The book is extraordinary. I read it for the first time in the '70s when I was a teen ager and re-read it periodically ever 10 years or so. The 1973 movie adaptation is highly rated, but it still does not compare to the book. It was Forsyth's first book, he had been a correspondent for Reuters and really knew the material. He made a 3-book deal with the publisher. Jackal was first, The Odessa File was 2nd, The Dogs of War was 3rd. The Odessa File is also an extraordinary novel. It was made into a movie with Jon Voight in the lead, playing a young German writer who infiltrates Odessa, the secret organization that shielded Nazi war criminals and provided them with new identities and helped them move to and settle in South America to escape arrest and prosecution. The movie was also very good. Dogs of War was not quite as good as the first two, IMO, but a very good read nonetheless. It was made into a movie starring a young Christopher Walken.
Yes and there are actually many tributes to the Bruce Willis version... I won't mention but they go from small details to pretty obvious and story beats.
First thing 2 movie adaptation the day of the jackal and the jackal 1990’s with Bruce Willis. But apart from that this was a great video and you have a new subscriber 😊
@WhatsWorthWatching Was not joking, but did not want to read as negative, so add joky tone. I really do not care about spy stuff and action, and really appreciated you informing me up top. I arrived here because of YT algorithm, I like to check in on low view or fresh videos.
Nice review. I’d be down for S2, but it needs to stop there. Jackal needs to ended by the finale with no S3. Him getting away all of S1 was already a stretch.
what were your main issues with the finale? I didnt like how we didnt see how he made it to land and i didn't think the final car crash was needed. Other than that i enjoyed it
@WhatsWorthWatching Don't want to give spoilers, but It was a bit too unrealistic, chaotic escape from man with utter patience, warning phonecall and mostly why would 2 agents even think that they can take most skilled assassing alive in his domain. Overall it's worth watching ofc.
@WhatsWorthWatching the way she acted after each person died in that informants family, kinda with a smirk that she got her way even though the collateral was devastating... Basically a whole family wiped out. But I just watched the last episode last night and I guess she says it herself.... She likes to win (even when it costs others). So I guess it was intentional.
I love how everyone ignores the Bruce Willies one lol
the book's author doesnt want it associated with his work so i think thats fair haha
@WhatsWorthWatching Yeah it was not great and should have just been its own thing.
watched it full yesterday with a quick shower break. waiting for season 2!
thats some real dedication haha. glad you enjoyed it
Loved the show!😊
me too! glad you had fun with it
Will you be tuning in for season 2???
Absolutely! This series was absolutely quality. The finale was abit of a let down but I’m looking forward to season 2.

Hearing a lot of good things about the book! Appreciate your insight
There was another adaptation with Bruce Willis as the jackal.
just had a quick google and saw it was a loose adaption. I wasn't aware of this. Thanks for the info!
@WhatsWorthWatching Not as loose as this series here though ;)

ah yes, wasnt sure whether to count the Bruce Willis film as I read that the book author didn't want it associated with his work! Thanks though :D
excellent,
Thnx for the up top warning, I actively hate both action and spy-stuff ;)
i can't tell if ur joking or not haha

@@paradoxregina ah ok fair enough!! its not for everyone. thanks for stopping by anyway :)
The book is excellent, the 70s movie is stellar imo
i may have to give it a watch then!

thanks! yes i agree. I don't want it to overstay its welcome. keep it short & sweet
I have a hard time believing i'll get through season 1.
oh damn! Well if you're not enjoying it after the first few episodes then it probably won't win you over. Can't like everything!
Last episode was a mess
first 3 episodes were great

Found Bianca terribly unlikable. Watching her parts amounted to suffering to get to the good parts.
seems quite a common opinion! Why did you find her unlikeable?

There is only one movie and that's the original. This version is rubbish as was the Bruce willis version. Leave it alone.
Are you high? No, just no.
