    After watching this here’s my advice. Join some of the online Mavic forums to help troubleshoot. A lot less trouble than DJI help desk.

    I also have spotty experiences with active track. I do know however that when expecting to experience obstructions the follow me mode can do a better job since it is more dependant on GPS. It does not do as well at centering the subject in the frame.

    Russ,
    Being new to drones and as a retired college prof, I greatly appreciate your DETAILED THOUGHTS! I always want to know WHY?
    Many thanks

    Thank you for the time and effort you put into this video. When talking with Tech Support you mentioned that you were located right at 5 miles from a small airport. I have 33 acres and half of my property is in just in a small airport circle and the other half is beyond that. :-)

    Mavic Pro owner here. Just wanted to let you know that I enjoy your videos. I pretty much have had the same experience as you with the active track mode. So this video was very helpful. Going to try the compass calibration as soon as I get some good weather here in Smyrna, DE. I will let you know if it works for me. Thank you. Keep up the good work.

    Great video, glad you went through the pain with customer support and not me :) I have found active track works ok if the speed is steady and subject increases steadily but if you change direction or speed quickly It loses track, but I think thats to be expected really.

    Hi, great video..I too, am not comfortable with the 65MPH. Maybe with a 35MPH tail wind..
    Other than that, did you consider the placement of the remote control in relation to the Mavic?
    Was it on the seat of the truck, on the dash, on the roof or in the bed? All that metal will effect the ability of the controller to send/receive from the aircraft.
    Just a thought..
    Tom

    • @51Drones
      @51Drones  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe he was stating Km/h rather than MPH. The controller was on the seat. I believe the biggest issue was the trees.

    no that was not a good situation but I bought it it's Sam a month ago and they were kind enough to take it and replace it with another one off the shelf hopefully this one works a little better than the first other than that it has been a great

    THANK you so much for your comprehensive evaluation of accutrack. As much as I love my mavic I'm starting to really lose faith in it. Not only only in it's smart features but in the overall workmanship and quality of it. I feel like it's an unfinished product. Things seem to be fine at one point and a month later they're not so fine. CAMERA works perfectly for 30 days and in the next 30 days Jell-O. Lol. I'm starting to lose faith in the product and very close to just waiting for mavic 2 to come out. I'm sorry but for the price that they sell this product for it should work the way it's supposed to, or at the very least the camera should record proper video and take proper photos without any problems. WITH that being said, for now I'll keep flying my mavic in hopes that an update will fix some of these bugs and not add more like the last update did. 4.0.7 Ugh. SORRY for rambling on. I'll stop now before I get into the customer service. Lol lol omg Just SAD.
    Michael

    • @51Drones
      @51Drones  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      LOL! Yes, I am always optimistic in updates. Let's hope some of the bugs continue to get worked out. I'll try to keep in mind that in the big picture, the Mavic is not very old, so hopefully some of these things get worked out.

    65mph! Maybe if you had a 50 mph tail wind on a nice warm day going down hill.

  • @BobBy-ft6dx
    @BobBy-ft6dx 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've just watched this. I would've like to see at the end of the video, if by doing the compass calibration first, a test in the same/similar conditions.
    I'm not an owner but I am ingesting as much info before purchasing.

  • @muf722

    Could it be that the 65MPH is in fact 65KPH (=40MPH). I believe DJI has made a MPH/KPH mistake before in the GO App

      I don't think he said that it will fly 65m/hr "active tracking," though that was the subject. I think he meant under certain conditions it will fly 65,

    • @antonoosthuizen228
      @antonoosthuizen228 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      When the software is "hacked" it will fly at 85km/h. The angle of attack changes dramatically. 50 Miles per hour, give or take.

    That just happened yesterday: I wanted the Mavic Pro to follow me making a big U-Turn (partially under some tries) on my bike in spotlight mode - it was relatively dark (forest 1 hr before sunset).
    1. First part worked great then without any obvious hurdle it lost me and beeped.
    2. So I stopped and quickly indicated the subject (i.e. me) and said "go".
    3. Then it followed me (obviously in Track-mode not Spotlight!!!) which is hell of a danger in a forest and luckily it lost me again before it would have crashed into some branches (maybe 2ft left!!). Really freaking.
    So lesson learnt: always double check that Spotlight mode is on after it lost you!!!!!
    Correct or did I something wrong???

    • @51Drones
      @51Drones  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It sounds like you did it correctly. I do not believe it is supposed to drop out of Spotlight mode until you tell it to. I will do some more research and get back to you!

    Been thru that painfully, I'm both a whistle blower on gaslighters in gov and a professional tech for these type of electronics. I assume with confidence they knew the 2 follow modes were largely broken and after I bought 6 new devices that were suppose to work with "follow me", I understood they were just gaslighting reasons for failure "operator error". Don't fall for the advertisments that this drone tracks anything with confidence.

    Hey it's me again and I have a question, other than convenience and portability which drone is better with a better camera and a sharper more colorful and focused imaged, the phantom 4 or the mavic pro!?

    • @51Drones
      @51Drones  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hussein Khalil Colorful and focused image depends on how skilled you are. Better camera? Considering "better" as a bit of a subjective term, I would say the Phantom 4 Pro.

    • @husseinkhalil4225
      @husseinkhalil4225 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      51 Drones which drone has the best RAW footage the phantom 4 (regular) or the mavic?

    • @51Drones
      @51Drones  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hussein Khalil I would say the Phantom, but if you want a for sure answer, I would ask Ed Ricker from Ed Ricker Vlogs. He has both of them.

    I used it with my 4-wheeler. It would lose connection if I turned to sharp or to fast. I need to play with it more. My fastest speed with the wind pushing me is 43.5 mph ( not in Active track) can't see it going 65 if it did I don't think it would be able to get back to me.

    • @51Drones
      @51Drones  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Billy Gillentine 43.5 is good! I would be very surprised if it went faster than that.

    Your profile mode messed up because it was designed to recognize "profiles" from the side and not from overhead. In all, it looks like the algorithms did what they were designed to do....

    • @51Drones
      @51Drones  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Understood, however I still question why the Mavic stood still as I drove away in trace mode, and lost signal with no obstructions. No one has been able to explain that.

    He should have said 65mph if with a tailwind push of 25mph. who then would be flying their MP in 25mph winds? If I just had to test this, which I don't, I would fly only with the wind flow and have someone further up the way to be there when it landed. I would not try to fly it back to me lol.

    • @51Drones
      @51Drones  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I did confirm. He was referring to 65kmh, not mph.
