  • This was a concert in the middle of our Midwest tour. We played in the St. Ambrose College theater on August 9, 1986. I'm playing the Arban Carnival of Venice with a couple innovations of my own.

I played next to David at the tuba euphonium conference in Washington circa 2004. The whole event was wonderful. I was a guest as principal euphonium from the RM Band. Wherever you are now, I wish you the very best.

Very impressive. This is a challenging piece, for only the most advanced euphonium players. 😊

I have always admired your playing! The audiotapes that you made available to the public back in the late 1980's were fantastic!

Is there a reason I see lots of professional euphonium players that studied in Iowa? I’m from Iowa and a euph player and love the company 😂

I'm going to play this piece (not transcribing from the recording, but from the arban book itself) and I was wondering if I could have some advice for playing carnival of venice?

I have made some videos about practicing this piece:

@David Werden thank you! Much appreciated. I recently went to state solo and ensemble with this piece and I was given superior ratings! The info given in those videos helped me a lot.

    Where'd the sheet music go?....

I usually only put up music for pieces that are not well known. Or in this case, partly that and partly the fact that I don't have written music for some of what I played! This year I'll be publishing my "encore" version of Carnival of Venice, which is shorter, and it will have much of what you here in this video that is not in the Arban book.

The intro page of music is displayed. Since no other pertinent images are shown, would it kill you to show the rest of the music?

It roughly doubles the time it takes to put out a "video" like this, so I do it sometimes but not always. I chose not to for this one for two reasons. 1) Most people know the Arban variations already, and 2) I did not at that time have a written version of everything I played. Therefore, regarding reason #2, you would have seen music on the screen that did not match what I was playing.

something is wrong with his trumpet. he's got it set on easy. he needs to release the octave key and play it like a real bugler.
aside from that, very music. much notes. big noise. tasty tasty.
