I enjoy the chemistry you share on screen, Nick is always asking the questions that I would like to ask Yvan. The quality of the videos your putting out is amazing when compared to 1 year ago. Great work by the camera women (Sylvie?), production quality is superb. I hope we will see working on that jeep soon. 👌
The pad washer was one of the best purchases I have ever made on top of the gold standard. I needed some bigger pads so i went with buff & shine waffle pads although I use the yellow waffle pads on my DA's, They work phenomenal! Anyone wanting to try this system, it absolutely works and will make you more efficient.
What may be overlooked but worth mentioning is DIY Detail's response to just about every comment. Keep up the great work you're doing in the detailing industry.
Very good advice guys I agreed with you 20 years ago I went to study professional retailer for Swissvax in Switzerland and I'm still using same technics and still working with rotary Flex polisher greetings from 🇧🇪.
I had not polished before. Watched these guys videos and used the yellow waffle pad and gold standard polish with excellent results on our SUV and truck. I appreciate your videos and products.
You just described my situation. I’ll be a customer of DIY Detail for life. Not only are the products great, but the video content is invaluable. Next up: interior ceramic 😀
It's the pleasure to see you both and listen a valuable info. I always have a smile on my face when I see the new video appeared. Thank you for your effort and keep it going! ❤
I thoroughly enjoy the Gold polish system! The purple wool pad cuts more than you think it would. The yellow pad is so versatile and finishes down very well. The red pad is therapeutic to me. Thank you guys for all you do!
Amazing content. I can validate that same variables with a rotary and 21mm the 21mm cuts more. Although once in a blue like Nick says cutting with a rotary is fun and doable but we find ourselves chasing the rotary defects from cutting which can take 2 extra steps as opposed to just cutting with a da then finishing with one pad on the rotary.
For those of us who may not have the exact same equipment you're talking about, can you convert polisher speed settings (1-6) to OPM / RPM? Very interesting video, very educational and straightforward. Thanks!
@@diydetailofficial Thanks for your response. I just bought Griot's G9 and G8 mini. G9 is 6", 8.5A, 9mm throw. G8 is 3"/2", 6A, 8mm throw. Both have six settings, range of 2000-6400 OPM. Haven't tried them yet.
Do I need to do anything to strip the old wax off of my car before polishing? Or will the polishing step itself take care of this. Your advice would be most appreciated.
This will be the first time I’ve ever polished and just want to do a “cleaning polish” - I’m perfectly happy with the look of my paint. So, I was thinking of using your red waffle pad. I don’t have that fancy pad cleaner, so what’s the best way to wash the pad as I’m polishing? And how often should I wash it while I’m polishing? Thank you!
So if low speed is key to cutting (with right pad and abrasive combo), then what are the key variables to finishing/polishing for maximum gloss? Is it faster arm movement with low speed? Or fast speed with rapid arm movement? Or same technique and entirely dependent on the product/pad combo?
If you plan to use all 3 pads in the GS system on every panel, is it best to leave the old GS polish on after each step or to clean that polish+Paint off before the more refining polish steps?
I am a DIY friends and family. Have two polishers Griots G8 and G9. Don't want another polisher. Will the red pad be effective to finish polish with these? Thanks!
Question on your short nap wool pad. Whats the difference between short nap and high nap wool pads and why would I choose one over the other? Got curious since you opted to sell short nap instead.
My question is more appropriate for this video. Do you know that the temperature of a black hood on a sunny day is within 100 degrees Celsius, and the heating from an eccentric rotary machine at maximum speed under load and in slow motion is a maximum of 45 Celsius...?
Hi, I am new to this. What polishing pad is best to put on polish with and what polishing pad is best to buff with please let me know I want to do the right thing. Thank you.
DIY Detail Gold Standard Polish is an abrasive, not a wax. You choose your pad in function of the amount of defects on the paint. th-cam.com/video/i5v9_Kgp6R0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=qotc5lB_yFHNJYVM
I just wanted to know because my car is brand new and I like to keep it protected against the winter weather in New Jersey. Please respond back. Thank you.
Good video. I have a Flex XC3401 I bought in 2007 when it was hot. It’s kind of a pain on some surfaces. Is there anything it’s good at or should I ditch it for a rotary or 15mm random orbital without forced rotation?
Awesome video guys! Quick question…the gold standard polish tends to clog the sprayer on my bottle for some reason (this happens when I use it, store it, then go to use it again)..any tips to prevent this from happening?
Before storing, remove the sprayer from the bottle, spray contents into bottle to empty the sprayer head, put sprayer back on bottle and close the nozzle.
Hello, Im seeking advice on how to remove optimum tire protection and coating from a install over a year ago and is starting to fail. Rupes academy, teaches that the rotary cuts and will burn paint faster than a DA and finishes better. But yet, Ivan says that a DA does the opposite. Rupes sell both polishers so why would they being Rupes say that??? Regards, Tony
It depends on how you use the rotary. At high speeds and with lots of pressure ( like they teach) , it’s definitely going to do damage. With the same pad, polish, pressure, and speed, the DA by design cuts faster.
Polishing system is truly the GOLD STANDARD. So effecive and takes the guessing out of it. That red pad though..... 🐐
thank you! The rotary jeweling pad is awesome :)
I love how meticulous you are about your work. You are amazing Yvan💪🏼💙

Speed Myth ~> Highly rated & respected TH-cam sources recommend starting at power level #2 & once the polish is distributed, increase the power #4-#5.
When we had laquer paints that was true. Unfortunately some haven’t updated their techniques to follow advances in paint technology.

My question is more appropriate for this video. Do you know that the temperature of a black hood on a sunny day is within 100 degrees Celsius, and the heating from an eccentric rotary machine at maximum speed under load and in slow motion is a maximum of 45 Celsius...?
Correct, but when the sun heats it, there isn’t a pad spinning on the surface trying to rip the fragile paint off.

Is gold standard a 2 in 1? Or is there a compound to recommend
It’s all you need
Is there a maximum paint/body panel temperature that you would not compound/polish
90 -100 f
My question is what speed should I set my Dewalt DA I've heard the top speed should be 3500 is that the correct speed?
3-3500
Can I stack all 3 of the diy detail ceramic coatings and if so does it matter which order I stack them in
You can, but it’s not going to improve much of anything, 2-8 hours between products is best.
Are you using rinseless wash as your cleaning solution in the pad cleaner?
Yes, at 256:1
If your using a pad washer can you use one pad for the whole car or should you use multiple pads?

Is there a way to remove scratches and polish by hand?
Yes, but it’s a lot of work.
Do you use 3 inch or 1 inch polishers as part of your system?
If you want, yes
So with any machine use no pressure? Just the weight of the machine?
Correct

What brand of rotary you recommend?
The Flex is excellent, the Maxshine for the money is a great tool
Where do you get those clear buckets?
From a local restaurant supply.
What psi of compressed air that is safe for cleaning pads
as we talked about in the video, we don't recommend compressed air for pad cleaning...try the pad washer and you might never go back:)
The only time a DA will cut faster than a rotary, is when the operator of the rotary has no idea what they're doing
To each his own.
DA or rotary for a 1 step?

So if rotary is better for finishing / polishing and can technically do cutting, why do so many recommend a DA for beginners?
