    the state seal is not going anywhere, it'll remain an official symbol. If you're proud of the state you come from, wouldn't you want a nice flag to represent it just as you would the star spangled banner?

    The flag we have now is more representative of Maine's past/culture than this new generic one. Farming and fishing, is the heart of Maine. I'm aware Democrats and future leaders are hell bent on eradicating such trades (see Pennsylvania farm confiscated recently for emanate domain), but that is the heart of Maine. To me, simplifying our flag like that is like erasing our state's past. Your slapping a mere pine tree (very generic btw- compared to the original) and saying that that's all Maine represents, is such a slap in the face. We represent so much more than that. The Maine frontier was about so much more than just a mere settlement, it's more than people can even begin to understand. Mainers, and revolutionary soldiers had to fight to earn/keep their land from Massachusetts proprietors. Jump ahead some 200+ yrs and it would appear we're having to do it all over again. Separate ourselves form outsiders who insist on changing the current dynamic of our state while pushing out our major lucrative industries. Do Mainers even have a say anymore?

      Agree. The current flag depicts everything Maine. Farmer, Fisherman, Moose,
      North Star, and yes, a Pinetree. Same tree that could represent dozens of other
      States. And very similar to flag carried in DC on Jan 6th, and recently raised by
      1of our Scotus's.
      Maine is loaded with folks ready and willing to help others, but not so much
      to stir the pot. If this is to honor Maine's history, leave the flag alone.

      Because there are like 30+ other US State flags with the same exact State Seal, Over the same Blue Background design.
      State Flags should be designed to where they can immediately be singled out when compared to other Flags. You can think of the Texas Flag. You can think of the California flag with the bear on it. You will mistake New York's flag for Maine's Flag.
      State Flags also need to be simple enough for kids to draw them. Kids can ID them then Adults can too.

    Love the pine tree state flag. Nothing lazier than slapping a literal governmental seal onto a flag, it is ugly, generic, hideous, and literally does not represent Maine (unless you think two white men are sufficient to represent Maine). The state flag should be simple, to the point, unique, recognizable, and easy enough that a child can draw it--this is how you create some sort of state pride amongst the younger generations.

    Many non-vexelologists in the comments here. Changing the flag would not change the state seal. Our state would still use the seal, for instance on its letterhead. This is to change the flag to a beautiful simple design that does not break many of the rules of flags. The "1901" flag is a wonderful deaign that deeply represents maine in a way that the seal on a blue field will never encompass. My vote is for the flag switch.

    I don’t have any particular attachment to our current blue flag, but I don’t like the 1901 flag. it’s too simplistic. I like the new Michigan? Minnesota? Flag with the blue quarters and white star, if we did something like that, I’d be happier. 🤷‍♀️

    • @jlm3744
      @jlm3744 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Michigan hasn't changed their flag yet. And that new Minnesota flag is lamer than the old flag with the seal, it would have looked nicer with the 3 stripes white, cyan, and green, but to many people complained that it looked like the Somalian flag, also that lame ass guy Ted Kaye came in an demanded they change it to be more boring because he has a stupid flag rule book. But personally, I actually like that new Maine flag, its unique. The other two recent flag changes that were really good were Mississippi and Utah, those flags look badass. I hope Maine does choose this flag over the current flag. Also, Illinois is also planning on changing their flag too in January.
