The Market Update Desk July 11th - Consumer inflation shows as shelter costs finally trend downward

The Market Update Desk July 11th
- CPI inflation readings gave us an unexpected slowdown in both headline and Core numbers.
- headline shows a DECREASE -.1% , Core comes in +.10 vs expected +.2%
- Year over Year headline falls to 3%
- The much anticipated slowdown in shelter costs (rent renewals) finally is showing up. Shelter slows to +.2% and year over year now +5.2%.
- Motor vehicle Insurance still shows higher, by +.9%
- Airline tickets come in at -5%
- the slowdown in airline tickets and shelter away from home (hotel costs) is more evidence the economy is slowing
- possible rate cut in July meeting ????? likely not but high odds for September
- 10 year bond auction was very well received.
- tomorrow we get wholesale inflation numbers (PPI)
