  • I just picked up a new machine, a lovely 2018 Kawasaki Z900rs. I love the retro styling and the performance of this machine and it reminds me a lot of my Kawasaki ZRX1200, I've only had it for a few days but I thought it would be nice to share my initial thoughts with everyone on the machine.

I have this bike, 2018 z900rs in "Rootbeer" - love the bike very much! Mods I have include: 15 tooth front sprocket, Ivan's ECU Flash, Corbin Seat, OEM center stand, Garmin GPS, and OEM frame sliders. I also have a Akra Header that I havent yet installed. Im 54 years old - this bike is very comfortable and plenty fast for me!

I put akrapovic headers on my 2019 green Cafe (kept the stock muffler.) I remember one of the bolts to remove the catalytic converter was tricky to get to. I had to use two swivel-extensions on the ratchet to reach the bolt. And there's an O2 sensor to deal with. I cut it off and tucked the wire away into the frame, though I can't recall if that's what the instructions officially said to do with it!

I never expected to see this bike on your channel! I bought the green cafe version in 2019 and still have it. I eventually did suspension and exhaust/ecu/airbox mods for the fun of it. You can get about 15+ more Horsepower with the engine mods *according to dynos from the tuners. I kept the midrange powerband in my tune.

Kickass bike! Never seen one of those but now I want one, and I dig the root beer bass-boat sparkle. Just the look of it screams fun.

Hey Tony...it is cool to see your review road bikes a little. I bought a green '78 KZ 400 just two weeks out of high school and have ridden either road or MX bikes for 40 years now, mostly off-road over these last 20 years. I am now back on an ADV bike here in the Rockies and simply love motorcycling for the whole freedom deal, that thing that will take us to new adventures. Keep up the great work.....oh, and an idea for your MX Classic Steel series....the 2003/2004 KTM 200 SX.

I really appreciate your videos and I love all types of bikes too. Would you consider doing a video on the History of the Kawasaki KLR650? I think many people would enjoy one of your awesome videos on the KLR!

Nice. The way the guages bounce, I take it it's fuel injected?
Thanks for posting this. I'll definitely be sharing with some people.
Sorry about the loss of your ZRX. Those bikes are so dang cool. Hopefully this one fills that void with plenty of enjoyment for you.

Very nice, Tony! You and I seem to have very similar taste in bikes. I loved that Z900 when it came out, especially in that color combo. Almost bought one but reigned myself in. lol. I've also owned a couple ZRX1200s, one of which I bought new in 2005. Had a Yamaha Warrior as well, absolute torque monster. Now on a 2006 Sportster 883. Actually a nice riding motorcycle. Unfortunately, not much happens when you twist the loud handle. lol. I'll be fixing that issue soon, though. Enjoy that Z! Beautiful bike! --Bruce

Thanks Bruce, it does sound like we have similar taste in bikes. I wanted to buy an 883 about 20 years ago but I never ended up getting one. Enjoy the ride!

Do you still have the cat installed? It was had to see in the video. On the stock exhaust all the sound muffling is done within the cat. If someone put the akro muffler on top of the cat then you have like two sound mufflers. Either go back to the original stock can, which is basically a straight pipe, or get an akro header and remove the cat.
Watched again and it looks like the cat is still installed, you have to get rid of that exhaust restriction. No wonder why you weren’t impressed by the performance and sound. Stock can, cat, header are specifically sound tuned by kawa and it sounds great. It wasn’t the right thing to Akro can on without other mods.

Yes I think you’re right I believe it still has the stock headers on there. It was already on there when I bought it however I didn’t do any of the mods to the bike perhaps I’ll get the headers in the future.
