I purchased Chamber Strings. I purchased BBC SO Core. And I purchased a substantial number of other Spitfire libraries. So yeah, I'm willing to pay for their excellent work. But not on a subscription basis. So nope. They lost me there.
Well, I'm not sure this "Labs +" would exist if CH was still at Spitfire. Actualy as Labs were free, which is a plus, I would call this new paid version "Labs -"
It feels like a lesser version of what musio is. It’s interesting, Christian left spitfire and then he starts his own company with a new free series of instruments. Then spitfire proceeds to end the free labs series by setting up a subscription… for me it wouldn’t make sense to get it but for beginners it’s a good deal.
The fact that the paid content is only available by subscription hurts, I have to say! Unfortunately, this seems to be the new trend in general. Fortunately, I'm not dependent on LABS(+), as I'm well stocked with libraries anyway, but I like the experimental nature of the content. Now we can only hope that free libraries in the LABS series will continue to be released!
Can't say I'm impressed by them going Subscription Only. That alone means that I won't be getting it. That 8 pounds per month doesn't sound a lot, but by the time you factor in currency conversion, yes, it IS a lot. Plus there's not a lot there that I'd actually use. One-off purchases for ones that I'd actually use, yes. The subscription trap, a very firm NO.
Now I think I have to crack it because I don't have internet at my home if it was one-time purchased with no internet i would love to pay straight up i spit on spitfire what a greedy company they better introduce subscription plan to people who already bought their products and they have to pay for using these libraries i would love see the drama
For me, personally, I hate paying subscription on ANYTHING. Would MUCH prefer just actually paying for the plugins and samples and having them, rather than paying monthly. This has almost totally lost me.
I 100% agree about wanting transparency. I own a decent amount of their Originals library and BBCSO Discover. So those libraries being added in Labs+ has no benefit to me because I have access to those instruments. If this was set in place from before those purchases, it'd make it more enticing. I think if it was stated that Labs+ is to make.paid libraries accessible, there would be way more clarity.
I don’t know if the whole visual change is also a way of mocking whoever uses it on top of that. It’s ugly and doesn’t match how the rest of their products are presented. The always online thing is a huge letdown as well. As always, subscription based services serve nothing but to remove ownership from the user and hold said user for ransom while business slowly figure the proportion of what they can take away before they start losing money.
I also got the email. To be honest, I am not a huge fan of this. However, thankfully, according to the LABS team, they are still going to release free stuff for the free tier of LABS+ too.
Hey. So new LABS+ plugin replaces old one and it has the same name so old projects will work and just interface would look different, is that right? What about controls old plugin has? Like types of reverb, tuning, etc. Are they still exist or they are gone? Thanks.
I was unaware that Originals were included in this. Not sure why they don't call it Originals +. Does anyone know whether they will continue to release Originals to buy outright? p.s. not a fan of the subscription model personally, but horses for courses..,.
But only for the "premium content", or all new libraries, I'm not sure. Those that were already free before will remain so and will continue to be available outside of the subscription. However, I don't know whether new free ones will be added.
I wish I never downloaded this Labs+, it wiped out the original (FREE) labs I had. I'm not liking this at all. Sound presets have evolved so much, Labs was impressive like 5 years ago, but now you can get similar quality from stock plugins.
I have many original Labs instruments and a chunk of Originals. Am I understanding that I will loose all the Labs instruments now? Will the new app automatically give access to all the legacy instruments for free? It’s all a bit muddy. It’s a real shame they have chosen to go this way. I bought Originals and a couple of pro libraries from them because of the good will of Labs. Disappointed.
By "all the labs instruments" i take it you mean the samples pre-LABS+, in that case, no. They are still free and you can still download them without paying the subscription
You still have access to all your old free once’s, and they all work within the new LABS plugin, you can even hid all the “LABS+ once’s by clicking the download only slider
"a bit muddy" is too polite :-) No you will continue to have access to LABS for free. But the ne smart Spitfire strategy is a total mess. Confuse, and in a way i'd say "unfair" because they have "wrapped" an established free product (LABS) in a paid subscription. Very ugly way to communicate with their customers.
this is more geared toward new users. but there just isn't enough stuff there if you compare this to Musio or East West.. Spitfire need to add some of their older libraries in there maybe.. but the problem is , their older libraries all work in Kontakt, i duno, Labs+ is weird. I dont' think it will do that well honestly unless they get someone to make a bunch more stuff for it similar to Originals. I'm not updating to Labs+ , I rarely even use LABS stuff anymore anyway
Musio I would say is currently a better deal! A lot more content, and more solid libraries. (Or though I still recommend BBCSO Discover and save up for the core if you compose orchestral music) While LABS plus feels very bits and pieces, but that can be seen as a good thing to some people.
@@Joe-blogcomposer you remind me the BBCSO Discover "issue" (for my perspective). I sent a proposal to Spitfire to possibly release an update transforming it maybe in a paid product but enhancing the quality of sound (1 sample/1 round robin is nowadays ... too basic IMMO). This could be a much more interesting move but no, they have the guru of marketing. Spitfire for me is in a decadence slope. Sad.
wtf is this? The design is god awful. The paid subscription completely invalidates the whole purpose of LABS, which was supposed to be quality instruments for free. I'm also hearing that this new plugin requires internet at all times? Wtf?
I think that for someone new to the Spitfire scene, the new Labs is possibly a very good deal. Personally having most , if not all of the originals series , plus a good collection of their orchestral and Solo instruments and all of the Free Labs series , it is an unnecessary purchase. It’s not clear to me or definitively made clear whether or not trying the L+ Beta erases existing free labs content ,so for that reason I’m out.
The application is awful with no ASIO support or at least not that works. There are some functionality issues with no control over volume, and no obvious way to assign MIDI CCs. Then there is the GUI which is absolutely hideous and eye watering to look at (what were they thinking) and appears to again have less functionality than the previous Labs GUI. So far not impressed and I am as yet to be convinced to go beyond the free trial.
It's about time SA caught up with Orchestral Tools - offering fewer articulations from a single release. But this sub model (and any sub model)... hard pass.

I'm sure I remember CH saying something about not liking, subscription services. I always prefer owning sample libraries outright.

Do u know the name of christians new company
@prodratatouille thecrowhillcompany.com
The new version, paid or free, requires a constant internet connection, just a heads up.

Very good point, rather spend the money on something you want then a gamble at what you’re going to get every month
I totally agree.
Same here . Subscription no can do
It feels a bit scummy to me. I always say that everything went downhill after our lord-and-savior Christian Henson left the company

This tidal drift toward everything becoming a subscription must be fought against. Walled gardens suck. That's what's kept me from trying reason.
I totally agre with you. These behaviours must be fought against :-) My firs move is to write these comments today!

I'd be happy to pay a reasonable price once. No subscriptions

Why don't you have subscribers? Your channel is good.
Thanks you ☺️ it takes time but one day we’ll get there!
So, Labs is a subscription now? Ok, then. Why am I not surprised?
But only for the "premium content", or all new libraries, I'm not sure. Those that were already free before will remain so and will continue to be available outside of the subscription. However, I don't know whether new free ones will be added.
I’ve heard their will be some more free once’s but I don’t know how often
@@Joe-blogcomposer Let’s hope together!

@stevesm2010 same :/ I agree with another comment, why call it LABS, leave LABS for the free stuff
