  • As part of the the inaugural AIDC's DocWeek the NFSA presented films from the Film Australia Collection.
The opening film was Festival In Adelaide, a record of the the 1962 Adelaide Festival of the Arts. Thousands of visitors flock to Adelaide during the two-week period of the Festival. Sir Malcolm Sargent and the London Philharmonic Orchestra open the programme; Zoe Caldwell stars in St. Joan; the Manhuins give chamber concerts; there is an exhibition of Australian painting, and a production of La Traviata. Outdoor shows include jazz performances and a floating ballet on the lake. Also featured is the late Dave Brubeck the great jazz pianist who died last December and is seen here giving instructions on swing.
Festival In Adelaide. 1962. Directed by Malcolm Otton, Loch Townsend, Richard Mason, Ian Dunlop. Produced by Stanley Hawes, Maslyn Williams, Frank Bagnall. Festival In Adelaide is one of the great productions from the film units from the Stanley Hawes period.

Shame they couldn't have found a better piano for Dave Brubeck. He still makes it sound good though! :)

+David Greenwell I wonder what he thought of it? He'd probably played worse.
