8:30 from my experience, a lot people in the cities in Korea know a little bit of English but the majority of people are not fluent and/ or don’t know any English at all. I would say younger people and service workers are more likely to know English but I didn’t really meet any native Koreans who were fluent. It can seem like they have a high fluency rate when their English test scores are high, but test scores don’t mean much when it comes to actual conversational English.

8:16 No wes the English literacy and fluency rate is not very high is sk. The schools in sk are tough but English is just an optional language and only the GOOD and TOP students who score highest marks are fluent in English actually. I mean if you never have interacted with anyone in English besides studying it in as your elective subject then I am sure it makes sense why you are not fluent. People are more fluent in Japanese and even Chinese than English in sk.
36:00 - Okay, so the white circular flat thing that he uses to wrap the cooked kimchi and meat is a thinly sliced pickled radish. As for the cut of meat, from what I can tell, it looks like samgyeopsal which are thick cuts of pork belly meat.
As for foods to try on your K-foods adventure, I would totally start with Korean snacks. If you have an HMart near you, I would definitely stock up on snacks there like Honey Butter Chips, Choco pie, Yakgwa, Bungeoppang (with the red bean filling), Chalddeok, and if you can get your hands on some tteokboki, "Korean Hotdog", or japche, they are all classic street and snacks!!!

Jungkook loves cooking so much, so he chose the cooking department in the army. He cooks with a small group of people and is definitely the best cook in the army 👨🍳💜
So many articles were written about JK choosing the cooking job, koreans are really endeared since his recipes went viral before

sorry Wes, you couldn't be more wrong. The English fluency in SK is really low. Their students can certainly take tests and pass exams but they have very little fluency outside their textbooks. that's why RM's fluency is no mean feat especially for someone who is born and raised in SK and never spent a long time outside the country before joining Bangtan.
Spiral potato fries is the one you called onion on a stick..I dunno whether the orgin was Korea or some other place..but those exist in my country too..and it is my go-to when I go to a mall

Its knetz who make big fuss about too much English lyrics.
8:05 hmmm in gen, Korean gp aka the adults DOES NOT care for 'idol music' which is what is called k-pop overseas. they do tend to lean towards k-soloists with a melancholy style or full on western artist with English songs. so the one's who do listen to k-pop dont really care what % of language it's composed of.
however a good portion of their younger population do care for k-pop which obvs reflects on the charts. and honestly ive never seen them complain, they just want it to be catchy. if we trace back lyrics of popular k-pop songs it's a lottttt of nonsensical onomatopoeias and random english phrases thrown in to rhyme. when it comes to idol music, idt the lyrics are the draw for most k-pop stans unlike ARMYs😭
however there is a new contingent of intl k-pop stans who HATE the incr of eng in songs cuz according to their xenophobic asses "if I wanted to listen to an english song, id listen to American songs" some weirdos want k-pop to have that 'fetishistic exotic oriental feel' which is just 🤢 but outside of that crowd, the incr of eng lyrics doesnt really bother ppl.
k-fans practise the eng pronunciation for fanchants just like we used to for Korean lyrics😂 everyone is just trying their best but they always end up butchering and mumbling thru Korean lyrics😂 so i personally LOVE the incr of English lyrics, makes it so much easier to sing along at cons.

Haters were dragging him that he sang in English.
But he is still charting on top after 5 months. Its shows that people really like his voice in both languages.
This vlog is the whole reason I HAD to try Sotteok Sotteok (the rice cake sausage skewers) asap when I visited Korea lol
35:03 well you definitely have to try tteokbokki! :) and my personal fav is Kimchi Jeon (a hearty kimchi pancake basically). I'm not from the US but I've seen a lot of videos where people in the US go to k-marts, do you have one near you? Or you could look for a "bbq chicken" place - it's a Korean fried chicken chain and they have stores here too so I'm sure there are some in the US too!
This is definitely a comfort rewatch for me, whenever I feel down or miss the boys I watch these vlogs but especially this one🤍💜

8:29 I'm not too sure about that tbh. Ofc English literacy is more than speaking but when I was there it was hard to even find young(er) people who felt confident in speaking English (everyone was still very nice or tried to help you). A Korean guy (mid 20s) I got to talk to told me English is mostly an elective when you're in high school (the first foreign language they learn is Japanese) and even then they don't practice speaking much. He said that's why there is not as much of a difference in fluency in English between generations as there is in other countries

Just a bit of context since you guys seemed confused: when he was talking about calling close friends by their familiy names, the 2 friends he mentioned are Mingyu, who is also an idol from a group called Seventeen and Kim Jongyu is V's younger brother

@@lela1002 Taehyung thanked his siblings in one of the bts albums and that's when we discovered his name is Kim Jongyu. Although V protects them a lot, korean fans know he's about Jk's age. It's no surprise he's friends with Jk, considering V and Jk are very close

SUGA played both piano and guitar in his solo concerts last year.
Jin has played piano for Epiphany during the Love Yourself tour, and Jin played guitar in an acoustic version of a medley of Boy In Luv, Danger, and I Need U, with Jimin and V also on vocals with him.
V learned sax before BTS (played it in his audition, actually). He was learning trumpet for a while (on In the Soop: 2), but he is now playing sax again. He played a little bit o it for one of his Layover performance videos.
Jimin plays guitar, at least a little. He plays one song on piano. 😂
RM played guitar for ARMY on one of his last livestreams before enlistment. Shocked us all. 🤣 😂
JK does play drums. There is a Dynamite performance for which he plays them. He also plays a little guitar.
j-hope plays recorder (with his nose 😂). I don’t think we have seen him play any instruments other than that??
Also, my daughter visited Korea last year, and we went in the tour to the second In the Soop location. Part of the tour was also to stop at the same destination area as JK did in this vlog (and also the shooting location for the cover of the “You Never Walk Alone - the bus stop). We were able to choose either sotteok-sotteok and tornado potatoes as a snack. We each picked one and then we shared. I loved the potato. My daughter loved the sotteok-sotteok.
There was a camping area right by the bus stop shooting location. I doubt he camped there, though, because a lot of fans visit that bus stop for pictures. But yeah, it was a few hours ride on the bus to get to the beach we went to.

Some stores that sell Korean food are H mart or 99 ranch (Asian grocery really) in the us also most regular grocery stores have Korean ramen at least. If you can’t find one of those I would just see if there are any local Asian grocers in your area bc the usually have a couple of Korean items. :D

Thing on a stick you thought was pastry is a tornado potato. You can find them in North America often a fairs or food trucks etc. You can also make them but they are a lot of work. You were right white things with sausage is ricd cake and sausage the name is a combination of tteok and sausage. It has a sweet spicy sauce over it. The meat cut is pork belly so yes essentially the same part of the pig as bacon but not cured or smoked. Thd white thing hd was wrapping it is is a dikon radish and if often pickled. I can't remember if you had any more food questions but you can always ask I love talking about food 😂

It depends where you get your ears pierced. My niece has her loaves Piers three times with those circle earrings that you get at the tattoo parlor, and she sleeps with those in because they’re hard to take off but if you have the top of your ear or like even inside your ear pierce, you have to sleep with them in.

Jimin and Jungkook had the best vlogs, and this camping vlog just makes it even more exciting that we are getting a whole travel show with camping and exploring with jimin and jungkook filmed in America and Japan, they are the two closest members so the fact we are getting a show that they chose to film before enlisiting together is so special
