It has come to my attention that my idea that the Rune-Gild does not blót/sacrifice, is "baseless". Some of you may think that the research for this video was done in a couple of months, but it wasn't. The contents of this video are a 2-years research and contact with the Rune-Gild, its members and reading their entire works. My idea that the Rune Gild does not blót isn't baseless, here's why: In the essay “Why Runers Don’t ‘Blôt’” (2006) Thorsson gives a primary motivation to his objection concerning sacrifice, because in his own view and in his own words, blót/sacrifice entails worship, which is something the Odian is not focused on ("Odian" as he refers to those of the Rune-Gild and himself, as the religious focus being solely on Odin and emulating this god). Thorsson made it clear even in the title of this essay itself - Him and the Rune-Gild do not blót. As I've pointed in the video, their concern is not worship of the Norse/Germanic gods, or any worship at all. The focus is Odin (spelled Òdhinn in the Gild), without worship, but rather he is termed the “god of inspiration” and is emulated (Thorsson 1987). The specific focus of the Rune-Gild is on the Germanic/Norse Runes; Thorsson distinguishes between Odinism and Odianism, the former implying the worship of the god Odin and the latter involving the emulation of the god. The Rune-Gild is, according to Thorsson/Flowers, an Odian, not an Odinist, organization (Thorsson 2003), even though it has been clear that it also incorporates Odinist conceptions and racial-motivation in part due to the involvement with the hate-group AFA of Stephen Mcnallen, but the main focus is "becoming" Odin and acquire the wisdom of the runes, in other words - emulate the archetype of "the god of inspiration" and no worship, therefore no need for blót.

" and no worship, therefore no need for blót" ...this is plain wrong. Arith, if you dig a little deeper into the curriculum of the Nine Doors of Midgard you will see on p. 161 Thorsson says the following "It should be remembered that generally, the attitude of the male Runer is that he imitates or emulates Woden as an archetypal or exemplary model for his consciousness or behavior. If he is going to worship anything in the usual sense of giving his honor, love, and devotion to something outside himself, then a goddess, usually Freyja or some other feminine entity, will be the recipient of this attention." For anyone reading this comment just look at the 6th and 7th doors of the 9D and you will see that the practical work therein is rife with blóts.

@@huginn2649 I read the 9Ds and in that phrase Thorsson is quite clear that himself and the Rune-Gild are not interested in worship. The worship he speaks about is towards those who want to do it outside this organization and system, towards other deities, but not towards Odin and not within the Gild. The idea remains the same, no worship and no sacrifice or blot to Odin, just to other gods outside this organization. Thorsson has been demonstrating for almost 40 years his disdain for every religion that has worship. He is always bringing down everything that isn't his own organization, basically calling others' religions as invalid, fake and falsified, while his own ideas are the true ones, the authentic ones. So Arith is right. You don't even have to read the essays Thorsson wrote, because there are plenty of interviews with him always pointing that his is the only reconstruction of the authentic religion. Thorsson or Edred Flowers is just another one trying to stand out as the cultic leader. Arith is actually doing us a great favour, by destroying idolatry and letting people be free of religious leaders and following their own thinking.

Arith does indeed do his research and we should all be grateful for that. And, we should all listen to him about (paraphrasing) 'studying and learning for your self', he provides wonderful materials to aid in your own private search for knowledge, you just need to listen to what he says - be attentive as he often says-using the materials and really listen to what he is telling you.
As far as Stephen Flowers/Edred Thorsson, I feel I owe him a bit of gratitude for this reason, (I am in my late 60's) before so much materiel was readily available at the click of a key, Dr. Flowers-not the gild- published some of the only books that were somewhat easily available. I had no idea where to begin and his books, in particular Northern Magic, provided that starting point.
I guess my point here is, as with all things, you must apply your own prism to what is before you, take the good things that enrich you and your quest and simply leave the other clutter behind. don't get caught up in looking for something that could be construed as offensive and allow a single sentence or paragraph to turn you away when on the next page may be the knowledge you are seeking.
Thank you Arith for your time and devotion to this largely lost knowledge. I always look forward to what you have next.

From your description the Rune-Gild is just another occult lodge with all the degrees, sworn petty secrets, and required purchases. The Rune Gild is the 'corrected' form of the Armanen Orden. Edred regards himself as the heir to Guido Von List. All external influences are projects to help achieve this. I'd assume that's the root of his behaviour.

    • @josefweber899
      @josefweber899 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

To add on, Guido Von List had an influence on the National socialists in Germany. The idea was that all other cultures stole the true esoteric teachings from the ancestral German Race, and so it was ok to study these as they were originally German thus it wasn't ok for other cultures. Hence, it could be ok to study Karate let's say, because it was originally stolen from the ancestral Germans and poisoned.
Of course, an absolutely insane way of thinking.

i have just checked out the wikipedia entry for edred thorrson; there are some problems with the references, apparently there are not enough to verify all of the statements made. it was very interesting reading. it explains even more than arith's video already does. thorssons's involvement with the church of satan and the temple of set are made clear, it also makes clear that the asatru folk assembly are interested in or have purchased the rights to thorsson's books, so they are definitely involved.

But what is more than curious - indeed, piquant to a degree - is that an ancient god of storm and frenzy, the long quiescent Wotan, should awake, like an extinct volcano, to new activity, in a civilized country that had long been supposed to have outgrown the Middle Ages.

Dear Arith. It would have been nice if you had actually contacted the Gild and talked to some of its current members before publishing this video and labelling the Gild a cult based on mostly incorrect information. This actually seems to be quite the opposite of being impartial and looking at both sides of a coin, at least to me…

@@ArithHärger research is all well and good, but interviews would be a more balanced way of assessing a person or organization. People change and grow (hopefully) so an interview would allow for people to respond to what you say, and explain their past and current positions. As you seem to have a disdain for most organizations you discuss, it would be humanizing for the discussed people and organizations.

Esoteric Ism and the Runes can not be separated,. From the begining according to the Havamal Odin's discovery of the Runes was an esoteric enterprise, they have only continued to be so unless of course you believe that the Runes are just an alphabet.
As for there being no religion historically then I might point out the main Temple at Upsalla and the organized belief structure including a priesthood.
As for the Rune-Gild putting Odin first and foremost it seems a reasonable position if a person is serious about studying the Runes. Who better than the Father of the Runes to offer inspiration.
Now to attempt to explain the mystery of Odin and Set. A working was performed some time ago it was revealed that Odin and Set are blood brothers they mixed their blood with the soil and formed a pact for the joint ownership of the world 🌍
In closing let me say I am not trying to disparage you or your teachings Mr Harger I am in general a fan of your work.

After 40 years of trying and struggling to fit into the traditional religion I was raised in I've come to a clear conclusion that I didn't belong on that team or that side and I've only just taken a step or two on this left hand path...and while THEY would like everything black and white, absolute, good and evil...I've come to realize it's more about balance and the universe balances everything out....and though I don't use it on youtube here my actual 1st name is Heath....so I was named and born to be heathen I think. I know you said you're not here to judge anyone but based on what I've said here do you think that makes any sense? Do you have any advice for a newbie on this path?

Strange. I fell to this same conclusion back in 91/92 when I came across his Norse Magick or whatever it was called. I read it thinking I'd be finding answers to questions and came across a declaration against Christianity or something.. basically swearing off Jesus. Now I've never been a Christian as the faiths of Abraham seem empty to me... but to me, that little chant seemed offensive and I didn't know why then, so I called this thorsson bloke to be... culty.

These other religions are indo-european religions. Generally all religions have changed over time and this is documented in the many of today so we know where these changes are. The things used to reconstruct a germanic or other european religion have generally been things of very easily identifiable similarities of Indo-European influence or Neolithic farmer influence that are very obviously shared amng the indo-european religions. For example you've made videos about the indo-european wolf warriors and how even in hinduism they existed. One things that has changed in Hinduism over time is that the vedic peoples (indo-europeans) who brought the vedic religion and vedic culture to India were herders and ate meat but over time some hindus in india started to become vegan. Veganism is not indo-european but became a later development practiced by some people in hindu culture of later india. Another example of relations between these many religions is the neolithic farmer influence on the Vanir. Freyja is said to have a chariot pulled by cats much like the earth goddess diety that spread throughout Europe from Anatolia. Originally these cats were actually lions but lions only existed in some parts of europe and were hunted by europeans to extinction so the later Germanic peoples likely never saw any.

The term 'left-hand path' is connected to the Sanskrit 'vāmācāra,' the "left way," which has been used to refer to groups and individuals which explicitly transgressed the authority of the traditional brahminical hierarchy through the use of impure sacraments (commonly meat, wine, sex), practicing culturally unusual degrees of caste- and gender-equality, and worshiping fierce deities in mortuary settings. In my view, oppressive and prejudiced social hierarchies are a disease.

We need writings that romanticize the historical truth, since those who take their first steps into it, are looking for something romantic, to enrich their lives and/or take control of their lives.
The history just isn't 'sexy' enough for people, without romanticizing vikings, which itself is a related, but also unfortunate issue.

  • @arachnocult

It seems we are again in agreement.
There are still so many people bringing up some works and acting like it is (historical) truth. Too bad Western occultism has always been a hotbed of politics but this is not surprising seeing in what era it arose. It was rife with Nationalism. We should see them in the context of the times they were written.
Nowadays we should know better. Every Joe and Jane now has access to historical texts, musea collections etc. but still there is this tendency to fall back on works written in those times yet refrain to untie their thoughts from their agendas.
For instance; it irks me to see so many people promoting tolerance and peace yet praising Blavatsky who was an outright racist. Theosophy is filled to the brim with disgusting race theories.
Good thing I have never been much of a follower.
