    Hi Sibhon
    I like to see how you are using your pencil to express those preliminary lines onto the page. I have always found that going into the drawings with a light hand lends itself to the flow of expression without feeling rushed.
    Seeing you do it seems like a calming effect. 😁

    Thank you for mentioning that you don’t need to have an in-depth knowledge of anatomy to do figure drawing. I almost went down that rabbit hole myself. Though I think it may be helpful to have some understanding of how the bones and muscles fit together, I think it’s more important to be able to draw shapes and shadows. I also like that you teach the idea of using sketchy lines to find the gesture (and maybe even the contours). I hear too many artists these days preaching about “putting down clean lines with confidence.” Maybe some artists can do that effectively, but I need to be a little more exploratory with my pencil 😁

      Ah that's so interesting that you mention the issue around confident lines, I'm currently making a video about that! stay tuned. Thanks for this awesome comment. It's great to get your feedback and to know this is useful. I agree, knowledge of anatomy can help with understanding what your drawing, but it can't improve your actual ability to draw. I feel that comes first - and certainly for gesture drawing there's too much emphasis on anatomy, when that is counter-productive to what you're trying to achieve in a gesture drawing. I get that confident lines might look good, but there's so much that can be said with searching lines - that to me is far more interesting. Hope that makes sense! Thanks again for watching, and for your support ❤

    This is one of the very best tutorials on drawing I have seen. I saved this one for future reference as it reminds me of my formal life drawing courses. I love the simplicity of the way you sketched in this video. It's Classic !

    hello! thank you so much for these videos, I've been watching for over a year and its helped me so much. In future videos is it possible you could include reference photos next to your sketching?

    • @Drawing-Life
      @Drawing-Life  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Robyn, thank you so much! Where possible I try to include the reference image, but there are many reasons why I can't always do that: mostly, I am using New Masters Academy videos as reference and therefore don't have copyright to use their images in my content; secondly I am trying to avoid getting a strike from TH-cam due to the nature of the ref images (ie nudity!!).... However, i do always leave a link to the pose in the description of each video. Hope that helps!! Thanks so much for watching and let me know if you have any questions further :)

    I just LOVE these drawings you make! Like I always have. I could frame them and put them on my wall! Well, I hope one day I can do it with my own drawings 😄. I really love this loose, organic, searching, free, merciful way of drawing. Will further practice this. And I will try the different ways to hold the pencil too, very interesting how you use it.
    I have been quite reluctant of studying the anatomy etc. ”like a proper student”… 😅 I have ordered the book of natural way of drawing that you also recommended, will be interesting.
    Is your sketchbook paper totally smooth? What kind of paper you recommend for this kind of drawings to a sketchbook? (What is that sketchbook?) I have a charcoal pencil and also A2 newspaper, but would be nice to do something that stays and is not too big to use fixative for. And I want to make a daily habit of drawing (have been now for a month or so.)
    Anyway, I truly love your drawings and your videos, thanks so much.

    Thanks for this video, I like the way you hand moves..it is difficult, i find it simple in overhand pencil grip, with extra small pencil..

    Hi Siobhan - What kind of sketchbook is this you’re using? The thin book with the red cover.

      Good question - it's a Moleskin paper back sketch book. I think I bought it in a pack of 3. It's great for portability, and the paper is lovely if you draw with pen or graphite. Not so great for charcoal or wet media.

      Hi Sylvain! I am back! It has been a busy few weeks here and have not been able to focus on work, but back in the flow now!! 😊 I really appreciate your comment here - thank you so much, that's so wonderful to know that this content can support your drawing in some small way. Also, I really love how you phrased that - to have a deeper comprehension of drawing in general is really the key to better drawing!! Amazing insight Sylvain!! Keep drawing and let me know how you get on.

    Hey Siobhan, I'm back. Remember me ? The animation course's guy 😁. Actually I want your permission to use your character that you've used for demos in your 3rd animation course i.e. *'Character Animation: Dialogue'* I wanna use it for my TH-cam videos and my website. Although I will modify it a little, but I don't wanna give you credits!...... 😅 *I'm deeply sorry for that* So, please please please please please please can I use it??? 😥 ?

    • @Drawing-Life
      @Drawing-Life  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Haha, yes I totally remember.... wow, of course you can use the character! I'd love if you did - I made it specifically for the course, so i have no proprietary notions about it :) I'd love to see your YT vids, drop me a link or send me a message in the course if you can. Thanks so much for asking by the way, and good luck with your work, can't wait to see it 😊👍

    Try "The Quick Pose" by Erin Meads. Sometimes it's hard for me to distinguish where the two of you left off.
    Timely video as I just lost my home workspace to a major plumbing leak…fortunately I suffered no material loss. It will be sketchbooks only for the near future ; ]

    • @Drawing-Life

      Oh no!! that's awful. Workspace, or studio space is crucial, but maybe a period using a sketchbook as your workspace will yield exciting work that you would otherwise not have had the chance to make!! i hope so ! Thanks for watching btw ❤
