Man, I think I would have given up my right arm to be there for this. I wish I'd known about it. This lineup of Gold City was the first Southern Gospel music I ever listened to, and I've listened to them all since, and these guys are just the greatest ever.
i was part of a gospel quartet and sang when i get carried away as the first song (i was the tenor) after not being part of that quartet for about 5 months the group had come to sing at the church and i was singing along with my pastor who replaced me. Little did i know the original tenor was sitting right behind me and said you should be up there. ;) little did he know i sang with them for about 4 months Hahaha
This is my favorite line up. But these guys are STILL awesome with their own groups and everything. (: bye thanks for putting the up here LOVE the video!! (:
this lineup should make a new cd. it's amazing that after all of those years of not singing together they can go up on stage and sound tighter than many of the new groups. man what if they actually practice? lol
@Hawkeye315 You are correct but there is 1 morereason as well. The other reason to cup the ears is to pitch to the other singers. Even the best and has bad tones and cupping the ear even with the in ear monitors working right.
I was just reading the comments and I think they did an awesome job. The band too! I heard NOTHING wrong with it....they did amazing! If y'all can't say anything nice don't say anything at all!! They did great. End of story.
For not having had time to practice, these guys did a great job singing and Ivan isn't off he just stretches the notes out a little more than when he originally sang Midnight Cry. I don't find Brian flat at all. LinesuponURface, I know you're more familiar with the new group, but there is no denying Gods spirit flows through these singers when they sing together like no other gospel quartet. I'm sure the current Gold City group would also agree.
It is perfectly acceptable to complain NOT about the music, because this lineup of Gold City is great on even their worst day, but because the stage crew and musicians these guys were depending on but who had no more vested in this than any other gig--well, they must not get much work if this is any indication of their work ethics. Don't y'all see how Tim kept covering his ears? The monitors alone must have been deafening.
@TheDingoes8mybaby He's not covering his ears...he's cupping his hands over his ears to hear himself. Deep notes get lost with all the other higher singers and instruments. Bass vocalists will do that a lot, even with in ear monitors, and from what I could tell, Tim wasn't wearing any in-ears.
So, there is nothing good that can be said about this? I'm just saying... everybody is a critic and always knows what should have been done. I am just glad they were able to get together. Brings back a lot of memories. Wish they could have done more. You hear what you want to hear and see what you want to see. I hear songs with anointing and people that can sings with anointing. Somebody will probably complain if Gabriel's trumpet is out of tune, if they even hear it.
@mjdewalt I've been waiting for this FOREVER TOO! But there won't be any DVD from this nightmare. They took a bunch of studio musicians hobbling through the songs, combined with a production crew that couldn't even provide mics to the singers on cue. Then the singers (maybe because of all that) did the worst job of their lives. If there's a DVD, it would have to have almost EVERYTHING re-done in the studio. WHERE'S THE ORIGINAL BAND WITH GARY JONES??? BOOOOOOOOO!!!!
@gHoStsOfTheHollow Maybe if you had been there, you'd know how much a vocal/instrumental disaster this was. Not even saying it's the fault of the performers -- but somewhere in the production/performance chain, a would-be great event was screwed up royally. Even God probably had a choice word or two for this, given the talent he provided. This GC lineup and the bands they had 20 years ago were a ga-zillion times better than this. But those with low standards probably don't wanna' hear it...
@JakesMuzik Yeah!!! Where are the original GC band members??? The band sounds like s**t. Plus the singers are definitely not "on". Ivan is struggling BIG-TIME in Midnight Cry :) :) :)

would love to see the original Inspirations Quartet do one too.. (Watkins,Burns,Hutchins,Laws)
Brian had pitch problems starting at the key change in When I Get Carried Away and all through the rest of the video.
The singers sound so unbelievable nervous during this whole thing!!!

Thumbs up for Tim Riley nailing a sustained & clear G1 at 07:51
He's the best!

If you have a problem with is maybe you should pray about it. Just a thought.
The best lineup is Jay, Jonathan, Mark, and Tim
