SAN ANTONIO - Boerne High has been known all year as the Great Wall of Boerne for their offensive line and high scoring. Turns out their defense is just as good.
T.J. Dement ran for 3 touchdowns behind the line while the defense forced 5 turnovers in a 35-0 win over Tyler Chapel Hill. The win secured Boerne’s 1st football state final in 100 years of existence and will play defending champion China Spring for the gold medal in football to go with 2 soccer titles already won in recent years. The win ended San Antonio’s 6 year drought without a finalist, the 1st win for SA over NE TX since 1947, and the Greyhounds can end the 3rd longest SA drought without a title next week.
“We dont have a bowl game, we have a business trip!”
Those were the words spoken by Boerne ISD athletic director Stan Leech shortly after the Greyhounds finished off Tyler Chapel Hill to reach the 4A-I state final. The Greyhounds (15-0) took care of business in the 2nd half after a sloppy 1st half which saw a red zone turnover but strong defense. The Bulldogs (12-3) drove down the field to start the 2nd half but turned it over on downs. The 1st Boerne snap after the stop was nothing more than an 83-yard run up the middle for Dement to make it 21-0 and end the drama as far as who would win.
The defense got 2nd half interceptions from Houston Hendrix, who caught a touchdown pass in the 1st half, and Koen Wolff, who ended a personal 3 game losing streak at the Alamodome in football and basketball.
Chapel Hill forced a red zone turnover on a tipped pass that was intercepted but had a devastating series of plays at the Boerne 1. Down 14-0 in the 2nd quarter, the Bulldogs tried a direct snap to an offensive lineman lined up at quarterback but he fumbled the ball. On the next play another bad snap was fumbled and the Greyhounds fell on it.
The defense held Chapel Hill to 215 yards and a measly 3.9 yards a play. Both of those numbers were inflated late as Chapel Hill picked up yardage off the Greyhound prevent defense but turned the ball over to end drives.
Boerne will face China Spring in the final Friday afternoon in Arlington. The Cougars won the 4A-II title last year before moving up a division and are 30-1 the last 2 years. If Boerne wins they would be the 1st team to win football and boys soccer in the same calendar year since Southlake Carroll in 2011.

don't forget about Them Poth pirates
Absolutely not. They were in Houston at the same time. Did cover them against Shiner this year. th-cam.com/video/eNapwoyrEHg/w-d-xo.html
Man they beat Da Brakes off Chapel Hill
Is Boerne High School from San Antonio?
He should have said from the San Antonio area.
Boerne is like 30 miles northwest of San Antonio
Thank you sir. That's what I thought.
@@stevemajors121 …and Poth is 40 miles southeast of San Antonio. Brennan will continue to get better and they will put on for the 6A in pure dominance.
It's 20 minutes from SA
See you at state Boerne from Refugio
