Awesome to get your insight on the budget tools. Would love to see more, and not just copy stuff. Cheaper tools like einhell or bruckhe that are "legit".
Here in Mexico, many brands of Chinese tools arrive that we call disposable and sometimes some arrive with names like Makoto or Duolt and sometimes you even see pirated tools with names like Dewalt or Makita and yes the Chinese make tools with the quality that you request
Hola Chico! Well, that's quite interesting information which I totally agree... I have teared down Makita DTD172 from Romania, one from UK and one from Japan... Interesting finding was that all got same carcass, but rotor and hammer from Japan was more heavier and bulkier, however i would go around from tools made in Romania not because of low quality, but inner parts felt like it was assembled with less attention.
Besides changing the chuck what upgrades do you have in mind? If you want to upgrade the motor and controller you might as well buy a better drill to start off.
For a serious tool users this isn’t worth much, but for the majority or people who are going to buy this and take it out of the closet every couple of months to assemble furniture or hang some shelves, a drill like this is plenty. Of course a name brand from a hardware store is going to last many times longer, but a lot of people won’t even wear out something like this. 12:00 There was a sales rep from one of the cheaper R/C car brand visiting the local hobby shop, he told a story about going to China to hash out the details for the radios they were going to use; a bunch of OEMs were located in this one industrial park, and all of their offices lead into the same giant factory. You could buy the basic radio, that they all get from one supplier, or for a certain price they’ll change the color, add your stickers, or even mold your logo into the case to make it look less generic. Having something like that seemed more premium before you could buy the virtually identical radio gear from a half-dozen different sellers on Amazon or AliExpress. You’ll see the same thing will drills and screwdrivers and a bunch of other things.
Psogpone? I am convinced our Shenzhen friends have a Scrabble game, and when they need a name for an Amazon item they randomly pull eight to twelve letter tiles from the box and quickly arrange them into a word that *could maybe* be English--but don't count on it.
One thing that I've noticed first with audio and video cables, then with rest of computer cables, and now with drills is the optimization for looks: People like to see a "metal" chuck, so they make it look metal, and inexperienced people won't be able to tell them apart from the good ones.
There's also a social factor as well. People want other people to think they have the expensive stuff even if some of them intuitively know it's the knock-off version. You see this a lot with fake iPhones and Rolexes and Nike shoes, even.
This is a prime example of how bass ackwards things have been growing. This drill took the same carbon footprint to make as a reasonably built drill, only to fail 99% of it's customers prematurely and end up in a landfill. Damn thing didn't even look lubricated. And we wonder why mother nature thinks we're idiots. Thanks, Dean. A pleasure as usual.
Great example why Amazon is so cheap, they sell no good products. I got DeWalt 899 impact wrench , as customer return/warranty repaired for €100 , it was little dirty and dewalt name worn, but has brand new hammer case, not even a scratch on it, Dean repaired one of those last year, with factory fault, one extra ballbearing ball in wrong place.
Thanks for the tear down. I was hoping you found us a cheap gem in the wild, but the immediately broken chuck doesn't bode well for the rest of it. I've owned many drills and I've never actually managed to break a chuck.
You sometimes see these cheap look-a-like drills at markets. A Home user friend bought one, it was garbage. So I convinced him to buy a genuine Makita eight years ago - He still uses it now, it just works.
I have had a similar lousy drill. makita copy. chuck was equally rubbish. locked up and that's it. it said "brushless" but it was a tiny brushed motor inside. could even see the sparks from the vents haha. the batteries were the standard 5s2p, verified with multimeter (showed 18V) and stripped down to confirm that it was ten cells in total. But the battery packs was branded as 36V. The drill came with two batteries (reasonable quality) and a charger (rudimentary). Honestly, it was a lousy product - but for non professional use, definitely cheap and cheerful. The mislabeling was a turn off though.
Dean, I notice that that you quite pleased with this budget drill's Brushless motor and control board. If you have some time, could you show how to convert old brushed tools into brushless with these reasonable priced motors, on some odd ball tools that come across your bench instead of condemning them due to lack of available manufacturer parts. Thanks always.
Ya.... No! Lol. How are you going to do that when every motor and clamshell is designed to fit together. You would have to do some intense modification and probably some fabrication to make any brushless motor fit any random clamshell...
That is simply wrong. All that is needed is to make sure that the gear on the motor meshes with the transmission, even swapping out the one from a brushed motor to the brushless assembly would simple.
It can be simply done. At least for someone with a modicum of intelligence. Packing the shell around the motor with some cheap epoxy putty will surface splendidly. Um.. yes. Lol
Ok you do that and have fun packing out a clamshell with epoxy to make a brushless motor work! Lol. Didnt say its impossible but when motors are under load they need to be tight inside the clam shell so see how that would work for you mr user??????. If you wanna hackjob a Frankenstein impact together that's your prerogative.
Been watching your channel for month since I discovered it by accident, great watching you repairing all types of tools etc. I bought an Excel impact driver for a project, cost £40 (drill only) it’s worked well, completed the project and still going, so that’s a plus, but how well made are they? I’ll never know until you review one 😁
They are DIY tools sold under tools4trade, actual manufacturer unknown. Mine was bought for a project as it was cheaper than hiring, well no after buying battery and charger off eBay but it has held up extremely well and is there for future projects
I would just buy a Makita with a 2 or 3 year warranty it would work out cheaper in the end .interesting to see the teardown Thanks Dean always entertaining
bought a similar looking drill on ali for 28€ , but with a 13mm chuck on it. So far I like it. My unit does not have any spindle lock, and also the spindle can be pressed little bit sideways. But it is a super lightweight and fairly fast and strong drill. Also the motor and electronics seem to be fairly robust.
Glad ya leaving Dewalt alone today. That probably came out of Makita factory. Please do something similar for Ingco tools just for intrest sake. We are been flooded here in South Africa as they are so cheap that folks consider them use and throw tools cheap and tearfullllllllllll.
I bought a cheap drill to have around the house that takes Makita batteries off of Amazon, was around 12 quid or so. Useful since I have a Makita vacuum at home and torches and inverters etc for camping that all work off my Makita batteries. For the price can't argue when all it's done is hang the odd picture or shelf. "Hammers" well enough, plenty of power, but my god the chuck spins the gear box and it's a tooless chuck, always have to use the thing to strip the skin off your hands to get a bit in and out of it
2:31 one thing of note about the weight test, these cheap chinesium power tools is to make them FEEL more premium they put lead weights in them i've seen it time & time again with chinese brushless angle grinders.
The Mellif drill is same price if not a bit cheaper but much better quality. I have two and use the heck out of them, screws, small holes big holes in wood and aluminium they do it all. Even hole saw in wood it gets the drills to shut off a lot on overload but the havent died yet ususally I use my big old Metabo 2 speed corded drill for that.
You don't need Hall effect sensors to determine the position of the rotor. With back EMF, you can but not good for low speeds .This is how most drones work
Its probably a "open loop" control circuit. The downside of it is you have no actual "speed control" when the machine is at low RPM, high torque, high current. This type of circuit is perfectly adequate for computer fans and drones but not so much for a grinder or circular saw. Using on a drill is pushing its limitations but its clearly working since the drill is stopping when forced but definetly not ideal since it doesnt use the battery temperature sensor.
Goes to show Chinesium doesn't equal Chinesium. I have been using that cheap Melliff impact driver for many months now and it's one of my favorites by now. But they are built much differently compared to that thing.
I used to get local rando brands because I didn't use enough tools to warrant buying proper brands and then gave them away to 2nd hand shops but I got a fake Makita drill/impact for building a playhouse/fence and really don't feel the need to spend 3x on the drill unless I'm going to actually use the tool daily. The whole ease of batteries and Brushless motors make the value prospect much better these days for DIY/Home owners.
On amazon I bought a drill for 9€ with charger and battery included (we think it was a promotion without being a promotion). It doesn't have a lot of power or accuracy but for the 9€ I don't complain. 😁
What worries me most about these really cheap tools is that I bet that metal chuck cost more than the drill. Don't get me wrong, I love Parkside from Lidl (or Aldi's equivalent), but I wouldn't trust them for more than DIY!
Yeah, even if these are made of mass produced parts made somewhere else, they're usually parts that can be difficult to find as they are parts that service manufacturers and Chinese consumers. I used to buy chinese made air suspension for my mountain bikes until I had one fail, not catastrophically, due to a single plastic wear part the company would not sell me, though even a company like SR Suntour has a spare parts service even if they're considered at the bottom range.
I wonder if the drill will drain the battery below the voltage needed to recharge the battery. With only 2 battery posts best the drill will see is amp and voltage of all cells combined. If a single cell drops below the recharge threshold the drill would have no way to know to shutdown. Maybe Dean has a battery pack he could test with or better yet a friends battery.
Did you see how it immediately broke? It's garbage tier trash. Just scope out some local pawn shops for used, but good stuff. I paid 30 euros 3 years ago for my Bosh GSR 10 something + charger and 2 batteries. It's only 12V and brushed, but for the stuff you mentioned, it's absolutely perfect.

the scrutiny is not on this drill. This like i said is a decent little drill for 30 pounds (minus the chuck). The real scrutiny is on the big brand drills. this what 30 pounds gets you, do the big brands quality live up to their price that can sometimes be 10 times this price.

Great in depth review. One problem with these sort of reviews: you basically telling the manufacturers exactly what they need to do better in order to take over te market. That are such a danger to our great and proven products and should be restricted in exporting this stuff to us I think cus we finance there complete system.
I disagree compleatly. We need companies like these to compeat with big brands. Helping brands like this improve means big brands also have to up thier game to compleat. Otherwise they would have no call to improve and some charge you high prices for inferior products.
This one is perfectly fine for DIY, just dont use it for concrete work😂 If you're ever drilling concrete, bricks or stone I suggest you to buy an SDS drill + normal drill kit from a name brand
Are these kind of knock off tools similar enough to use as spare parts? For housing or broken gears or something. If it isn't replaceable by official brand, could this kind of fakery work? Quick search told me makita housing is just 15€ or so, but still.
"These are great at killing drills" They are great for killing wrists as well. I've spent some hours punching holes with the larger irwin speed bits and let me tell you, one of those on the end of a proper makita going full beans hitting a buried knot absolutely hurts.
Why I use a corded drill with a side handle and a safety clutch in the gearbox for bigger stuff now. The big 2 speed drill I have is much heavier and has a lot more inertia in the rotating mass then a wee cordless drill so just by mass it plows trough a lot more "obstackles" and you barely feel it. And if it really hangs up the safety clutch kicks in.
I've got an AEG drill (I'm in Australia) that sounds just like it too. I bet your Milwaukee and my AEG have the same motor. Milwaukee, AEG, and Ryobi are all owned and built by TTI (they also own Electrolux, Homelite, Hoover, and some others). I wouldn't mind betting many of the parts in those brands are all made in the same factory and are interchangeable. That's very likely where some of the parts for this drill came from. That's probably the controller and motor from a Ryobi/AEG/Milwaukee drill that still works but didn't pass QC. Why bother making a copy when you can just acquire TTI reject parts for next to nothing and use those?
The moment you replace any part on it without producing the appropriate work, it no longer costs 30 pounds-it's more like 60. Ps. Decent? He doesn't even put fresh grease in it. How long has it been since that happened?...
If youre buying this just to drive some bolts in soft wood it may last enough for someone to think its not that bad. But since it doesnt come with a battery, i wouldnt say the price is all that good for the shit tool you get. I bought a chinese screwdriver type drill with a battery and charger included at a local store for 28€ and two years later its still working. Amazing, brand kinway
Don't upset the fan boys 😂 Realistically it wouldn't even cost that. Bosch don't either on some of theirs, it's been the failure on a few of my 12volts.
Thanks Dean for the Great Videos ( New subscriber) Looking for a Trigger for my 1/2 “ inch drive Milwaukee do you Have ? Darren Deisel Mechanic Co. Meath Gun will probably end up paying you a Visit at Some Point Thanks For the Videos.
1. One returned drill would not make a difference for the volumes they sell 2. Why would you want that in te first place? It's actually decent quality and great value for the amount you're paying, even without that chuck
no one using a drill every day for hard use would ever be buying a toy like this. Its a diy cheap knock of. Come on, I didnt think I had to explain that. Even with light use this wouldnt last 5 years, it only cost 30 pounds. What are you expecting.

Are these kind of knock off tools similar enough to use as spare parts? For housing or broken gears or something.
If it isn't replaceable by official brand, could this kind of fakery work?
Quick search told me makita housing is just 15€ or so, but still.
Play with the motor windings and it will get stronger.
I'm sure the 8 year old who put it together is very proud of it, how about getting one of those fake Makita / DeWalt machines in to do a tear down 👍😁
If you squint your eyes "Psogpnone" looks like "Panasonic". No accident.
So all Pingpong need to do is fit it with a proper metal chuck that'll cost 5 more bucks and they have a good product
For 35 pounds, yes. What they could do is get rid of the crappy tool kit and fit a better chuck. That would probably cost them less.
Can you do some dewalt knockoffs to see if any good
"These are great at killing drills" They are great for killing wrists as well. I've spent some hours punching holes with the larger irwin speed bits and let me tell you, one of those on the end of a proper makita going full beans hitting a buried knot absolutely hurts.
You gotta use a drill with side handle for those suckers!
The motor sound like a Milwaukee. Strange.
They bought the bearings from Milwaukee!
I’ll watch this later on once my son goes to bed, also looking forward to seeing how many Milwaukee tools go in the bin 😅
that ones coming soon, still editing it
Well based on this test this drill does preety good for 35€ loolz :P Bought one and well see how she goes :)
Not bad little drill...use for screws only...
LoL @ 2:58 already
Dean i really like your accent man 😁🍻💪
Test some dewalts 😊
I hate the idea of disposable items
Agree 100%, but the thing is the expensive models are also unrepairable
They will last a bit longer, but they go to the landfill, too.
It’s got a metal chuck.
The chuck is made of butter. 😂🤣
The moment you replace any part on it without producing the appropriate work, it no longer costs 30 pounds-it's more like 60.
Ps. Decent? He doesn't even put fresh grease in it. How long has it been since that happened?...
At least the chuck has a red plastic ring like Metabo's and Rohm's😂🤣...ha,ha,ha...rubbish🧐.
£30! What do you want for £30.
A drill without the cost of markup.
Take the P's out of Psogpone and it spells so gone.
🤦♂️👍
Nuf said haha 🍻
I broke it
I think 95 percent of this cheap stuff coming put of China is perfectly suitable for the home DIYr. In thr field, they just won't take the abuse.
Amazing, brand kinway
even a 30 bucks drill has a poted controller, how come Milwacky can't spend another 5 bucks to coat their boards 😂
Don't upset the fan boys 😂
Realistically it wouldn't even cost that. Bosch don't either on some of theirs, it's been the failure on a few of my 12volts.
@@bumpkinrocksLet me guess, water damage?
@@zaxmaxlax yes all for the sake of a few pennies but that's probably the plan 😉

Time to make Amazon eat that one and send you another. The only way this junk changes if it's EXPENSIVE to sell it.
1. One returned drill would not make a difference for the volumes they sell
2. Why would you want that in te first place? It's actually decent quality and great value for the amount you're paying, even without that chuck
@@ooltimu everyone needs to return the junk and no it's junk, the chuck broke by hand.
I recently purchased a $33 "Makita" knockoff brushless impact.... Its an absolute piece of garbage, rips through batteries, impact barely impacts..
Come back in 5 years with every day heavy use and then give a revue of that crap again ( if it still survived the years ) 🙄🙄👎👎
no one using a drill every day for hard use would ever be buying a toy like this. Its a diy cheap knock of. Come on, I didnt think I had to explain that.
Even with light use this wouldnt last 5 years, it only cost 30 pounds. What are you expecting.
