He sounded more like 599. he was blasting in.. I had the HW 9 and all the accessories, I had a QSO with a ham in the Amsterdam Netherlands, I should have kept the radio but I wanted a 100 water and needed the money. nice video and excellent fist.
Steve, love the video and the gear to die for, when a Brits tells you the summer has been rotten !!! Whats new, the wx in the UK is always the same...HI Love the keyer your using, subscribed to your channel having just found you, thanks man. Hope to work you from here in France when i get round to putting up some wire as the wife told me the 2 ele yagi for 40 and Quads are staying in the garage !!!! so back to wire antennas then !!!
You will love the HW-9 if you can score one. They are MILES better than the HW-7 and HW-8. But there are also some wonderful QRP kits out there as well.
i have heard that these radios were a BIG improvement over the hw-8.....and offered the warc bands and 10mtrs......my first rig was a heath dx-40/knight vfo and a s-53A receiver....then my parents got me a hw-8 kit in 1980.....worked lotsa stateside and some dx with it.....even finished a contest once at a buddy's house when his rig went screwy.....you can get close to 80-100 watts with an hw-8 and a sb-220....and a footswitch.......it had 20m (the hw-8)...he chkd it 4 me cuz i was a novice....
I have a HW-9 and Wilderness Sierra, both hot rigs. I have 129 DXCC contacts between them. I do have a UN-built HW-9 I may build this winter. Good video and good audio level. Best Luck es DX de WA8QFE.
getting back into qrp again myself.....have a K1 now......smokin' lil rig......the receiver is TITS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just as good as my ts-440 w/filters.......my buddy said it sounded "DAMN CLEAN" on 40CW....think i will run qrp/1A MT fer ARRL FD 2013.....maybe 2A MT and solar.....a ham radio chum has a bitchin' K2....sure would like to talk him into bringin his bad ass trailer w/ solar panels/inverters and we'd try a 2A/QRP MT entry.....he's a smokin dude....full of info...AB5ZA/7

Happy New Year, see you soon.
I never lost my love for my HW8, memories of 1st qrp qso, nostalgia and all that. But the HW9 was far better. Regrettably never owned one.

Never have yet, in fact have a partial build I bought recently.
Just stopped bidding on a un-built HW-8 on Ebay after it passed $800.00.

I have been looking for unbuilt HW-9 PC boards and WARC kit PCBs to have professionally scanned (creating Gerber files).
