Thanks for this. I was going to publish my hardcover magnum opus on IS for wide distribution (schools and libraries). I've been publishing on B&N for my personal projects. This convinces me to go with B&N and Amazon first.

Hearing this makes me so happy, Michelle! All these platforms also offer ebook distribution, but they do work a bit differently. For example, KDP offers a book promotion tool (KDP Select) that does limit our distribution during the time we are enrolled in it. Thanks for the super informative video, Eevi! When promoting our book, do you think we should direct people to Ingram Spark instead of KDP for the higher royalty? I’m wondering if it might be more beneficial to have the Amazon traffic and KDP sales, seeing as though people are more likely to search for a book on Amazon than Ingram Spark.
Hi Shane! Absolutely! Amazon's algorithm is definitely something we will want to keep in mind, especially when we first launch our book! I personally still mostly use my Amazon links ALONG with the direct IS links for my hardcovers.

I published a CPB on KDP in both eBook and paperback formats. Initially, I didn't enable the "expanded distribution" option, but I later learned that this is necessary for libraries to purchase it. Now, I'm considering changing the front cover to make it more vibrant and colorful.
When I upload the revised version with the new cover on KDP, is it possible to remove the "expanded distribution" option? After watching your insightful video, I thought the best option for me is to publish it with B&N after KDP, and then move forward with IS.
Also, is it accurate that libraries are unable to purchase our books if the expanded distribution isn't enabled? I would greatly appreciate your response.

Hi Gail! Thank you so much for your kind words. This means so much to me! The expanded distribution within KDP can be disabled any time. Just note that it might take a couple of weeks/ months to "clear the system," so I would go ahead and do so now, so that once you are ready to set up your expanded distribution via other channels (e.g. IS), there won't be any problems. And it can definitely be helpful to enable others to order our book beyond just Amazon, so setting up expanded distribution options (whether that's via KDP or IS) would definitely be helpful. So is it best to do Paperback on Amazon, Paperback & Hardcover on B&N, and then Paperback, Hardcover, Ebook on Ingram spark with expanded distribution so the hardcover and ebook are available on Amazon too?

Appreciate your videos! I have a more unique issue. I just self-printed a kid’s board book that is a cookbook. And had an ebook created as well. Is there a way to link the Amazon KDP ebook version to a FBA account that will sell the hardcopy? How can I sell board book version along with ebook version on same page/platform or link?

So for highest royalty rate: 1) KDP internal THEN 2) B&N expanded distribution for hardcover using standard color and Then 3) Ingram spark internal? question - can you order an author's copy with the standard color on B&N before publishing to see if you like the quality?

Do libraries only accept hardcover editions? If so, do they get books from Barnes & Noble, Ingram Spark or both? Thank you again for all these extremely helpful videos!
I have seen paperbacks in libraries before, but I do believe hardcovers are preferred, mainly because they are more durable. And when it comes to ordering books, Ingram is often preferred.

You're so welcome, Lisa! That would depend on the different options you choose (paper and ink) and also the use of colors within your book. Some authors share that they see a difference, while others say they don't. But you can always just have a test copy sent your way and then make a decision based on that.
I get the order of the KDP, B&N, and then Ingram Spark and the reasoning behind it. Does it go by the date you hit “publish” or the date you set for the release date? Do you recommend ‘not’ doing them the same day, to make sure there are no issues that have to be fixed before release, let’s say on KDP? I don’t want to hit Publish on each of the platforms same day and then not have it in the right order because I had to go back and fix something. Hope this makes sense.
The date that is important is the day it goes live. For example, when we hit publish, it can take up to 72 hours to go live. But if we set a specific publishing date in the future, the date seems to be more accurate (i.e. no 72 hour lag). So I always recommend publishing it on KDP first, wait until it actually appears on Amazon, then B&N, then IS. I so hope this helps.
Hi Eevi. Is there an option to disable expanded distribution in B&N and wait to clear the system before trying to publish it on ingramspark again? I couldn’t find where the option for expanded distribution is on Barnes and Noble Press.
Hi Hong! I don't believe B&N offers expanded distribution as of right now, beyond their own website + Nook. So if IngramSpark has informed you that your book is already available under your ISBN, you might have enabled expanded distribution over on KDP. If you would like to use IS's expanded distribution instead, you will first have to turn off expanded distribution on KDP, wait a few months, and they try uploading it again over on IS. @@EeviJones Thank you for your response. My KDP expanded distribution is not enabled. IngramSpark mentioned it was Nook LLC and that Nook is using the IngramSpark distribution system, or something along those lines. So, I just deleted my book on B&N and will wait until the ISBN becomes available again. Not sure if this is something new or not.

When you refer to page counts, normally when we write things, one page counts as 2 because each side of the page is numbered. When you are referring to minimum page counts for book does that work the same way or does it mean that 1 physical page only counts as one page? I hope that makes sense.

I saw that IS charges authors $3.50 per book ordered directly through their new marketing link. What are your thoughts on this and how it affects royalties?
