I'm getting this 3D printed to shit test where the weak points will be. Our specs right now will be the following when we make the metal version:
4" C Channel - 3 pieces 4" long attached like you see in my mock up. 1/2" thick. Flanges 1.5" with supports on both sides, no back. One support (on the front) will be removable if I desire to test cams not positioned correctly and I'm not pulling too hard. This will fit up to a #4 C4 and will use C Clamp swivel ends on the bolts that adjust the free floating 1/2" plates inside that are able to slide back and forth via the groove plasma cut out of the top. Welding some giant files to the face of each plate should give us enough knurl to keep the cams from sliding.
    Always open to more thoughts!

    Great videos.
If the movable plates had threaded bars welded on the back, you can use nuts on the outside to lock the position, and stop the vibration seen in previous tests.

I don’t know how think you’re steel plate on the side is but you could always weld nuts to the outside to have enough threads for your bolts.

8:43 you really do need this edge in the bottom since it's what keeping the U shape from opening. These should be pretty beefy too for not to stretch or break.

If you're worried about the flanges on top flexing you could always weld in some small triangular reinforcing gussets. You could also make interchangeable inner plates that have different kinds rock topography/features like divots, cracks, protrusions etc. to make it as versatile as you wanted. 👍👍

we might make a solid verison of this (4 sided C channel) with a rock inside epoxied in, then create a piton scar in the middle and see which cam holds best brand for brand

I’d like to see rock plates.. you could probably use bathroom kitchen tiles and perhaps resting mount some random rock pieces onto plates too
