This video saved me a fortune because I Already have a Nikon camera and any external microphone connected to it is making a hiss + whistle sound. After hours of searching I found out that the audio support in the camera is bad and I have to buy a lot of things to work around it. The camera is a gift from my friend and I don’t want to buy another one. I tried other software didn’t fix that noisy sound for me I just can’t believe this small size software fix it perfectly more than I expected. My camera is Nikon D3200. Thanks for the comment. Fine tuning Audacity is more art than science and much of it is trail and error. As an alternative you may want to experiment with Adobe’s amazing AI voice enhancer. Having hiss on a voice-over recording can be annoying and in this video I demonstrate how to reduce it. I have to say I recorded this on the hottest day of the year and you may be able to hear my computer fan cut in.... in addition to the digital hiss I was trying to remove 😁👍
You should be able to export your iPhone audio into Audacity and remove that way. There isn’t an Audacity app at the moment, so you will have to do the noise reduction on a laptop or desktop.

I don't have any studio at home or anything like that. I only have my computer, a mice and software. So, sitting in my basement (it's like a livingroom really) I don't get that crisp clean sound I would like to. It's like you can hear that I'm in a room where the sound bounce of the walls. It sometimes sound like I'm in a tunnel.... Any tips without having to buy more equipments, etc?

But right after I posted on this video it occured to me that the pop filter in front of the mic might be a part of the problem. Why? Well, as it turns out it's made of metal (soft aluminum) and it came in the box with the mic. And after I watched another video of yours I then found a few pillows, etc. and used it for sound absorption materials. And it worked better this time.. So, thanks again!
I often highlight parts between spoken words and silence those parst to remove the hiss where it’s noticeable but not from behind the voice where it isn’t noticeable. That way the voice isn’t altered at all.
There is a new de-esser plugin for Audacity; go to the Audacity forum and search for ‘updated de-esser for speech’ and this will take you to the relevant download page.

I tested my regular Apple headphone mic and then the Audio-Technica 2005 USB mic and they both do it. Although the AT2005 is obviously better quality. I would love your help and input.
:D - would selecting and replacing the 'hiss' with 'silence' be another method to rectify this problem? Just a thought as this might stop the removal of the resonance of your voice. (PS: I won't mention the background buzzing this time; oops, LOL. Sorry).
The problem with inserting silence is that it creates uneven audio. Inserting unnatural silences can disrupt the flow, making the narration feel disjointed and less engaging.
I’m recording acoustic guitar and the white noise is driving me nuts. I have to turn the mic gain to capture the guitar, but the white noise also increases. I’m using a condenser mic into a focusrite Scarlett.
Yes, the more you turn up the mic gain, the more white noise you are likely to experience. Much depends on your equipment though. The higher the quality your gear is, the lower the noise floor.

I'm recording acoustic guitar using a brand new Ashton Origin going into a Scarlett 2i2 second gen audio interface. I'm thinking the only way I can solve this is by purchasing a plugin such as Waves Clarity or Brusfri Klevgrand. It's very frustrating. Thanks again.
@@1megawhite That sounds like a great combo and should give you a very low noise floor. If you have too much white noise, then check your audio settings and mic position. Another possible culprit could be your mic cable, so it’s worth swapping your current lead for another one just to rule that out. It’s a process of elimination.

I do not recommend inserting silence between words as this will create a choppy effect. A little room tone is fine so long as it is not too prominent.

You would be best looking to upgrade your microphone and interface and so reducing the chances of white noise in the first place.

An XLR condenser mic with a decent interface will improve your signal to noise ratio.

You definitely want to fix the source of the hiss if possible - check the cabling - perhaps you need to replace the xlr cable if faulty.

*A Noise Gate plugin is a better option. It get's rid of the hiss during the pauses, but leaves it in during the vocals.*
The problem with a noise gate is it drops the in between parts down to absolute silence creating a choppy sensation for the poor listener.

It depends how loud the hiss (white noise) is. you can always repeat the action - you will find this option under Effects.
