      @TheAirbrushGarage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Barbara. Yes, I use the 2 gallon for all my airbrushing. I've been using it for about 2 years now, and I love it. It's pretty quiet, but best of all, it does not run hot, so I have absolutely no moisture problems, and it holds very consistent pressure. Harbor freight also offers a no hassle warranty that if something goes wrong, you bring it back, and they give you a new one. I never had a problem, but you never know. Hope this helps. • @TheAirbrushGarage
      @TheAirbrushGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      James, the compressor will handle 60 to 65 psi but the cycle times would be shorter. I apologize, I didn't mean to leave the siphon artist out. Honestly I would probably move to the 4 gallon at a minimum for that type of pressure just for the cycle time. But compressor would not be very portable. Thanks for the comment and watching.

    I also bought this compressor and think its GREAT!. Its quiet, refills quickly, and offers many more uses than what it can do with an airbrush. I refill my car tires, bike tires, use an air attachment to blow-off/clean areas, and its good enough for low-volume tools like small nail guns or staplers. IMHO... don't get the 1 gallon version.
    I do suggest, like others have, to add a hose between compressor and water trap to allow air to cool and have water trap actually work. I use a 25ft coiled hose. If trap is attached directly to compressor its basically not doing anything.
    If I really didn't like noise, I could place outside and run hose to inside though a window or make a wall plate and run through wall, but its was much quieter than I expected and its noise is not a problem for me. If you want super silent or noiseless, they are available, but much more expensive. Most of the normal airbrush compressors are louder and not nearly as good. IMHO: never use any tankless compressor.

    You have probably heard of the Super Silent 50-TC 1/2 HP Air Compressor, do you think it’s worth the high price or the fortress is more than enough and at a cheaper price? My thing is the noise... I want the quietest one and the Super Silent one is 40 dba... 20 less than the fortress but does it make a big difference?

    • @TheAirbrushGarage
      @TheAirbrushGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Eh, the Fortress is quiet but not as quiet as my master airbrush compressor. 20 dB is noticeable. The Fortress is definitely more than enough but if having the quietness is what you ate looking for you probably will have to spend the money. If you have a harbor freight near you, you can go in and try the one on the floor. This way you can hear it and then decide. Hope this helps. Thanks for the question and thanks for watching.

    Hey, I just purchased the 1 gallon Fortress and with an airbrush at about 35psi I only get about 15 seconds before it refills. There are no leaks anywhere. I saw your review of that model and you got about a minute. I'm guessing something is wrong with mine? Thanks for any help!

    • @TheAirbrushGarage

      Hi Manny, the test was done at 27 p.s.i. that is my typical spraying pressure. So at 35 p.s.i the take will drain quicker. I bought that for a relative and he loves it. I have the 2 gallon in my shop. Both perform the same except for the cycle times.

  • @t54760
    @t54760 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Add me to the list of people who are happy with there's. I bought the 2 gallon a few weeks ago because of all the good reviews including the one you did Dan on the 1 gallon back in April. This compressor is a really good fit for me and where I use it. Have a few hours on it now and it has given me zero issues.
    There is one part of the design that bugs me though. Not a deal killer by any means but I'm going to have to do something about it. Oddly enough it is one of the features you liked, the drain valve placement. Yes, it is out in front but it is not plumbed to the lowest point of the tank. If you drain with it sitting level there is still a lot of moisture left in the tank.
    To get all of the water out you can't just rotate the entire compressor the approximately 40 degrees needed because the valve will hit the floor. You have to lift the tank, put the back part of the compressor on the edge of a bench or table. This will let you rotate the tank enough to thoroughly evacuate the moisture without the drain valve hitting anything.
    You shouldn't have to go through this at the end of every session. I'm thinking about welding up a cradle that the compressor sits into. It will keep the tank rotated so the drain is at the lowest point and give easy access to turning the valve.
    Like I said I'm very pleased with this compressor it's just this one balancing act you have to go thru at the end of each painting session that needs fixing.
    Maybe I'm the only one that can't walk away knowing there is still water in the tank. I've been bitten by that with my shop compressors when doing full resprays on cars and RV's. If anyone else has a method or idea please let us know.

      But since it’s an aluminum tank it won’t rust, right? Agree it would be nice to have it empty but is there risk of damage by leaving it?

    • @t54760
      @t54760 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davidknight133 It won't rust but Aluminum forms an oxide layer in the presence of oxygen. Ever seen bright shiny aluminum that has gotten dull and when you run your fingers across it you pickup a little powder? Besides this oxide it's just not a good idea to be spraying paint with pressurized air that has excessive moisture. Even with a water separator and filter located down stream of the tank it goes against the idea of clean / dry air.

      @@144928 - Thanks for sharing this information, a dB meter is the only way to truly compare and know the noise level between different air compressors, especially seeing how noise tolerance and expectations vary greatly between people's situations and surroundings. Testing noise levels without a dB meter is similar to trying to tune a musical instrument without using a tuning fork or an electronic tuner, point being, without some kind of standardized measurement, guesses, assumptions and biasses begin to creep in.

    • @hardtymz2517
      @hardtymz2517 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@__WJK__yea I agree. The video had no sound pressure measuring and that’s a no no for testing anything “ultra quiet”. It might be quiet to so many because old compressors obviously blew their ear drums out after using them for years. 70db is getting close to ridiculous loud. HF sells a tiny compressor just for airbrushes and it’s mad quiet! Also Db meters are dirt cheap. If it was 60db it would be closer to be acceptably worth the extra money it was charging for that feature. But 70 is almost a deal breaker.

    Hi I just bought this based on your review can you tell me the reducer coupling size for a standard AB hose? Thanks and keep up the vids!!

    • @TheAirbrushGarage
      @TheAirbrushGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      JAllred2, Great choice on the compressor, good luck with it. The fittings are 1/4", so depending on what airbrush hose you have will depend on what you will need. I have hoses with 1/8" on both ends so I needed an adaptor that went from 1/8" to a 1/4". Some hoses already have a 1/4" on one end and 1/8" on the other. Here is a link to the compressor fittings amzn.to/3NrmfuX
      Thanks for the question and thanks for watching.

      @@TheAirbrushGarage Thanks for the reply. I've been happy with the compressor but have noticed that the tank pressure does not equal the output pressure regardless of how much pressure I have in the tank. the output stay at about half. Could I have a tiny leak somewhere. This started about a month after I got the compressor. I airbrush just about every day, Thanks!

    • @TheAirbrushGarage
      @TheAirbrushGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      @jallred2 I'm not sure I understand. You have your output pressure set at say... 27 psi at your regulator and when you spray it goes down?

    • @jallred2
      @jallred2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheAirbrushGarage Hi, The tanks pressure gauge says 120PSI the outlet pressure says 60 PSI. Half the the output. It stays constant at 60 when I spray but wont rise above that no matter how much I increase the tank pressure using the regulator dial. Is that normal, thanks.

    • @TheAirbrushGarage
      @TheAirbrushGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      @jallred2 ok. The tank preasure is always going to go to about 120. Now the regulator dial should let you set it at whatever you want. Now. There is a red lock right under the black regulator knob. Make sure that is turned all the way down (lose). That is a stop for the regulator.

    At $130 that is a great price, though 60db is not something I would call ultra quiet. My Silentaire Super Silent 20-A runs at 30db. My studio is in my house so I need something a bit more quiet. Great review thank you for the content.

      Jason, thank you for sharing. That will be very helpful to other viewer's. I have not had the opportunity to test or own a Silentaire but but my research says they are very good compressors and at 30db....Dam that's quiet. Thanks for the comment and watching.

      I just purchased the Silentaire Super Silent 20A from a nearby thrift store for $60 and have been looking around on here and there to find out just what exactly it is that I have . . . and what all I might can be able to do with it. I need A LOT of info, accessories . . . not to mention operating & maintenance instructions since all I have at this time is a box with air coming out of a hose when I turn it on. HELP !
