As a sr citizen and a life-long print journalist, who isn't bothered about the name of a party or of its leader, I expect from it not electoral rhetoric, slogans or false promises, but delivery on the ground, nothing but delivery on the ground. By that criterion, I wish to be honest enough to accept that delivery on the ground ensured by the pro-welfare good governance of the Aap in both Delhi and Punjab is a unique record in post-Independence India. It's an indisputable fact. Who can dispute the world class, free education and free quality medicare, apart from the other benefits, being provided for the people by the Aap govt in the two places? Its phenomenal feat for the past 10 years is that every year it has posted a surplus, yes a surplus annual budget, the only regional govt in the whole nation to have achieved that. The reason is that under the Aap there is corruption-free tax collection and its distribution among the tax payers in the form of free socio-economic benefits for all regardless of caste, class, religion, gender or language. And this despite the relentless, sinister moves by Modi and the BJP to oust the Aap govt in Delhi. Since Prof Akhil Swamy is a respected academic and U-Tuber, his dismissive comments on the Aap in the context of the Haryana election is indeed unfortunate. If even liberal, enlightened U-Tubers cannot warm up to the reality of the Aap's unrivalled governance record, then it doesn't augur well for the nation. Isn't it our first duty as right-thinking citizens to recognise and applaud pro-welfare governance wherever and by whichever party it's provided? Media importance is generally given to the parties with long careers like the Congress (over a 100 years) and the BJP. On the other hand, an anti-corruption, pro-welfare young, political outfit like the Aap is ignored, even shrugged off, despite being the 6th national party in just 10 years. The Aap's USP is its overwhelming emphasis on universal, free and world class education as the key to nation-building. Just look at the global powers such as America, west Europe, China or Japan. Can there be anybody in his right senses to challenge the importance of education for any society? The Aap may not win a single seat in Haryana this time, but it would be foolhardy to believe that it never will. Once the masses begin to understand its ideology of an anti-corruption, pro-welfare governance model, the Aap and no other party will be headed towards ruling this nation.
