  • Aug 10, 2021: The COVID-19 pandemic is taking a new, concerning turn this August as the Delta variant drives up infections across the country. What does a more contagious and harmful variant mean for the planned return to school and offices? How will it affect those who have been vaccinated and those who haven’t yet gotten the shot? Join us TODAY for a virtual conversation with renowned virologist Dr. Paul Offit, Brown School of Public Health Dean Ashish K. Jha, and STAT News’ Helen Branswell on how to understand and adapt to this next phase of the pandemic.

    Imagine where the messaging could have been today if ‘breakthroughs’ had been defined from the start as vaccinated people ending up in the hospital.

    • @terjeoseberg990
      @terjeoseberg990 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Breakthrough has always been people who are sick/symptomatic. PCR tests test for infection, not illness. That’s what Malone, the inventor of the PCR test has been saying for months.
      The problem is, people who don’t sick still become contagious, and people who will get sick are contagious before they get sick.

    • @ytcomms3945

      But ... but ... they are not supposed to end up in hospital ... they are supposed to die quietly in their homes alone ... especially a few weeks after Moderna if they overexerted themselves in a gym.

      What percentage of vaccinated people end up hospitalized? This is your probability i agree that failing to distinguish between asymptomatic infections, mild infections and severe disease among those who are vaccinated has caused problems. These same issues have plagued public health messaging since the beginning of the pandemic.

    The vaccine hesitancy is partly due to lack of long term data on vaccine safety. There are many reports now of women's menstrual cycles being affected. There is no explanation of the mechanism that would cause this, or whether it might affect fertility.

    • @4everyoung24
      @4everyoung24 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      These things occur in the general population-Women have changes in their cycles. Post-menopausal women have bleeding. The question is, is this occurring at a significantly higher rate among the vaccinated than in the general population. This helps evaluate if these things occurred coincidentally after vaccination or because of vaccination.

    • @MsSilver41

      Perhaps the mechanism is that the spike protein doesn’t stay in the shoulder as promised . FOI requests found levels collecting in ovaries , testies, bone marrow , brain. The current vaccines only have a protection of 6 months , fda seems to think boosters every 6 months are ok. That’s a lot of poison to be injected so often

      The complete avoidance of all financial interests of the vax advocates is a major factor in distrust.
      1. NO OPEN EXPERT QUESTIONS WERE EVER ANSWERED! NO open responses to expert questions is not science!!!
      2. The refusal to allow discussion by any of these people of the highest numbers of deaths by these vaccines makes them advertisers at the expense of truth. Scientific process means not blackmailing anyone into your unscientific capital adventures. @@MaximC hey, fair call. If they believe what they say I'm fully prepared to walk back the bad-faith claim (however subjective it may be). It's just the yes-squad mentality that's getting to me. When the writer, Helen got all fantastical at 14:00 my suspicions of bad-faith crept in:
      "I saw it last December when the first results came out of the trials.
      It was like a miracle!
      You know, so many vaccines don't
      don't work out, that to have a vaccine come through for a respiratory pathogen, and it was ninety five percent effective!
      It was like, oh, my God, the gods have smiled on us!
      And then the second vaccine came through and it was ninety four percent.
      And it was like, hallelujah!
      And and that is all still true..."
      And everyone just smiles and nods (meanwhile my girlfriend is housebound after getting the Pfizer vaccine), Then directly after Paul goes on to try and redefine the term break-through case:
      "We have the term breakthrough, I think should be applied
      to people who, despite being fully vaccinated, are nonetheless hospitalized."
      I'm just getting weary of the bubbles everyone is creating. I just want some open discussion of the fors and against. But anywhere I go is all for, or all against. And the censorship of one side is deeply concerning, considering the constant backflips the censors have to do every few months. Just honest open discussion, that's all I'm seeking.

Personally I feel we have to accept that after numbers are low we should still keep wearing masks and not push for a fake success story. Or was knowing numbers would raise and waiting for hospitalizations and death rates to push the story on masking the objective? Not ethical.

    "The Delta Variant" sounds like a cheesy science fiction movie filmed
    decades ago like THE MANHATTAN PROJECT or THE PHILIDELPHIA EXPERIMENT or
    THE CHINA SYNDROME or THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN. Just saying.
