned years after being established is frustrating, regardless of whether it was the design choice of main Disney or the people running Lucasarts under Disney's jurisdiction.
      Perhaps I'm just unreasonable in that regard - I am personally unsure. Even yet, if I am unreasonable in my conflicting opinion, it is the opinion I stand by. I generally even feel similar about DC comics and Marvel comics, since producers and writers will generally majorly rewrite what happens - but the point I differ between Star Wars and that, is that Marvel and DC comics establish a multiversal concept, whereas Star Wars doesn't particularly do that - beyond some short "what-ifs".
      A lot of Star Wars fans genuinely enjoy the sequel trilogy Disney made, and to that, I say that it's awesome for them. I personally cannot find such whole-hearted appreciation due to some of the more bold design choices Disney made in retconning Star Wars. That isn't to say I dislike everything Disney has put out about Star Wars, though - Rogue One was absolutely amazing, and the Mandalorian television series appears to be taking an interesting turn towards a potential implementation of Old Republic Mandalorian concepts - an idea that I really enjoy and hope is the case.
      Of course, I am only one individual. It is very possible that what I perceived to be a matter of contradiction for many Star Wars fans may not be the case, and might instead be more narrowly focused on certain Star Wars fans - myself included among that theoretical minority. If that is the case, then I suppose I've been subject to some misconceptions about Disney's work on the Star Wars franchise. Such faults happen, so I can only correct it by reconsidering Disney's productions - assuming other commenters give input that I am indeed wrong.
