I am from Assam. In my home I used to pay Rs 350-400 per month as electricity bill but now after installing smart meter I have to do a monthly recharge of ₹600-700. And everyone around me also says that their bill amount has increased drastically. But no protest was made!
Increasing bill amount reason is low power factor you can check your power factor in your generated bill if it's lower than 0.99 then yes it's low power factor reason behind high bill... Faced same problem and got solution called "Capacitor bank". By tata power delhi.
The name of capacitor called:- power factor correction capacitor

On 26 may the temperature was highest, so we used fans to ease off, the electricity consumption for the day was 3.1 unit
27 may, relatively cold temperature, so no fan was used. 4.9 unit was consumed that day, which is vague

It's true ,in Bihar it's been installed 2 years ago and our bill has increased 50% in price with same consumption ,one day some problem happened in meter we have to pay to electricity person 2k just to visit and see the meter problem,it's a government funded loot central and local both are beneficiary

I'm from bihar sir, one big issue is that meter charge ₹600 /month and energy charge alag se. Pahle mai ₹700 ka recharge karwata tha per ab ₹1300-₹1500 ka recharge karwata hu. Company ₹20 per day charge karti h. Sath hi demand unit se jyada unit per ₹1000 fine leti h.

The procedure of deposits for services is used all over the world.
Not true people do close connections. When people sell their house they close connection and are refunded all the money. I got all the money back.

in India they are charging 12 to 16 inr per unit which is equivalent to electricity charges in USA but the salaries and wages are equal to underdeveloped countries. Government needs to ensure that the wages and salaries per year are above 50 lakh if the prices of goods and services are being raised equal to the prices in developed countries

Very First thing - consumer should be given a free choice of either prepaid or postpaid .
Secondly - it should be established in front of consumers , beyond any doubt that the earlier digital meters and the new smart meters were recording the energy consumption in a totally fair manner . [ the average consumption in both cases should be almost same. ]
I am sure that the above two steps if conducted in a proper manner , people will stop protesting .

They are charging more in pick hours (During night more people uses ac etc). Dynamic pricing policy is applied in smart meter only.
If every half hour meter reading is provided, then we can calculate total units consumption and applicable charges.

In May I applied for a new connection...then I calculated my consumption and the net meter reading shows 48 units more than the real consumption.( I use a meter that is installed after the smart meter that calculates input electricity that come from smart meter)

Here in UP, meters are smart but they are postpaid.

भाई ये सब्सिडी नही देते है। Rural area me 50-100 यूनिट pe 3.33 Rs काटता है। और सब्सिडी भी ना के बराबर मिलता है। सिर्फ बिल में शो करता है पर देता ना है। Old meter me ek bar me subsidy pure bill पर मिलता था । जिससे बिल लगभग 3 रुपए यूनिट मिलता था। मैने कंपेयर किया तो नए मीटर के बिलिंग में लगभग 200 से 300 rs jyada बिल आ रहा है।

In Jharkhand (Ranchi), scenario is much worse.
Here smart meters work's similar as traditional meters. Nothing is prepaid and without any smart features. The distribution company here is JBVNL. They have hired agencies to take the meter readings and generate Bill monthly.
Earlier we used to get a Bill of 1400/- to 1500/- in Summer and 800/- to 900/- In winter.
Now average monthly Billing is not less than 2500/- to 3000/- and sometimes 5000/- to 6000/-. Anyway you have to pay the amount otherwise they will levy a fine or disconnect the line.
If you complain about high billing, they very next month you will get nearly half an amount bill. How this is possible? You won't find a logical explanation.
Corruption here is at it's peak. Here the State Government is of INDI Alliance. Distribution company is State owned.
Everywhere its charges more then the actual and additional installation charges every month and increase unit charge after some unit rate should be same for each unit

Ham to gaanv me rahte hai, hamne badh chadh kar meter lagwa liya. Ab bina check kiye hi bill bhej dete hai 35-40K per month ka. Itane beiman hai, city me hamara ghar hai AC etc sab hai 5k se jyada kabhi nhi aaya, aur ganv me 12-15hr low voltage bijli aayegi aur bill aayega aasmani. Jabki solar bhi laga hua hai. 😅

I am from Hyderabad, smart meters were installed long ago and we have not faced any problems, it has made convenient for the people who take meter reading because the reading is transmitted through infrared communication to the POS machine and the bill is printed immediately.
It is digital meter, not smart.

बिजली bale ko घर l का लोड के हिसाब से सही kw सेट कर देना चाहिए की ओवरलोड fine ना लगे।इससे बिजली बिल सही आएगा।।
सबकुछ साफ साफ बता देना चाहिए की मीटर का किराया कितना है तो जनता जागरूक रहेगी।।की इसके बाद जो लोड रहेगा उसके हिसाब से बिल आएगा।
Electricity is a basic need of the people and advancement is good but the rules should not be made so strict that poor can't afford laws should be made keeping all the sections of society in mind

I used to get 600-800 bill before installation of smart meter, but after smart meter bill is 1500-2000. congratulation once again common people exploited successfully.

I am from Odisha my smart metre charge more than previous electricity bill very pathetic for me
Bihar me 2-3 year se prepaid meter hai , it is good I can see my daily electricity consumption, charges and balance.when balance become negative then light cut automatically
Same phale bohot kamm aata tha its around 700-800 but now it will come around 2500-2700

very easy to give confidence to people. just both old and new meters in parallel in few houses, and at end of month check the reading of both meters.

The revenue generated is also more. So obviously the government both centre and state will be more interested in smart meters. Here in Kolkata they've also installed smart meters.
disruption in Smart meter is caused due to overloading the power is cut for 30 mintues cycle for demand more than 20% of demand allocated
in bihar we are using smart meter and this is very good because we can track our daily use and load in the app ,
