He walked away from the castle left in ruins A path of destruction in his wake. The clouds parted, and the warmth of the sun brought the question - Is this what you were made to do? He removed his helmet, dropped it into the soft grass. Would this quest ever end?
The Mega Man ending songs always seem to have more of a tragic feel than anything. And fittingly enough: This cheerful and innocent kid who should've been the son Dr. Light never had, forced to fight and kill his own robot brothers... and for what? No matter what he does, Dr. Wily always returns, and Megaman must continue to fight and kill. Yet in spite of all this, he never loses sight of what's right. Fight on, Megaman. For everlasting peace. (...Dang it, I'm crying while typing this. T__T)
Reading all these comments that were so sad Megaman was seemingly gone for good just makes today so much sweeter. We've missed you, Megaman, good to have you back old friend. 💙
As Mega Man walks from Wily’s castle, many thoughts cloud his mind. Who were these new robots? Why did he let Wily go again, thinking he would have a change of heart? And the most prominent thought, how long would he have to fight to truly bring peace back to the world? As he reaches Dr Lights lab, he removes his helmet and places it on a nearby hill. “Maybe someday”, he thinks. Little does he know that he would face these thoughts once again, after nearly going against his own morals and coding. But that is a story for another day.
Mega Man 2 was the very first game i ever beat as a child, i was so happy but at the same time i was so sad i started to cry without knowing why. Looking back It was a mix of happiness that i finally beat the game but at the same time, i knew i could never play it again and retain that same feeling i had playing this game for a near year at the age of 7. It took me months since there was no saving, no check marks or anything. I had to study the enemy patterns, levels and bosses for close to a year and when i finally beat it and watched Mega Man walking home through the weather and take off their helmet i was so happy but so sad that it was over, my first depression.
Oh my freaking gosh, I think this theme just knocked the wind out of me, I'm not kidding. This track is so emotionally powerful, thus unspeakably rewarding after a hard won fight with Dr. Wily's arsenal. No other video game music track that exists has ever been so amazing that it almost winded me. This theme and Wily Stage 1 are truly the best compositions in the Mega Man series, and among the very best of any video game composition in gaming history. And of course, Mega Man 2 is my all time favorite video game from any era, any year, any generation, because its that damn amazing.
R9Megabyte yes this is one of the most special ending themes ever. Ocarina of time's ending gets me pretty choked up too tbh. Link, give the ocarina to me. She puts her hand on his w that sad look in her eye, then plays Zelda's lullaby to send him away. Then he puts the sword back and his only friend left Navi leaves him out the window. And he still turns around and walks out of that room like a boss. Gets me every time. Its unfair to compare bc n64 allowed for so much more elaborate endings. Also mega man x5's ending credits theme was heartbreaking too.
This ending was revolutionary and iconic for its time. Basically every game during the time had happy, cheerful endings with fanfares. However, this introduced a truly depressing feeling, like you did something wrong. That there could be be a better ending. But there isn't. This is your only choice: The depressing music and empty feeling of Mega Man just walking. He doesn't say anything, he doesn't think anything, he just sadly has his head drooped. Nobody had ever seen something like this before: A sad, terrible premise. As if Mega Man was punished, not by Wily, not by Light, not even the robot masters, but the person controlling him: The player. It brought new expression and made you care about a story that was hardly there. A character who hardly spoke. And a game. This ending paved the way for more emotional story elements in the game. Trust me, most sad stories in game must have been influenced by Mega Man 2. There's no way you can deny it.
I’m probably going to play this at my graduation ngl 🥺 I can see myself in a tribute video saying goodbye to all 3 of my school mascots and then walking off into the sunset welcoming my future life
So what are your theories on the end, of him walking as the seasons change but he stays the same? Then he takes off his helmet and vanishes. Is it playing to the fact that he is a machine that will never age or change?
I think it means that no matter how long he is immortalized by the fandom, he will always do the same thing on loop. When he takes off his helmet and vanishes, that’s him finally dying, when everybody stops making his games
yeah, I'm kinda teary-eyed right now. Listening to MM2's ending theme and seeing your comment recently made me very tired, and I slept many days. That just shows how lethargic I have gotten recently.

When I heard this song. I always wondered why it was so sad. Had not defeated Wily again? There should Megaman being happy? Or maybe he did not want to keep fighting. Anywho. Sayonara Rock, did a great generation happy.
I suppose it was because developers knew it was going to be the last Megaman game. The 1st one had very moderate reception in Japan, however, it bombed so hard in USA. A rumor says Capcom allowed his employees to work on Megaman 2 only on their free hours.
He's right, I am a murderer. But until six months ago, I was just an ordinary high school girl. Do you remember what we promised? We're not going to lose anyone else close to us again.
