That area was originally planned to be a waterfront community back in the 60's! My uncle dug a lot of those canals and lakes! I've fished in most of them! Lots of bass and snook in them back in the 80's and 90's.

Probably one of the few sites left in Florida for good star gazing/astronomy

Thanks for your review and taking us along. As a born Floridian myself (Sarasota) , I was taken away at a young age to PA. I'm an Army brat. Gotta tell you, I'm not missing FL during the summer. It's a nice place to visit but it's too crowded for me. Some of my family is still there.

Down the road at Monument Lake CG there is no electric but excellent Verizon coverage and internet due to tower right by CG. During the winter every site is filled at both campgrounds. We like Monument Lake better-better views, less manicured and we always used a generator.

Thanks for the review. Now I want to go there!! We'll be down from Chicago the week between Christmas and New Years camping at Grayton Beach State Park. Pretty excited

Loved your video Joe & Rachael! I did want to add military, (active or retired) can go to National Parks for free, (not sure about camping though, it's probably the usual fees). We were given an annual pass and enjoyed the Everglades a lot earlier this year well staying in the upper keys for 3 months. Highly recommend going if you enjoy seeing wildlife, we love it there. Just remember to pack a cooler with food & water, we found that out the hard way the first time we went! LOL!

Great video, but I had to look up Midway campground as the roads and campground didn't look familiar. Too well developed! If you want really rustic and away from everything go to the Park entrance further south. The road that stretches between Florida City and Flamingo! Two seasonally open campgrounds (Long Pine Key - no electric at any of the 108 sites) at the second turnoff on the only road, and Flamingo campground (limited electric 41 of RV 65 sites nor the additional 200 tent only sites) at the end. Both have dump station, bath houses and potable water fill. When wife and her sister took a cruise to the Bahamas, I got the better deal, road biking (non-electric) the park and then down to the Keys before returning to pick them up. Had Sprint at the time, asking rangers about cell service since biking solo...they laughed. Anybody visiting the Park, turnoff 1 is a must for an easy nature walk and gators galore, including 3' directly below you on the over water trail. Amenities? There is nothing between the Welcome Station and Flamingo (sparce/limited services) with most back toward civilization on US1 at Homestead and Florida City.

What’s nice about our Mofi WiFi as we drive through the Everglades and our cell single drops.. our Mofi picks kicks in while driving. We understand StarLink has a system that as you’re in movement works as well but we only paid for our Mofi $400. and our SIM card cost $35 a month and when not using we can have it turned off... Thank You For This Great Video

Wow, coming to Texas. Don't know how far you are coming into Texas but we have 284 acres with full hookups for free.

Still love the campsite review format. Haven't been able to get more than a night or two in a FL park in a while though which makes a trip from VA near impossible. But we are using our Harvest Host more to fill the gaps.

We have seen a panther cross with her cub at Midway. Not a place to let your kids loose.

Rachel, consider raising the seat on your bike. It may be too low. Raising the seat may help you pedal better and may be more gentle on your bum. 😉
