Another terrific video and terrific song! When I was a little kid, my parents would say they were going downtown when they'd go to Escolta. My father preferred to go there even though we lived in Makati. It was convenient to go to QUAD and Rizal Theater but he still brought my mom to the Lyric theater to watch Saturday Night Fever!
Wow! Thanks for sharing that nostalgic story @ EverythingClassic. Lakas maka reminisce ng mga nabanggit mo. Pls keep it coming for the younger viewers. They’re so much interested reading some small accounts from past. 🙏🇵🇭
Thank you very much @ kabayan Vince Treyes for the appreciation. Hope you liked the other videos as well in the Beata channel. They’re all classics. Stay safe kabayan. 🙂🙏🇵🇭
Best memories the moral values of Filipinos, preserve dignity integrity honesty and kindness, money is not the priorities friendship more value. I was born in the 2nd world war thank lord I seen the Philippines at its best. Leaders govern by moral unwritten code of ethics. Local officials and teachers, police are great influence of the Philippines society.
Salamat as always @ kabayang Virgilio Gabriel for appreciating the channel. Channel natin tong mga old souls. Keep safe always kabayan and stay Proud Pinoy. 🙂🙏🇵🇭
Thank you for showing us what downtown manila looked like during my Grandparents time. It's like looking at the same areas and places in which that's where they used to shop, work and meet their friends in the 50's and 60's.
No worries @ kabayan Kitty Lozon. Nakaka nostalgia talaga. Hope makita ng mga old folks mo yan. I’m sure maiiyak sila pag nakita nila ang pasyalan namin noong araw. Ingat kabayan. 🙂🙏🇵🇭
Noong 60s, ang tawag nila sa escolta, sta. Cruz up to quiapo area was downtown. My mom used to say, "pupunta muna ako sa downtown para mamili." So when Petula Clarke's song Downtown became a hit, i realized that downtown was synonymous to a place where one can find everything. But up to now i still wonder why it was called downtown. According to my dad, this was how the Americans called the place because it was the business capital of Manila at that time. Ganoon din daw sa U.S.
That’s right. That exact question hovers my head for the longest time when I was young. As a young kid, I used to hear my folks “ punta tayo sa San fo Downtown, or maraming homeless sa downtown etc… But i enjoyed the sights, “be sure to wear flowers in your hair”… I enjoyed the people and how busy the streets were during those days and I couldn’t care less for as long as I get to go home with my favorite toys. Walang katapusang iyakan makuha lang ang tren trenan at kotse kotsehan. Hahaha. 🙏🇵🇭
Thank u.. 4rm childhood to manhood that used to be my playground. I miss there so mch. Im in between tayuman & blum. 96 ako umalis ng manila.i still miss there time to time.
75yrs old na ako, d2 na siguro ako mag ppas away Hindi ko puedeng kalimutan ang mnl, na kkalungkot lang gunitain ang nakaraan, mahal ko pa rin ang pilipinas!!&
Before the growth of other Metro Manila cities, Manila was the Center of Education, Local Trade, Business, Churches, Medical Hospitals, Restos, Chinatown, Government, Import and Export, Movie Houses and Live Theaters, 24 hour Aristocrat Restaurant along Roxas Boulevard. I watched the decay of Rizal Avenue when they built the elevated LRT stations as the stores loss more customers. Quiapo Church and Sta. Cruz Church, Plaza Miranda before it was bombed by the Anti Christ founder of CPP NDF NPA crazy 🤪🤪🤪 UP ka-Diliman History Professor Jose Maria Canlas Sison.
Jeepneys then were 8-seater including the driver which was our mode of transportation in going to and from elementary school. And the good thing, we were not squeezed to fit additional passengers like if 8 passengers including driver, no more passengers were accepted unlike now where additional passengers are squeezed in even though let's say the 14 seats including driver were already filled up.
The irony for me is i have seen so many places in the Philippines, have worked in METRO MANILA,but would you believe?,i have never been in ESCOLTA,I WONDER WHY?.
