@JerseyMikeHVAC took 30 minutes once I had the part. Very tight quarters for the boiler behind a water heater. Figured if I was going to remove the thermocouple to either clean or diagnose it, it made sense to just replace it. Inflation made it a $12 part...
Man as someone who is getting into HVAC but haven't started school and just kinda wanna learn thing beforehand alot of this is just word jargon to me. Staring at the screen like what am i hearing lol but im looking forward to learning and appreciate the work. Its insane you went through all that by memory
It's going to feel like you're drinking from a fire hose for a while. Just focus on understanding how things actually work, not memorizing things, and you'll be just fine.
Why do some techs place heat; such as lighter or torch unto the thermocouple? I notice they do this to make the gas valve open (pop)!!!. Is this method a away of testing it? I noticed in frigid weather where the pilot light went out for days; due to wind, then this sometimes starts it up.
The thermocouple sends out millivots that the gas valve uses to hold open the gas solenoid to feed the pilot flame. The main gas solenoid on the gas valve wont open unless the pilot solenoid is kept open by the thermocouple.
Thanks for this video, saved me a lot of time and money.
Thanks for showing the alignment of the thermocoupler. I didn't have mine pushed out far enough when I replaced it...
Best concise video on the subject. Thanks for all you do, man.
Very welcome
I wish I could see what you're doing. Video instructions are great

@JerseyMikeHVAC thank you, I appreciate it
Nice tutorial thanks 💯👍
You're welcome
Hey..should you replace the pilot assembly as well..and is it just as simple..
I ordered the complete pilot assembly gonna try and do it myself
I always keep a new thermocouple somewhere near the unit so when it comes time you always have a new one . Cheap insurance .
