I feel like having a detachable cabin would be more dangerous than not having one. So much could go wrong.
I feel this would work on the dash 8 as the position of the wings and landing gear would make this possible

Detchable aircraft pods have been thrown around in the us for a while. in 1950 the US experimented with the Fairchild XC-120 Packplane. Consolidated, Convair, and other companies considered it.. Convair for example was looking at a detatchable passanger pod for the B-58 bomber, allowing up to 5 passengers to be carried instead of its bomb as a supersonic VIP transport. the idea of being DROPPED by accident though didn't appeal to many officers.

No fuel, the need for the cockpit and cabin being pressurized separately and a fucked COG is are some pretty fun side effect
Most plane crashes happen during take off and landing, where this is useless. If a plane has an issue so high up that a cabin could detach, it might as well just glide to the next airport. Any sudden problem mid-flight would jank the plane so out of whack that this would be useless too.

Very bad idea. Much safer and lighter will to to have parachutes for everybody. But... not everybody knows how to use them properly and those also add weight, which makes higher fuel burn.
