I marvel at how officers withstood being on the open bridge in a North Atlantic winter gale dressed in duffle coats!
I sailed on her farewell cruise as a young sea cadet 1970 I think.
How did you find the pitching up and down in the ordinary seamen’s quarters in the prow? Must have been ‘uncomfortable’ to say the least!
@@stephensmith799I can't remember much, but I remember watching a movie in the canteen at night and we were bouncing around a bit. We slept in an electrical compartment on camp beds, it was only 3 nights.
She's a beautiful ship indeed....
I served on a similar class of destroyer for one year, H.M.S Chieftain. A little disappointed there was no visit to the seaman's messdeck.
Unfortunately not all of the ship is accessable, but is still a pleasure to visit.
I must confess to being ignorant of this ships preservation! I knew Canada had a Tribal destroyer preserved but was unaware of HMS Cavalier. Thanks
She was called " the laughing Cavalier" because her moral was so good.
She looks in great shape!
She was also called the hen of the fleet because she was the fastest of her kind
