I still remember my middle school mascot was a male lion! We had a mascot costume for it but it never had a name. It was only for school games and pep rallies. The costume was kept either in the principal's office or whichever teacher was gonna wear it. I cannot tell you how many times I longed to wear him! Granted, I was a only a 9 year old kid and it wouldn't have fit me but it looked so much fun to mascot!! I would always get jealous of whoever got to wear it because, while everyone wears a suit differently and they likely aren't used to it, they never showed much enthusiasm. They'd just stand there and sit around. Not much interaction with the school spirit... That is a key moment that haunts the back of my mind every time I put on my fursuits. When I fursuit, I always try give it my 100% to show any kind of emotion and gestures to anyone, kind of like how our sports mascots move around and interact with their environment.
Thank you for giving me first-hand insight! Ever since I started traveling to the U.S., I was fascinated that virtually every school has at least a nickname and many a costumed version of their mascot. That's something I miss over here in Europe. How much I would have loved to be a mascot during my Elementary/High School time! It's interesting to hear that at your school, the teachers were the mascot performers. I would have assumed that task is usually given to one of the students (at least on high school-level where most students would actually fit into costume) Bonus points for going to a LIONS school - my species is the KING of them all:) And you're right, a mascot costume or fursuit is what the performer makes of it. Even a stock costume can be unique by the way it's being performed. Having a mascot is virtually useless if you don't have a passionate performer that goes the extra mile in interacting with people and represent your school at each and every opportunity. I've been studying and personally witnessing the NHL mascots a lot and even on that level, the quality between performers varies a lot. There's some like Gritty that wouldn't interact with fans on a personal level a lot and then there's individuals like Stanley C. Panther, Gnash or Hunter that go out of their way to spend a lot of time with fans, trying their best to be everyone's friend and be very patient with children. Mascots like these understand the real magic and joy of mascotting. They aren't just brand ambassadors, they're here to entertain us and create lasting memories by being easily approachable.

Great video! It was pretty cool to see what an Alanco mascot costume looks like an hear somebody talk about one. Mascoting is super fun to do, or Cosplay. I actually have a Master Tigress suit and it so fun to wear! I've done so much mascoting for various events or birthday parties and I always have a great time doing it!
I honestly think mascotting is one of the most wonderful performing arts. Without saying one single word, you can make a lasting impact and a positive difference with so many people. You can make a child's day as much you can make your grandparents smile. Hugs and gestures are universal language across the world. And yay for your tiger suit. The mascots people can most identify and relate with are almost always felines, canines, bears or birds. These make the best, most huggable and adorable characters!
I love Pouncer so much Kitwana! Very adorable! I would love to meet you at a convention someday! Loved the unboxing and the rest of your videos I'm a long time fan! 😊❤️💕 Keep up the great work!!
Thank you so much! I do plan to take Pouncer to a con eventually (want to find a Size 60 Panthers jersey for him first) and I do hope our paths will cross someday. Thank you for being my fan, means a lot!
@KitwanaLion You're very welcome!! I'm always supporting you no matter what you always brighten up my day when I see new content from you & your positively and love you spread to all! I really hope we do meet one day as well! Would love to ask for a big hug with your permission of course! My favorites for sure are suiting/mascotting and your plushie videos! I'm very excited to see more and I hope you have a wonderful day or night!! 😊💕
This ain't meant to be a mascots vs. fursuit debate. Both have their advantages and disadvantages and both can be highly complex and professional. At the end of the day, both bring equal joy to the people around them and that's the main thing. I love my fursuits just as much as my new Panther mascot!
@@glamrockfoxy6667 If I could change one thing, it would be mixing a bit of silver paint into the backs of the eyes so they catch the light a bit better. The acrylic eyes kind of look like black holes under most lighting, that was a problem when I built Baragon.
This is so amazing! You look great in it. Love the video and that thing. The only mascot item I have of my high school is a ball cap with the Indian logo on it. Amazing Lion King merch collection! Keep up the awesome job. HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Humanoids don't make really good mascots IMO. People love felines, canines, bears and birds the most. A good mascot is one of these, features a lot of fur and a high huggability factor, combined with a passionate performer. HNY to you as well!
@KitwanaLion Too bad my hs mascot isn't an animal like bears, lions, cats etc. NQHS (my high school) has the Indian brandishing a tomahawk. Of course, native American mascots are common here around the Boston area. Thanks and hope your new year goes well for ya.
Oh, haha:) I'm not sure, I can't walk across seats, stand on railings, run down stairs and perform for 3 hours straight like he does:) I'm happy I can move around in a mascot costume and spread some joy. I do know Stanley's current main performer, though. Very fine, wholesome person, a true sweetheart. Went the extra mile so many times for me over the past 2 years. He performs Stanley and develops his character in the best way possible, always making sure he spends a lot of time with fans, very patient and adorbs to children as well, great community presence. I think the Panthers are better off with him than me;)
Go for your dreams! Mascotting is hard, physical work, but incredibly rewarding and one of the most wonderful performing arts that makes so many people smile!
Looking good Mr kitwana ❤

What a way to start a new year with a new milestone and new costume. Great work, Kitwana!!!
Great video and great review. The costume looks wonderful!
!Wow man, that's cool, I loved it, oh I almost forgot, happy new year!😃❤️
I'm so happy to hear you love Pouncer as much as I do! Happy New Year!
Hey, you put the video description in Portuguese (BR) and a Brazilian dubbing, just to understand you? How do you know I'm Brazilian?🤨😳@@KitwanaLion

I saw what you look like with out the fursuit and you are special man 🙏😊
Aww! I'm not any more or less special than any other individual:)
Your okay
That's a nice start to the year.
