    I love seeing the way you position your fingers together. I'm in a class with some beginner throwers and I think some dont recognize how much easier it is to build walls when you start from a curved dome position, rather than keeping the shape entirely at a right angle from the beginning. Great steps!

    You are absolutely correct, basics are the foundation to any skill. No shortcuts, just building skill, takes time AND learning from someone who controls those basics. So, thank you for taking the time for me.

    Thanks for the video. Just beginning on the wheel. I can definitely see how "practice, practice, practice" on a cylinder is exactly what is needed

    Thank you very much Simon. I have one question, how wide did you spread the cylinder? So it’s 5 inches tall how wide? And thank you for such a clear and concise video I shall practice.

    Hello from Japan. Been "doing" pottery for a number of years, and I have become determined to be able to throw a pot WITHOUT luck. My goal is to eliminate the "happy accidents," if I can. Thank you very much, Leach-sensei, for your good encouragement! (By the way, I wonder if you ever received that caricature of grandad with Hamada-sama (sent, from Mashiko, to your email under my real name... ; )

    A very useful review of the process. You say 12oz should make a 5" tall cylinder, but what is the diameter?

    • @11pleon
      @11pleon 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably just big enough to put your hand inside

    • @Mikedartagnan
      @Mikedartagnan 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried this today and mine was 5 1/4" tall and 3" in diameter, but I made the base a bit too thin.

    • @sleachpots
      @sleachpots  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mikedartagnan - 3" wide is good !

    (Who would thumbs down this video???)
