The air left the room....man. I got a call from my friend, I did pick up cause I was with my girl for the holidays. I called him back and he told me. I was in shock then I looked on Twitter n saw the post AEW did and I started to cry a lil....damn.
Before I tell my story, I just wanted to say.....LARRY! Okay now that I got that out my system. I first started watching nL in 2011 when I got into Wrestling watching their SVR 2011 clips. One of those clips had a CAW of Brodie Lee in it. I never knew who he was at the time. A year later, I looked into the NXT Website at the time and I noticed a render of a bearded man (With Glasses, which he never used but I dunno, probably had a gimmick that didn't pan out) who had these eyes like he was buggin like a Mad scientist, he was named Luke Harper. I said to myself, ".....That's a crazy looking dude. I don't know how to feel when that dude makes his debut." He debuted alongside Bray Wyatt, remembered him from that render on the website INSTANTLY. The Wyatt Family then made a huge impact for years and did awesome things in WWE. They had THREE runs! The constant in those runs.....it was always Harper. Harper and Rowan as the Bludgeon Brothers act was also really good and seeing him return in his last short run was a major shocker, as I thought he was never gonna come back after they made him sit out for a while (Which is another rant for another time). I was so happy when he finally left and was able to do more. I'm disappointed he never got another run in the Indies but his run in AEW was so good for the short amount of time he was there. Him and Dark Order's BTE skits were gold and was so entertaining! Lastly, The Fighting back stream. I woke up to finish the replay of the stream when I heard Brodie's voice suddenly come up on the stream. I was so surprised and elated! Such a great personality and just an entertaining voice to listen to as he would speak out what Austin's cards were. Just so hilarious and was just a really good time! Then just when nL was gonna end, Brodie and so many others STILL donated hundreds and hundreds of dollars to the cause. That just tells you alone the kind of guy he was. I was in the nL discord when Brodie won the TNT title from Cody, we were so happy for him! I knew he deserved another championship after everything he been through with the Fed, and it seemed his career was just getting started.... I woke up from a small nap last night, I was getting ready to watch Andrew Everett's Twitch for his Fire Pro Fed show. Suddenly, I saw AEW's tweet on Brodie....I thought it was a troll or something. I thought, "No way, that wouldn't be possible. I knew he was injured but-no, no way! That is not possible!" Then as more people were talking about it and then Brodie's wife on IG explained what happened, I realized it was true. I was processing it for a good bit from last night to today. It was just so shocking and sad to hear. He was a great Wrestler and then to boot, hearing the stories from all the wrestlers about him on Social Media as a friend and as a family man, told me how special the man, Jonathan Huber truly was. Brodie, we miss you already man! Thank you for everything! It was the best, it truly was. RIP
It’s awful that we have lost a great one, but it’s nice to see the whole wrestling community come together to pay their respects, even with WWE and AEW commenting on each other’s posts about him.
I felt like Crying when Newlegacyinc heard about his Death then tears were pouring when Brodie didn't stop Donating to Fighting Back 😢 Pictures with his wife & son, friends & wrestlers Luke Harper,Brodie Lee,Jon Huber R.I.P 🙏😔
We're entering three years since we lost Jon and the world really does feel like a worse place without him. Always exalted and always missed, his legacy will never fade not just from what he did in the ring but by being such a funny, selfless, and genuine person outside of it.
Brodie redefined what it meant to be a gentle giant. Even though a lot of us didn't personally know him, I believe we could tell what kind of person he was through any of his interactions with other people. I'm sure he's resting in peace.
Hearing their reaction and instantly flashing back to being at work and finding out and just freezing in place. 2 days later I'm still gutted. Brodie was a great wrestler and a damn near perfect performer. Rip Big Rig
Man it’s crazy to think Brodie was a part of my childhood for half of my life already (I’m almost 18 now) and he was one of my favorite wrestlers to watch and was one of those guys I was wanting to meet. Seemed like such a nice guy. When I heard the news I felt like a part of my childhood died. He was a big part of my childhood and he’ll be missed. I had to put this in here but also when I heard it I didn’t want it to be real. A lot of me was wanting to think this was a storyline but I knew that wasn’t the case.
I only now found this. I went to a house show around 2017-18 in Fort Myers, and the Bludgeon Brothers were on the card. It was the post-intermission match, so the crowd was dead, but I ate it up. So Brodie gives a little nod towards my section, and I distinctly remember being some 10 rows back, but still on the floor. They faced Anderson and Gallows, and before Anderson tagged out, Brodie nodded towards me. With the match deader than disco, Anderson yelled out "Let's go Gallows!" to get everyone alive. I'm maybe one of 10 or 15 who responds, and he did a small acknowledgement on the apron. All cause Brodie noticed I was maybe the only person there who wanted to see that match. R.I.P. Jon Huber, we hardly knew you, but we loved you like everyone else.
i remember when the Wyatts debuted. At that time, WWE was getting stale, but the gimmicks of Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper and Eric Rowan worked because they made them work. So scary were the Wyatts.
I remember watching an UpUpDownDown tournament that Brodie had participated im, amd that was the first time I ever saw him as himself, and instantly I saw such a cool, friendly guy who would do anything to make the days of those around him so much better. Rest easy big dog.
They were able to turn a payday stream into a brodie Lee tribute in just 2 minutes after finding out he passed away, massive respect for the nl boys and r.i.p Jon Huber.
The most sucky part about his death was it was the day after Christmas. Spends it with his wife and kids, and then gone the next day. I have massive respect for Cody Rhodes and AEW to retire that belt permanently for Brodie.
I know this is late comment boys, but Brodie/Jon was one of my favorite big agile men either AEW or WWe , so seeing him troll Austin is perfect 😂 but fly high Jon, we will miss you man!
Honestly thought it was a joke. For an entire hour I had myself convinced it wasn't true. And then more and more tributes came out and I was just lost. RIP Mr. Brodie Lee. Thank you for always being so interesting to watch on camera and, from how it sounds, a wonderful person to boot. Just as devastating as Eddie Guerrero, man.
Wow, the beginning hits home. I was like the same way when I found out, I was a huge supporter of him and was so damn happy that he was getting a chance to shine after WWE. It still sucks to know how young and way out of left field to know he passed.
R.i.p brodie lee you left us ton of great memorable funny memories you will live on through your family friends and fans You will live on in all of us we all miss you
Duels reaction was exactly mine when the news broke. From what I heard and saw on nL, Brodie was not only an awesome wrestler, but also an awesome dude. We love you, Brodie. "Yeah, yeah, yeah!"
I may not have been a mega super fan of brodie, and I didn't know him obviously, but the stories I've heard of how much of a friend to all he was and how sudden it was.... Damn. Thank you brodie
17:19 hopefully we do some more stuff soon🥺😪 so sad NL will never have a opportunity like that with him again, Earth lost a great man but heaven gained a angel 👼❤️
The first time I heard of Brodie's passing, I saw it as a post from Newlegacyinc with the screenshot of his discord comment. I actually thought that maybe it was from a game they were playing (like in EWR or an mDickie game because characters can die in that) because it sounded too unreal for Brodie to die, as young as he was, as huge of a star as he was, being in the prime of his career...then I read more of that post and figured out the unfortunate news that was indeed real life. I may not have ever met him in person and can't say anything about him as a person (though from what I have heard from everyone that he's ever interacted with that he was an overwhelmingly pleasant and intelligent person and he loved his family and loved pro wrestling and was a very selfless man), but as a performer, I can easily say that he had an amazing amount of talent and diversity. He looked like a brawler, and looked like a powerhouse, but he was also quite agile for a man his size. He easily was underrated in his WWE career as Luke Harper, but as a character, he was very unique there. Then when I saw him on AEW, I knew he was gonna be a breakout star there. The segment where he won the TNT Championship was one of the greatest segments I got to witness as it happened, and I will forever remember it because of how impactful it was in cementing the Mr. Brodie Lee character as a badass, dangerous, and ruthless force to be reckoned with in AEW. It is very heartbreaking to go back and watch the match where he lost the TNT Championship because of the knowledge that it was last, but it was an amazing match to end his career on, and it was a classic. At least he ended on such a high note, but it's a damn shame that it ended so early. RIP John Huber/Luke Harper/Mr. Brodie Lee. I was a big fan rooting for him to make it in WWE since the summer I went to college when he debuted on the main roster. It's still hard to believe that him dying actually happened.
What an amazing video to relive. The moments of brodie and the tribute. NewLegacy was incredible. R I P BRODIE LEE (JON HUBER) You will never be forgotten.
The worst part of knowing what happened is the stream happened like right before he supposedly got sick. I saw reports of his lung illness began right after the dog collar match which was in October. And the video says 4 months ago as of my phone. So damn. They was some of the last of the public to hear from Brodie lee. This is sad to think about
God I remember this night/morning. I was already feeling sick, non rona ways, but I just happened to finish dinner with my wifes fam and I just happened to pull up twitter on my phone and first thing is AEW's post about Brodie Lee's passing. I couldnt sleep, I stayed up the entire night drinking, probably wasnt the best idea but I didnt know what else to do. Stayed up hearing and reading stories of how an amazing man he was for not only for his work, but being a family man. No one said any bad things about him which was humbling. RIP Brodie Lee
