    Some places should remain secret. If not totally secret...actively protected. Come with me to one of these secret places to the hidden coasts of Maine. Leia and I camped off grid for nearly two weeks in a small campground on the coast of Maine. I made both medium format and ultra large format photographs with the Hasselblad 500 C/M and of course the 11x14 ultra large format camera made by Richard Ritter. In this episode I'll show you the beginning to end photographic process of shooting with a 11x14 ultra large format camera (Eastwood) on the Atlantic coast of Maine as well as how I developed the black and white film using caffenol. Finally, you can see my making silver-gelatin contact prints and also cyanotype printing from those negatives in my mobile darkroom (The Hive).
    It's a beginning to end photographic process of old fashioned photography in the traditional way. And yes, I was asked by multiple locals (who were very kind and welcoming) to not disclose the exact location shown here; requests I gladly honor.
    Custom prints from the episode are available from my website as they are printed. www.aphotograp...

    This episode was beset by delays. A corrupted card from the GoPro forced me to piece together footage from cell phone clips. Much was still lost.... My multigrade contrast filters were water damaged in cleaning and I had to purchase/wait for new ones then reprint the entire series (which proved fortuitous). My cyanotype emulsions were also damaged by UV light and had to be remixed and printed again. In short...it was a struggle...but this is still one of my favorite episodes. 🙂 Let me know what you think.

    Very enjoyable viewing. Loved how you let sights and sounds tell the story. Shout out to Leia and her generous hunk of roasted beef. Wishing you a happy new year, Adam. Safe travels.

      Thanks a lot, Eric. I'm still woefully behind on getting these latest episodes out there. The next is going to be a how-to on my "upgrades" done on the Holga 6x12 but after that it'll be another episode of just the sights and sounds of the shooting; this time from a Carmelite monastery. That will be showing the 11x14 as well as the Hasselblad in and around the grounds. It was a wonderful place. And a Happy New Year to you and your family as well!

      Thanks, Eric. I mentioned it to someone else down in the comments but I'll mention it again since figure you'll find it interesting as well. The episode after next will have footage of some shooting with the 11x14 at an old Carmelite monastery in West Virginia. I'm in the process of printing those negatives as we speak :)

      Yeah that was a weird spot. Very deceptive in terms of how close to the edge that was and I hadn't precisely thought out the dark slide replacement prior....

      @AdamWelch  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks a lot! And yes these prints were challenging really due to the fact my contrast filters turned out to be completely faded. Long story. I'm actually considering making a short episode on the subject because my prints now (beginning with these from Maine) have so much better whites/blacks.

    Maine has a special place in my heart. I came from far away. Maybe it was the sense of being far away; maybe it was the dense wood. Not sure. But I hope to go back one day.

      The first time I went to Maine was to visit an old college buddy of mine back in 2012. Before I flew up he told me Maine just felt different, the sky felt different, the air felt different. He was completely correct and I still agree the entire region holds a little something special. I understand exactly what you mean.

    I loved the fact that there was no background music in your video. However the ending was tasteful
    I also love your shots and your process and of course your dog. Mine wouldn't behave, so I never bring him taking photos 📷👍

      Thanks a lot Eltin! I'm glad you like the minimal talking as those are my favorites as well. I don't know if you've saw it but you might enjoy a fairly large playlist here th-cam.com/play/PLjY5X5tnyCs87IAPnKzoAkunqj_SWT0Ih.html of my original "Photographic ASMR." I haven't done one in a while but there are quite a few older episodes in there. Ironically, the next episode I'll be uploading is a big camera modification how-to where by necessity it's virtually nothing BUT talking haha As for Leia...she does surprisingly well but don't let her fool you...she's essentially a 70lb toddler :)

    I agree with locations, it's better to preserve them from tourism and tourists

    • @AdamWelch
      @AdamWelch  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely. The paradox about these places is that while it's true I do wish people to experience them...but in so doing it robs the place of what makes it special to begin with. Oddly enough, I generally follow this path of non-disclosure but this was the first occassion when quite literally every local asked not to tell the exact spot.
