Fun fact. When the tall ships arrived in AUS in the 1700 to begin colonisation, there were tents set up on shore for both the prisoners and non-prisoners to go thru an examination, with a doctor for their fitness to fit into the general population. Not necessarily a slur. All in the delivery. My wog friend referred to herself as such. Aussies labelled everyone on their physical appearance. Everyone's mates had a nickname based on their appearance.
@@DaleRyan-g5r the origin of the word has always been a racial slur. It is our reaction to the word that hs allowed it to be used the way it is today. We choose not to react negatively, instead, we rise above it and show pride in our culture, pride in our heritage, which is why the slur has no effect on us. We take i and we own it, so it holds no power over us. But then again that's part of the true aussie spirit in taking the piss, where we refer to mates as c*nts and c*nts as mates.

WOG- western oriental gentlemen. A term coined as China & Japan opened up to the west & Asian men became westernised. Then it became a derogatory term for anyone who wasn’t British. The old phrase “ wogs begin at Calais”❤
WOG used to stand for Western Oriental Gentleman, so it was kinda a catch all for Western Europeans (think, Italian, Greek, Maltese) and people from what was then termed The Orient (at the time, not now, think Middle East) I’m not sure why east Asia isn’t captured under this heading as I am pretty sure that was also considered ‘The Orient’ at the time.
