I just got the urge to explore abandoned track all over the country. This is super sweet. You could probably make money off a series with little trips such as this all over the states. It's a view most people will never see.
@@johndorian1357 Its because this is the area its based off of Lol. this is what the wind farms and near here is the Salton sea and sandy shores is based off that area.
This is something I've ALWAYS wanted to do. When I was a kid, a guy in my village converted an old Ford Fiesta and used to go up and down the British countryside's disused lines
seriously amazing footage at 5:30. I'd love to see a video of just you guys riding the tracks in first person with no music (just the ambient noise) so that we can put our own music on and watch it. If you happened to have a VR camera to make a VR video of this that would be amazing too though they are a bit pricey. One can dream ey!
While the documenting of the ride is not unique, I really appreciated your use of the drone camera to blend in footage of just seeing the two just taking in the sites as a great break for sometimes the same viewpoint(like at the 5:00 mark). Nicely done!
Great job on the video.......The drone just makes it that much Better.......ThANKS........................JB......Too bad the track is now GONE........Was a great place to ride.............
This is so much fun. I make a trip down to Rosamond/Lancaster CA every year because I love that area of the desert, this looks just like it. Thanks for sharing :)
This is absolutely brilliant. Thanks for sharing this it truly is amazing & id love an adventure like this but living here in Wales 🏴 it’ll only ever be a dream. Good on you for doing this & when I’m feeling down I will watch this video & dream. I have loads of questions but don’t want to bore you. All the best to you 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
@@ryanrandomness I actually have a question, have you considered using regular car rims on something like this for track before? I would assume nothing would happen to the rims since the build itself if very low weight to what it’s designed for, and might even provide better placement on the rails
Dude. Yall should build a little roof and add a couple solar panels! You get so much sun there, it would save up on some gas and also mean you never run out or have to think about gas.
Is there a place where someone could find a listing of abandoned tracks like this all over the country. I think it would be a blast to built a lightweight cart like this and travel around. Have to keep having adventures while retired
We went camping a while back in the ocotillo area, by the windmills and a culvert. We were having discussions that evening about building one of these to explore the old tracks and trestles
@@jamessimmons1888 that's cool. I think you're going to regret the solid steel wheels. I tried some and they were terrible. Heavy, unbelievable loud, and uncomfortably bumpy. Just my opinion poly is the only way to go.
Here from shared video on Reddit. I’m in awe! This looks so awesome! Love the drone footage with music! Make a kit and put it up on eBay. Or just the instructions and sell those! Looks like an engine, plus another $100 in random parts. What’s total cost on this? (I know you had to make the wheels and couldn’t buy those, but they have a cost too for sure)
I think the whole thing was maybe 500 bucks. Engine $100, wood $100, wheels maybe $250. Axles $100, seats $10, pillow blocks and throttle few bucks. That's really it.
@@ryanrandomness if you had a car behind this covered in four 400 watt panels that you were pulling do you think it could power you at full sun? I wonder how many watts it takes to move you if it was electric.
The wheels I have are solid steel wheels 3 inches wide by 9 inches diameter. They're heavy, but I think they will absorb vibration good. I'm not concerned about noise so much. They actually are like something the railroad would use on track maintenance equipment.
Gonna make one of these, put it on the line behind them when they pass, bring my megaphone with me and play train whistles or horns on my phone through it. Lol 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
I take a rough guess, safety wise, that is an officially abandoned commercial track you are usinga? Love your ingenuity with the cart. Octillo Express, now boarding.
I’d love to do this. I know where some abandoned railroad tracks are but there’s actually grass and trees growing through them so I guess I might not be able to do this
How are you so sure there isn't some messed up tracks just ahead of you? Are you droning ahead to have a look-see? Some of those little bridges would kinda freak me out. Also, are rubber wheels a possibility? And (one more...promise) how far can you go knowing how far you have to travel back?
Considering the speed they're going, even if there was some damaged tracks that had broken in half or something, I doubt it'd throw the whole thing forward or that they'd go flying off or something, they might slide forward like they did at 4:20 but I suppose you could fix something like that by hammering on a front plank to rest your feet against so you won't slide forward. Also presumably it wouldn't be too dangerous to leap off the cart at those speeds if you saw a big problem in front and couldn't slow down in time, especially if the surrounding area is mostly sandy.
I've been down this track before this day so I know what to expect but you never really know. Anything can happen. I keep my speed down to where I know I could stop and keep my eyes down track. The bridges can be freaky. Have you seen Carrizo Gorge? The wheels are softer polyurethane. Very strong, smooth, and quiet.
As far as distance I really don't know. This track here I rode for about 13 miles uphill and then on the way back I shut the engine off and coast back and actually have to slow down.
@@ryanrandomness do you think HDPE over a steel or aluminum rim might work well? It's the type of plastic that I have the most ease of access to. I can just have it layered onto the rim while the blow molder is warming up and then machine it down to what I need
